The co ap cat. Aubi to complain

At my local co-op in the village where I live half of the time that I go in I go in there is a random cat walking around the aisles.
I have asked staff about this before but All they have really said is that it is the local cat and it is always in and out of the few little shops there.

I am definitely not a cat lover and I don't really like the thought of the cat walking around the food shop.
Aubi to complain or should I just let it go and drive further out to a different store if it bothers me.

Local hospital has a cat that likes to visit! It makes me smile. I don't think there's a hygiene issue, cats aren't interested in fruit and veg or things in packaging in my experience. I suspect it overall makes more people shop there then avoid it!

Not Addenbrookes by any chance?... and ginger?

If so, he's nearly always there (in the public areas, not wards!) and most people love him. My only complaint is that I've never managed to find him whenever I've been there.

There also used to be a lovely grey cat called Gracie (sadly no longer with us) who used to frequent several shops in the Braintree Outlet Centre.

I can't say I've ever felt repulsed or concerned by seeing any animal in shops etc., including food shops but have definitely been disgusted by the antics of quite a few humans!

@Minikievs I think it is the same village! 🤣 He goes in there too! And the sunbed shop

The petrol station tanning shop? 🤣

waves to local Mumsnetter

I've only ever seen him in the top coop, but it sounds like he certainly does get around then!

I like cats but just like having dogs in shops it is not sanitary.

I wouldn't want to eat a croissant that a cat has walked over.

I don’t think the cats are able to lift the plastic lids in the bakery department.

You crucial mistake is thinking that shops are sanitary in the first place. Most shops, like any place with high foot traffic and the potential for food and drink spills, are very dirty. The good thing news is that the vast majority of the time this will have absolutely zero effect on you.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 14/01/2023 15:38

We have an Asda cat who is a bit of a local celebrity.

It wouldn’t bother me at all.

Pixiedust1234 · 14/01/2023 15:38

Out of interest how would you feel if someone took their dog in to the shop? Would you be as bothered or think its a non issue. Trying to work out if you just hate cats in general or you feel its to do with hygiene .

Snackpolice · 14/01/2023 15:38

I wouldn’t be dying about a rogue snake or a herd of cockroaches in there but a cat or even a snoozy dog in a store is quite soothing. I’d personally rather a dog but either animal is definitely cleaner than most humans 🤣

Why would a dog or a cat walk over your croissant? People and shops are not sanitary anyway.

whirlyhead · 14/01/2023 15:40

I have been known to share a croissant with my cats. Amazingly I am still alive. My cats walk all over my kitchen counter tops and me and my partner have the best immune systems of anyone I known.

there are probably rats, mice and children in that store too. All of which are way more germ ridden.

Tinktravels · 14/01/2023 15:40

Seems to be a much more of a common thing than I had thought!

Yeah, any self respecting cat would be heading straight for the fish counter, not the bakery!

HelloVeritas · 14/01/2023 15:43

I think this might be in Swindon, if so, his name is Bob.

He's a local celebrity, has his own FB page I think and clearly does whatever the fuck he wants.

Bonjovispyjamas · 14/01/2023 15:44

I'm so jealous. Wish I had a supermarket near me with a cat visitor, I would definitely make an effort to go there. Cats are very clean animals, unlike kids who pick their noses, then touch things 🤢 You should be more bothered about that?

uhtredbebbanburg · 14/01/2023 15:44

Ah man. I’m jealous of all these people who have a supermarket cat. No cats in the supermarkets near me and shopping is boring!

Tinktravels · 14/01/2023 15:45

@HelloVeritas not Swindon!

@Minikievs is definitely the same village! 🤣
I won't stop using the post office in there though as the ladies are so lovely!

Go to a different shop if it bothers you.

This 100%. Ridiculous to complain.

Viviennemary · 14/01/2023 15:50

Probably there because they've got mice.

MissMogwai · 14/01/2023 15:50

Bloody hell, it's not a lion ffs!

Sparklingbrook · 14/01/2023 15:51

I am very envious of all you people with supermarket cats. I would love that.
More than dogs in John Lewis which have to be carried on the escalators. 😂

MadCatandBirdLady · 14/01/2023 15:51

Honestly the cat is the least of your worries about the food . It’s picked transported and handled many times before you get it. I like cats so it wouldn’t bother me. If you have a cat allergy I understand but cats are everywhere. Not usually in a shop though

Sparklingbrook · 14/01/2023 15:53

Sparklingcat has a covered litter tray and we always knew before Katkin if she’d had a poo 🤢 but now we have to peer through the door.

TheShellBeach · 14/01/2023 15:53

Tinktravels · 14/01/2023 14:41

@SirCumference to be honest I doubt it's going to do anything to the food but I just really hate the thought of it .
I don't personally have allergies but a lot of people do!

Maybe I am just a cat hater.

There is uncovered fruit in store yes

Wow. Uncovered fruit.

Be very careful, OP, because everyone knows that cats love fruit.

TerrysNeapolitan · 14/01/2023 15:53

We had a beautiful cat that frequented our local Co-Op - his owner moved away every misses him.

Sorry wrong thread. It’s about cat food in Litter Tray topic though! 😂
