Dh disapproves of coffee in bed?

Yesterdaywasntreal · 10/01/2023 11:40

Please help settle a disagreement. Early mornings with dcs are proving challenging atm, therefore I have suggested bringing our Dulce Gusto pod machine up to the bedroom. This will mean i can enjoy a quick coffee before the chaos starts, rather than during or not at all. Dh thinks it should stay in the kitchen "where it belongs." He says coffee in bed is lazy. AIBU or should I be a rebel?

Also adding on that my husband often brings me fresh coffee if he gets up before me, I'm quite clumsy so he does make sure I drink it on an armchair and not in bed haha, but room service caffeine is a great way to start off my morning

Tbh I am mostly on his side unless you have a sideboard with room for it, a mini fridge for milk (if you need it) and ample storage for pods etc. I enjoy a coffee in bed too, especially in a hotel where it's all conveniently located in the rooms. In my bedroom I wouldn't personally have one as the fridge / noise / cleaning etc would put me off.

But if it's making your mornings easier and he's insisting it stays, I'd take it as an offer to bring you up coffees 😊

The Dolce Gusto milky coffees come with a separate milk pod.

You need to get your husband to do morning duty with the kids half the time. If he doesn’t have time he can catch up by working though his lunch hour.

Your current set up is very unfair to you.

Which of you drops the kids off at school / nursery / childminder ?

Yesterdaywasntreal · 10/01/2023 14:41

@Elois when I have mentioned it in the past, he just says "Well I will then I won't finish until bedtime." I take the dcs to school.

Just saw he doesn't help in mornings because he's too "busy" with "work" but has time for a lunchtime cycle.. Why do you even care what the selfish twat thinks?

AlbertaAnnie · 10/01/2023 14:43

I enjoy a coffee in bed but it gets made in the kitchen and brought up - that said if you think that works for you just go for it! It’s not doing any harm I suppose

Yesterdaywasntreal · 10/01/2023 14:44

@warmzebra he doesn't cycle everyday, but he has complained that he has no time on the days he has done this. He still complains he has no time for his hobbies. He'll have a shower in the morning, I have it the evening before to avoid having to be up at an ungodly hour to get time in the morning, it would disturb dcs too.

I think you are unreasonable. You should be able to get a 5 minute coffee in the morning with another adult present and even with unruly kids.

The coffee machine does belong in the kitchen and moving it is just a sticking plaster over the fact that you have DH problem. And unruly kids. Start there.

Crimeismymiddlename · 10/01/2023 14:55

I dream of having a home and bedroom big enough for a hot drink station. The only reason I don’t have one now is my flat is so small the kitchen is only six steps away from the bedroom!

warmzebra · 10/01/2023 14:56

@UWhatNow Husband isn't present, he lies in bed doing emails on his phone, OP is handling the kids alone downstairs and making husband's coffee for him as well.

My brother's kid (with ASD) would often meltdown during morning transitions and I certainly wouldn't be able to face that without a coffee (or two!) in the morning!

'The coffee machine does belong in the kitchen and moving it is just a sticking plaster over the fact that you have DH problem. And unruly kids. Start there.'

Fair enough except the dc aren't unruly. One is a very little typical demanding toddler, and poorly atm. The other is neuro diverse.

I can completely relate to the difficulty your brother has. Dc will have a meltdown pretty much every morning, alot of sensory processing difficulties, overwhelmed getting ready for school, shoes too tight, uniform not right, doesn't want to eat breakfast and the list goes on.

It's not fair enough OP! Dpn't listen to that rude shite. Your coffee machine belongs wherever you want to put it, not where pps think it should be.

My husband brings me a coffee in bed every week day morning before he leaves. When he works away for the night or two first thing I do I’d bring my coffee machine up to bed with me 😂 bit of coffee mate in a mug before bed, all set up to go at the push of a button. It’s my only coffee of the day so I just leave it there!

Wetblanket78 · 10/01/2023 15:06

Can't you just get up a bit earlier? You need to consider the risk of DC going in your bedroom unsupervised playing with the coffee machine and getting burnt.

Beachhutnut · 10/01/2023 15:08

If I had a spare coffee machine I would totally do this. I'd still need my coffee machine in the kitchen as well though!

Getting up earlier wouldn't help. Also it would be extremely difficult for a child to burn themselves on one of these machines

CousinKrispy · 10/01/2023 15:12

Isn't it just like having a Teasmade or whatever they were called? Nothing wrong with it if it's what you want to do.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 10/01/2023 15:13

I don't even drink tea and coffee and I wouldn't give a hoot if my partner wanted one of these gadgets in the bedroom. Providing it (the machine) doesn't splutter and gurgle randomly in the night.

Ragwort · 10/01/2023 15:16

Have you got a spare room? I'd move in there with my coffee machine. One of the reasons my DH and I have separate rooms (married 35 years) is that we can do what we like re sleep and bedtime routines without having to compromise or 'seek approval'. I thoroughly recommend it.

fromdownwest · 10/01/2023 15:16

Coffee in bed is all good with me, a coffee machine in the bed room is lunacy! 😆

Yes it would be well out way and it is only on when plugged in and activated. They are good at not touching things like that and recognise hot etc. That said it doesn't get hot and the coffee is more or less drinking temperature. Their 'kids temperature' hot chocolates when we've been out have been hotter

It’s a fab idea. I’d get a second coffee machine for the bedroom if either of you drinks coffee later in the day. I was thinking of getting one too to have coffee on my bedroom balcony when the days get warmer.

Why? If you're going to drink coffee in bed, whats the difference whether you make it there or not?
