To Feel Sad About Lisa Marie Presley?

JustForABitofFun · 13/01/2023 00:48

The newspapers are reporting that she has been rushed to hospital after being found unresponsive at home and having suffered a possible heart attack.

This makes me feel so sad. She has had a tough life with the suicide of her son a few years ago!

Very sad, especially after her son dying. Total sympathy to her daughters and Pricsilla.

Rubyupbeat · 13/01/2023 07:35

She did a lot of charity work, not from afar, but using her own money, she had apartment blocks built for the homeless and schemes to get people back on their feet again, apparently this is what her father started.

She was 9 years old and in the house when her dad died suddenly and traumatically. Her son killed himself. I'd say that's pretty tough regardless of wealth.

Rip Lisa Marie 😞

She was 9 when her father died and despite what many here seems to think she was not left a fortune. Elvis was not rich he had spent most of it. Priscilla and the custodians of Graceland turned this around and successfully too.

I feel for her family.

Very sorry to hear this. I think it's best to ignore the comments about her wealth somehow negating the tragedy in her life. Some people on this forum are just cold from the inside out.

It's a bit of a derail but I'm getting so disappointed and disillusioned with MN. I used to love it but now it feels like there are vile people waiting to jump on every thread with just nastiness. There are still some great boards where it is just like a workplace chat (I like telly addicts and style and beauty for these) Some threads I've been on or started have just immediately had people assuming the worst, being overtly didactic or downright aggressive. I miss the nice chats on here.

As for Lisa Marie , it is very sad. The family have had so much tragedy. Having had a lot of loss myself, I find certain higher profile deaths seem to affect me but it's always a bit random which ones it will be

BirchOak · 13/01/2023 07:43

If ever there was an example of how money and fame don’t equal happiness, it’s here. In fact, in her case, the fame as a young person was a terrible burden.

And I imagine all the money in the world wouldn’t have lessened the pain of losing her child to suicide.

So sad for her daughters and her mum, Priscilla.

Coffeecreme · 13/01/2023 07:57

unfortunately @crochetmonkey74 this is aibu, rather oddly.

OneFrenchEgg · 13/01/2023 08:06

People who believe that money makes everything better are bitter, unpleasant, shallow people with no idea about what actual life is about other than that they are envious of others’ wealth and would rather have tragedy and money than no money…

I don't think people are saying this. Just that it's a lot easier to manage the practicalities and needs of tragedy if you are wealthy rather than in a normal or low income household. If I'd been well off when my son became very ill a lot of the additional stress wouldn't have happened because I could have paid for childcare for the others, taxis, not run up a credit card travelling to see him etc etc

Oohthatwind · 13/01/2023 08:08

I feel sad too. I feel like Lisa Marie was fetishised by many due to her dad. Whilst it’s not true of everyone, you’re generally a product of your environment, and I always felt there was something tragic about her. I read she had been living with her ex and so I hope that gave her some support after the loss of her boy. Very sad

And?

Do you think it’s e.g. acceptable for people to head down the road to the pub which is known for fighting just so that they can have a ruck or two?

This notion that people have the right to be vile and express whatever opinion they want just because it’s AIBU and people shouldn’t be annoyed at that needs to stop.

And perhaps mn hq need to start thinking about whether this is the reputation they want for their site. Because outsiders coming in aren’t going to see that there’s one particular board where people are vile to each other, people are going to see the vile opinions generally expressed on every thread now, and see mn as a toxic environment where people go to be as vile to each other as possible.

Because it’s no longer restricted to AIBU. People behave like this all over the site. But mn won’t do anything about it because it brings traffic to their site.

But even if there are supportive parts of mn, they are by far outweighed by the vileness.

MN, and especially AIBU, has become like tiktok online.

That could be explained if this thread was in the context of someone going through something like that.

But no amount of money is going to change how you can deal and react to the loss of a child or a parent. And that was what the poster was referring to after all.

Solido · 13/01/2023 08:11

MayThe4th · 13/01/2023 07:27

So why did you give up all your money then if you’d prefer to be miserable with money. I mean in order for you to know that it’s better to be miserable, have a son kill himself, lose a parent as a child, battle addiction with money than without you must have experienced this first hand, no? No, didn’t think so.

People who believe that money makes everything better are bitter, unpleasant, shallow people with no idea about what actual life is about other than that they are envious of others’ wealth and would rather have tragedy and money than no money…

I don’t think @Throwncrumbs meant that, I think she meant you can be miserable rich or miserable poor, but, of the two, it’s easier (ie in terms of creature comforts and security and so on) to be miserable rich — which is absolutely true (having been very poor myself, I can vouch for that!). Rip lisa.

XelaM · 13/01/2023 01:37

This.

Sole as the sole heiress to Elvis Presley's estate, she's had about as tough a life as Prince Harry... 🤨

Do you people have to bring the royal family into everything - even on a thread about something completely unrelated? Ffs just let it go. The royal family obsession is batshit.

amaryllis134 · 13/01/2023 08:19

it's so sad. I remember visiting Graceland in the 90's and looking around Elvis's jet, the Lisa Marie. He doted on her. I also lost my Dad suddenly when I was a similar age to her and it affected my whole life

Cocolapew · 13/01/2023 08:26

I feel really sad about this.
She was the same age me and my mum and dad were big Elvis fans so I always 'knew' her iyswim.
She doesn't seem to have had a very stable life.

I agree with you, horrible to read.

The moderation on this site leaves a lot to be desired imo.

Sunshinealwaysfollowstherainstorm · 13/01/2023 08:37

Rest in peace Lisa Marie.

Thoughts are with her family especially her daughters and mother at this time.

OneFrenchEgg · 13/01/2023 08:38

Well I would disagree, having experienced the death of a parent while I was a child. Again, not having to worry about the practicality removes an additional layer of stress without touching the awfulness of the original event.

tothesea · 13/01/2023 08:40

I was born the same year as Lisa Marie and was a huge Elvis fan as a child. I remember vividly my Papa telling me he’d died and thinking Oh poor Lisa Marie! Here I am 45 years later.. poor Lisa Marie. I do hope she can rest in peace.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 13/01/2023 08:41

I feel sad about it too. Especially after she lost her son in 2020. Poor family.

AllTheYoungGoodyTwoShoes · 13/01/2023 08:51

Very sad news this morning that Lisa Marie Presley has passed away, heard she had had a cardiac arrest yesterday. Just slightly older than me, I grew up knowing about her. She has had so much stress losing her son.
I can remember the day Elvis died too. Her poor mother and children.

Another victim of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome? I'm sure it's just a coincidence - because everything is, these days.

THIS!

MayThe4th · 13/01/2023 08:55

Newusernameaug · 13/01/2023 08:52

THIS!

Again. Go and educate yourself!

Sudden adult death syndrome is a real thing and is generally caused by an undiagnosed cardiomyopathy.

But as things stand no reason has been given for her death.

Presumably you’re the type to think that if a homeless person dies on the streets because of addiction then they have only themselves to blame? Or is your vitriol reserved for the wealthy?

OneFrenchEgg · 13/01/2023 08:56

May you're just being deliberately unkind tbh. I'm referencing the traumatic death of my parent remember?
No they weren't millionaires - if they were life would absolutely have been a lot better than the fact of being poor with no life insurance, no way to pay the mortgage and all the chaos that ensued.

I'm talking about the point made about money not about fame.

MissMarpleRocks · 13/01/2023 09:00

I still remember the headlines when Elvis died.

RIP Lisa Marie indeed a tragic life the death of a child - no one should have to be bury their child. Money is irrelevant. And as a pp said it was down to Priscilla & the trustees that turned Graceland around. I still remember visiting there nearly 40 years ago.
