Why do they have to be plastered with make up and have those funny inflated lips. Even Karen Brady is caked on.

Even in the sober business attire pic example, women show a bit more neck, chest, cleavage sometimes, ankles, calves, legs. Men are covered from the jugular notch to their toes. Flat shoes they can run in, practical trousers, layers they can take off (shirt, waist coat maybe, blazer), hair out of the way, no make up to take up time in the morning.

There's always been inequality and differences in how the genders dress.

it doesn’t have to be like this though. That’s the sad thing. It’s not even fashion. The BBC are supposed to be bastions of equality but they seem to be mixing the Apprentice up with Rue Paul’s drag race. It’s pretty appalling they cannot be more progressive when it comes to female stereotypes.

and sorry I just don’t but the fact that the contestants are free to choose what they wear. ‘Encouraging’ and ‘advising’ is coercive. How can anyone say if a woman who refused to go along with the ‘advice’ and ‘peer pressure’ would be marginalised?

it’s just too far fetched to think that it’s an accident that out of all twelve contestants not one presents themselves like the ‘ordinary’ women you see on the tube everyday?

it’s no accident, it’s all been carefully managed. Shame on the BBC.

The stylist/wardrobe team have been transported in time from 1985

But the lips though. Incomprehensible

Nobody wears those suits anymore. Even City boys stopped wearing ties

I worked in investment banking and I didn't meet any women dressed even vaguely like that. As people said, it's very Dynasty circa 1985.

Partly as everyone worked sufficiently long hours that they weren't going to get up at 4am to spend an hour titivating their bee-stung lips and false eyelashes. The overly tight dresses, killer heels and heavy makeup would also have been frowned on if you were client facing.

But hey, I guess it makes for a certain look en masse on tv.

Well the pleasant looking girl with the bridal business walked out. She looked normal! They have had the token slightly older woman but last year it was a Muslim
lady with children and she walked out too. There have been normal looking contestants but since slab colour dressing has been introduced, clothes are dire. Clothes express personality. I seem to remember a contestant wearing a hat. This programme needs talented individuals. Not a parade of clones.
