Dh disapproves of coffee in bed?

Please help settle a disagreement. Early mornings with dcs are proving challenging atm, therefore I have suggested bringing our Dulce Gusto pod machine up to the bedroom. This will mean i can enjoy a quick coffee before the chaos starts, rather than during or not at all. Dh thinks it should stay in the kitchen "where it belongs." He says coffee in bed is lazy. AIBU or should I be a rebel?

@Ragwort that sounds heavenly! I wish we had a spare room sometimes, so much easier. Don't they say couples who sleep separately have longer marriages? Or have I completely just made that up?!

@Sellorkeep drinking on the balcony is definately decadence, sounds wonderful.

Absolutely do it!

Foreverinbluedreams · 10/01/2023 15:24

I have my coffee machine on my bedside table and it's the best decision I've ever made! I wake up in the morning, press a button and lay there while the scent of the sweet nectar of the gods fills the room. Have my coffee in bed and I'm ready to tackle the day.

Go for it OP you won't regret it.

Inmoremode · 10/01/2023 15:24

My husband does the same and minds dc while I drink it in peace

MeMyBooksAndMyCats · 10/01/2023 15:24

It's a no for me. I'd be worried the kids would play with it and get burnt but I'm not a coffee fan anyway.

Yet again, that's not really possible.

But it doesn't matter if YOU would like it. Op wants her coffee machine in her bedroom to drink her coffee when she wants it. What difference does it make if you wouldn't like that?

Yesterdaywasntreal · 10/01/2023 15:27

@Foreverinbluedreams We are certainly like minded with this! It just gets you ready for the day doesn't it? I always feel so much happier and better able to tackle the day once I've had it. I think having the caffeine straight away would be productive, I crave it as soon as wake up.

Yes, have your coffee machine upstairs. Because it is a small thing that will make you happy. Buy a second one if necessary, just for that purpose.

Yesterdaywasntreal · 10/01/2023 15:29

Thank you @bringmetheheadofpastaalfredo that's exactly it. If I thought it imposed any sort of danger I wouldn't even be considering it. Dc's safety always comes first.

'If HE doesn't like the idea of coffee machine in the bedroom then it is up to HIM to either provide the coffee YOU feel will things better for YOU or to share in the tasks with the kids to share the morning load better to enable you to have your coffee.'

Yes he should, he will say he doesn't have time to deal with dcs or breakfast etc as "too busy with work" lying in bed on his work phone until last minute when he gets ready, and heads to office. Meanwhile I'm run ragged with dcs, one doesn't want to get ready or go to school and cries, big battle to get ready, other one doesn't want to go to help drop off. Then I look at time and it is rushing out door, forget my drink. Through the night his phone vibrates with emails etc and he will say he has put it on 'don't disturb.' 🤔

Ah ok so the real issue here is he is a useless husband and crap father

I don't know why I'm so invested in this but you've really struck a chord with me! I will not be happy until you have your coffee by your bed!!

Now I really need a coffee....it's all the way downstairs....

Yesterdaywasntreal · 10/01/2023 15:37

@bringmetheheadofpastaalfredo I think a nice chocolate biscuit with your coffee is certainly required in this situation! I think dh may very well change his tune when I stop making his morning one!

Your husband is ignorant and unreasonable. Probably never has made you a coffee in his life. I'd stop making him coffee, or dinner, until he sees reason. These type of men need to be trained to behave like decent husbands unfortunately. I'd say I'm either putting it in the room, or you get up and make me one first thing.

My parents always had tea and coffee in bed, and my dad would always get up and make them and bring it in to mum and set it on her side desk. It sounds like aren't so lucky to have a husband that does that. My husband and I have coffee in bed, and it's around half and half as to who makes them and brings them in.

At the end of the day, you are the mother of his children and do the brunt of the work, and with an ND child. He should say "whatever works for you." and be grateful to you.

Well if you insist, who am I to argue?

I honestly think this is a good issue for you to put your foot down on. All the way down. He needs to know that he does not get to decide such things for you, sounds like he has far too much his own way and needs a shock.
Start with the coffee, and feel emboldened!

Yesterdaywasntreal · 10/01/2023 15:42

Thank you @IAmWomanHearMeRoar1 you are spot on. I feel dh just can't see the woods for the trees with this. His views are clouded by his preconceived notions of what is 'proper' passed down from his parents.

I have 5 kids.
I brought a tassimo for this reason. I have a lovely relaxing coffee, scan emails, banking app, calendars and online newspapers, then up washing mug in upstairs bathroom ( I have a sponge with liquid dispenser in bathroom) then cup airs dries for the day on the tassimo. I shower then get kids up. It's totally lush. (Ps you can make hot chocolate at night too).

Jellybean23 · 10/01/2023 15:43

I worked with a woman once who actually admitted regularly making COOKED BREAKFAST in the bedroom. The news spread round the office like wildfire. A coffee seems innocuous in comparison

Yesterdaywasntreal · 10/01/2023 15:47

@bringmetheheadofpastaalfredo I insist you have more than one! I agree a shock will do him good and feel inspired!

Hot chocolate yes! I need to do this. Infact I think I'll fire it up when ever dh is in the bedroom to give him even more to complain about!

Why? If you're going to drink coffee in bed, whats the difference whether you make it there or not?

I eat in my living room but I’m yet to move in the oven! 😂

Whoah I'm intrigued! Was this a summer house she slept in?!

Kettle on a tray in the room with coffee bags as a solution- coffee machine can then stay in the kitchen so easier for use in the day/ if you have guests etc

What! Why on earth not? What else do you use underneath the coffee table for? 🤣

Hmm if it makes your life easier I'd say go for it, hotel rooms have them so just say you're styling your room based on one. I can't really understand your husband's dispute about it and if he's already up working from home before he leaves if it's such an issue surely he can bring you a cup of coffee up, a pod machine is not exactly onerous to operate.
