To Wash DH's Stuff With Mine

TheShellBeach · 02/01/2023 14:01

My NDN invited me over for coffee this morning and a woman I've never met before was telling me that she washes her DH's underpants separately from the rest of the washing, as she "doesn't want her stuff to be contaminated with his pants".

They have children, so it seems that she's been "contaminated" by contact with her husband's body more than once in her life.

AIBU to think it's weird? I wash our clothes together. I thought everyone did.

I couldn't be bothered with this! The only stuff that gets washed separately is DP's gym/referee kit as it goes on a hot wash because a 30 degree wash doesn't take the stink out. Otherwise, it all goes in one.

Unless you completely disinfect the washing machine between washes, there isn’t any pointing doing a specific pant wash etc, although I do wash tea towels seperately, I know it makes zero difference to hygiene, it just feels odd seeing clean towels in with clean pants.

Me and my husband never mix our washing, but thats purely to make it easier/quicker to put away as we don’t have to spend ages working out whose pants are whose etc.

I can imagine some lazy bloke doing just that to be honest Grin buying 50 pairs and washing them every 6 weeks or so when he ran out!

When DD was a teen I did an enraged sortout of her pigsty of a bedroom and counted 52 pairs of knickers. And she had more at her dad's house.

I remember being in hospital after having my eldest. My dh sat on the edge of my bed & a nurse told him off (cross contamination) he howled with laughter & pointed to baby & said it was a bit late for that Grin

I can't imagine how much energy would be wasted doing separate loads of laundry

I love that. I think I’d like your bloke a lot.

I don't even separate ours, barring whites 😂 idc. Maybe he has skiddies.

NicLondon1 · 02/01/2023 15:40

Yes this is about POO CRUMBS AND SKID MARKS!
I’m on her side, also wash separately ha ha

StaceySolomonSwash · 02/01/2023 15:45

Our clothes go in together, (undies and socks on a hotter wash).

Tea towels, towels and bedding are also washed separately to clothing.

Maybe he's terrible at wiping his arse.

😂😂😂

LemonPledge555 · 02/01/2023 15:54

My MIL does this. I cannot fathom why!!

TheShellBeach · 02/01/2023 16:00

Feeling a bit sick at the thought of poo crumbs.

OP posts:
Fraine · 02/01/2023 16:18

Yes, when poo crumbs are mentioned it’s time for me to hide thread 🤮

Long live separate washes! Especially now that we wash most things at 30 to help environment.

angelpoise · 02/01/2023 16:22

He might just have some really grim habits she hadn't told you about. I'd arrange another coffee and ask

2bazookas · 02/01/2023 15:04

She might get pregnant if his underpants mingle with her knickers. I thought everyone knew that.

The mystery of how I got pregnant is solved .😆
seriously though has she never stayed in a hotel I mean the towels and bedding have all been used before , some dirty sod could of wiped his arse with towel that you dried your face with but it’s been washed so you’d never know.

Great idea.

How shall I frame the question, out of interest?

"Does your DH shit in his pants?"

"Does your DH use his pants for anything vile and unmentionable?"

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 02/01/2023 16:29

What does she think she would be contaminated with? I'd be interested in keeping the subject going to be honest. Just to find out.

gettingolderandgrumpier · 02/01/2023 16:33

Yeah I’m quite intrigued how she thinks it’s contaminated. I mean she does understand that all washing is dirty until gone through the machine .

AliceMcK · 02/01/2023 16:36

I wash separately.

I used to get bad thrush as a teenager once I left home it stopped. It turned out I was getting it from my mum washing our underwear together, she always had bad thrush. Washing dose not kill off all bacteria and infections. Since then I always wash clothes especially underwear separately. My DCs underwear never goes in with ours. DHs underwear goes in with his jeans and hoodies and I do mine separately as I like mine to go on a hot wash.

I also remember a child abuse/murder case, not in the UK where seamen and the accused pubes were found in the young girls clean underwear, the argument was it could have got there by her underwear being washed with his. He got off.

BigFatLiar · 02/01/2023 16:41

All goes together unless I have some fancy bra/pants to wash (not that i have many of those - mostly functional).

Something like that. Maybe hand around the Bourbon biscuits first

JaneJeffer · 02/01/2023 16:48

I have banned DH from washing anything of mine because he takes no notice of washing instructions.

wetpebbles · 02/01/2023 16:51

I wash his separately as his feet stink and he works outside, sweats a lot so gets a full load every 7 days, he also leaves tissues in!

But but but.......

@wetpebbles surely you go through his clothes before putting them in the machine?

<<<<<<shocked>>>>>>

MrsClatterbuck · 02/01/2023 16:54

Just dh and I in this house. Wash all our clothes together unless it's his hobby clothes which do get washed separately. I do use Napisan in some washes for underwear and trousers which is something she could consider.

TheShellBeach · 02/01/2023 16:55

I mean - mine also leaves tissues in the pockets because he's an idiot, but after 30 years or so I am used to it......................and I remove them.
