The co ap cat. Aubi to complain

At my local co-op in the village where I live half of the time that I go in I go in there is a random cat walking around the aisles.
I have asked staff about this before but All they have really said is that it is the local cat and it is always in and out of the few little shops there.

I am definitely not a cat lover and I don't really like the thought of the cat walking around the food shop.
Aubi to complain or should I just let it go and drive further out to a different store if it bothers me.

I would rather have a cat in the shop than mice tbh.

Gemmanorthdevon · 14/01/2023 14:58

You should see what humans do, and then walk around a food shop! Animals are far cleaner than some of us!

Yep you just a cat hater!

OneTC · 14/01/2023 14:58

I'd be wondering why the cat was so intent on being in a co-op 🐀

Ok maybe I am being unreasonable as my problem is I just don't like it.

But what about people with allergies?

People are allergic to all sorts of things. You can't ban everything from public spaces just because someone might be allergic.

And?

People are allergic to milk, eggs, peanuts....oh,wait!!

The co-op likely stocks those too

WetBandits · 14/01/2023 14:58

Don’t you normally wash fruit and veg before you eat it anyway? Confused

I’d probably go out of my way to visit this shop just to see the cat!

BunchHarman · 14/01/2023 14:58

I don’t know you, but I know that if I met you, we would not be friends.

Long Live Co-op Cat!

Or America. Bodega (corner shop) cats are a whole thing there.

Lots of bookstores here have cats as well. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. Cats are cleaner than most people and keep down the vermin.

harrassedmumto3 · 14/01/2023 14:59

Oh, that reminds me. Where I live, and in the very same shop, there's a man (I think he may be homeless) whose ancient and very needy Staffie joins him on his shopping trips Grin
I always love seeing them and wish that my dog was as well behaved.
Our local Co-op is very much part of the community. They often donate food to the local school etc. So I think they're probably more tolerant and less stringent than the supermarket chains!

Mummieslncorporated · 14/01/2023 14:59

I'm allergic to cats. It wouldn't bother me.

Tbf though, I am mildly allergic, so as long as I'm not petting the cat I would be fine.

Talapia · 14/01/2023 15:00

It wouldn't bother me. When you think of how much fruit and veg are handled, they are probably covered in microscopic shit and bogies.

Give uncovered fruit and veg a wash.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 14/01/2023 15:00

It would make me actively shop there.

Megifer · 14/01/2023 15:00

Tinktravels · 14/01/2023 14:48

Maybe Iabu then as it doesn't seem to bother others. I'll make the trip to the little Tesco about further out in future as I know it's a me issue really.

I just think about the fact that it's probably outside killing birds of vermin and then strolling around a food shop!

Definitely don't think about all the little kids who scratch their germ infested bums and then fondle all the food stuff then.

Or people who have stood in dog crap and walked it on the floors.

Or people sneezing all over the bananas....all those little droplets of sputum....

I think as long as the cat brings it's own bags it should be OK.

SpentDandelion · 14/01/2023 15:05

You sound a complete misery, cats are only drawn to kind emphatic people so l doubt it would be interested in you. Some cats love company, leave it be.

unclebuck · 14/01/2023 15:08

Where do you think the fruit grows? And the veg? Outside where animals are? British people have deeply weird attitudes to food and animals!

Tinktravels · 14/01/2023 15:10

@BunchHarman what has me being a teacher got to do with me not liking cats?

You win the thread! Best post yet.

mrsbyers · 14/01/2023 15:13

Are you in Northumberland ? We have a similar situation in our local coop - they do try to get her out but she’s very clever at dodging in when people open the doors

This thread is hilarious 😂 OP you realise human beings are covered in dirt and bacteria? The cat is probably cleaner than you...

Cait33 · 14/01/2023 15:14

I'd be more worried about the people in the shop OP. I'm a people-hater but pretty sure that doesn't mean I can ask my local supermarket to ban them all.... 😂
