Putting here for traffic.

what do you drive as a family car?
What do you really love/not love about it and why?

Im looking for a new family car and just not sure what to get. Budget is not fixed massively although it won’t be newer than about 2018.

Volvo V60, not huge but we seem to manage.

Same here. It's a smooth drive, plenty off boot space and you can genuinely get three adults on the back seat. And it's only £20 for tax.

Is the middle seat comfy enough? I've been put of cars without a proper middle seat as I have three growing boys.

Volvo V60 love it.
@Jaybird43 same with ours. It makes me laugh if I'm going spot on 70 and see people fly by and slam on the brakes because they think we're the cops. Especially if DH is driving back from work in a high vis. We have black windows too so you can't see the kids.

@Pinetreesfall @Jaybird43 Yes, same here as well in another V60!! I thought I was just imagining it but as you say, I have had cars come speeding up in the outside lane, then suddenly seem to slow down and either crawl past or pull in behind.
Ours is dark blue so I'm not really sure why ppl think it's a police car. I don't even think the police use them round here, it mostly seems to be BMWs or Skodas.

But anyway, it's a great car. Good amount of space without feeling like you're driving a bus and the seats are super comfy.

Volvo XC60. Spends six months of the year driving in snow and ice. We regularly do a 1,000 mile round trip in complete comfort. The safety features are reassuring too, especially with lots of big wildlife around.

This thread made me really think about my car, and I realised as I was posting, how much I had loved my Grand Scenic, and how much I actually hated the Mini.

Had a scary encounter with the Mini losing power a couple of weeks ago, so the perfect excuse to get rid. I'm absolutely thrilled to have a Scenic again. Not the Grand this time, decided I didn't need the occasional 7 seats after all, but a good compromise in size between that and the Mini. Bonus is that it's £20 a year in tax.

It's like driving whilst sat on my sofa. So comfortable, higher than you'd think and a huge windscreen so great visibility, and decent spec inside (sat nav, bluetooth music etc). My old Scenic had it all too, so so lovely to be reunited with it all.

Cheers Mumsnet!

Yes, we used to have the child seat in the middle and two full sized adults either side. Mind you, growing boys do often have a tendency to take up more room than the actually physically occupy, I know!

I drive a 2012 Ford Focus on a daily basis. I love it and do 20k miles a year in it. It's racking up the miles now, though, so I'm looking to replace with a slightly younger Focus later this year.

I also have a 1987 Ford Sierra which is my first love; comes out at weekends and occasionally in the week. Puts a big smile on my face driving that. 😊
