Friend has pulled out of holiday the day before we are due to fly out

Hi,

I have had a ski holiday booked with my friend for the last six weeks. She is a bit flaky but I’ve never been in this position with her. I thought she was being unusually vague about the details and my suspicions have been confirmed today.

She has just texted me saying she doesn’t think she can’t come as she has pulled a muscle during yoga earlier this week and it’s too painful. I was with her last night and there didn’t seem anything wrong with her. I think she is either making this up or is really exaggerating (she can be a bit of a hypochondriac sometimes).

I thought she had been dropping hints she might not be able to come but I triple checked before the cut off for no refunds came. She told me to go ahead.

I have paid for everything and it’s nonrefundable (we have done this multiple times in the past with no issues so I wasn’t being overly naive). I haven’t discussed this aspect with her yet as I am too upset. We are meant to fly out tomorrow.

I am not sure what to do. My birthday is on Friday as well. It wasn’t originally envisioned as a birthday weekend just a cheapish off peak break :(

🤣🤣🤣

What does yetti mean?

Fluffmum · 12/01/2023 20:38

Get the money and go on your own.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 12/01/2023 20:38

I presume you’re insured. Tell her she needs a medical letter.
Its beyond despicable of her!

BettySwallocks · 12/01/2023 20:43

If you don't think she is going to pay for her half, bite your tongue and say nothing.
Make out you are concerned for her health
Bide your time

Let her pay for the 2 week holiday in Antigua in the 5* hotel AI and then the night before say you can't go as you have stubbed your toe and she can go fuck herself

oioimatey · 12/01/2023 20:53

Tell her she can come and just not ski. What a CFer, especially if it was just you two that were supposed to go.

oioimatey · 12/01/2023 20:55

Unless she gets a doctor's note, I'm afraid "reluctance to travel" is generally not covered by travel insurance.

It's a bit late for all this. This happened last night so OP will either be sat at home or on holiday already

queentim · 12/01/2023 21:06

I hope OP went, I would like to know how this turned out!

Hopefully OP your friend reimbursed you with very sincere apologies, or was able to attend and do other activities like others suggested.

roosterbooster999 · 12/01/2023 21:10

Ah that’s terrible esp the day before , I would text her back and say “ hope your feeling better soon! But send me your half anyway as it’s none refundable now , I’m still going to go you can still come and not ski ? “

riceuten · 12/01/2023 22:03

I suspect she has had a "better offer" and doesn't want to come, and expects you to pay for it. She could still have come and not ski'd.

BaconChops · 12/01/2023 22:20

Not cool and no friend does that.

Hi,

This thread really blew up. Apologies for not updating sooner and thanks to everyone for their concern.

Yes, I am on my holiday.

My friend admitted there were some financial issues she hadn’t disclosed whilst still maintaining she has genuinely injured herself. We have sorted out the finances between ourselves. I’ve gone with my lovely mum instead, although she isn’t much of a skier and she had to book fresh flights with a different airline, the holiday hasn’t gone to waste. We have just got back to the hotel after a lovely evening out.

I am not really sure how I feel towards my friend atm but it’s not going to spoil the holiday.

Thanks again for the support offered in this thread.

Yes I know what a yeti is, but what’s the relevance? The other poster posted ‘Yetti’ after my comment and you posted laughing emojis. Eh?

Enjoy your holiday OP. So pleased you have got there x 🌸

rookiemere · 12/01/2023 22:40

So glad you managed to go - and get a trip in with your DM - well done the pair of you !

What's the snow like?

Dontjudgeme101 · 12/01/2023 22:41

You asked what happened.

Someone else implied that the OP hadn’t updated because a Yeti had eaten her.

A third person found that funny and this contributed laughing emojis.

BillyNotQuiteNoMates · 12/01/2023 22:44

Nice one OP
Have a fabulous holiday with your mum
And happy birthday for tomorrow 🎂x

DaisyChristina · 12/01/2023 22:46

So glad your Mum is with you.

Hope you enjoy your holiday and have a lovely birthday!

Rightsraptor · 12/01/2023 22:46

Enjoy your holiday and don't think about your friend. You can do that when you're home.

BliainNua · 12/01/2023 22:50

Lovely update, enjoy your holiday with your lovely mum 🥰

Mariposista · 12/01/2023 22:51

Have a great time with your mum, happy birthday and don’t let that flaky piece of whatever ruin another second of your holiday.

Ahwelltoobad · 12/01/2023 22:51

Since I'm going to bed now: Happy birthday! Glad you got your getaway, wish you a lovely time! ❄

saraclara · 12/01/2023 22:52

I'm glad you made it. But I really hope that your friend paid her share, or at the very least covered your mum's flights and any other part of the trip that your mum can't use and you shouldn't have to pay for.
