You’ve summed up my complex feelings on this.
the NHS is obviously in crisis. DS has just started in med school, and having nurse and doctor friends DH and I were trying to talk him out of it. I would never have thought I’d be doing that.
I am an ‘expat brat’ and grew up in countries in Europe and Asia, spent 5 years in Scotland, and been back in the U.K. for the last 25 years. I’ve experienced lots of different healthcare models.
I have never voted Tory either. And find it slightly depressing to have to start any debate with that in this current climate. And it is also depressing when any debate about the NHS disintegrates into simplistic mud slinging. How can we affect change when it seems to be about insulting different points of view, rather than trying to work together for the common good?
I teach 6 year olds, and they tolerate different points of view with more respect.
