Dressing “sexy” infront of in laws

aibu to dress “sexy” infront of inlaws.

Obviously not talking lingerie or boobs spilling out but everytime I see my inlaws I wear sensible boring things that I think they’d “approve of” i.e a long sleeve jumper that would show 0 curves or a buttoned up to the neck floral dress.

…I know it’s normal to dress conservative when you first meet partners parents, but is it normal to then dress “sexier” if that is your normal style? For example I would normally wear over knee boots with tight jeans, or a mini skirt with black tights or a tight top (I’m E cup) so would look very “sexy”.

I just want to be myself, and not this polite librarian character ive created or AIBU and should tone it down infront of them?

I don't think I've ever felt the need to dress differently for my in laws, I have always been fairly alternative (toned down a little with age though). If that's how you dress on a day to day basis then why change it unless you're embarrassed by it/uncomfortable in yourself - in which case why dress like it at all? Then again I see loads of women in skinny jeans with over the knee boots - it's actually a fairly standard look on the school run - and I don't really associate them with dressing provocativley.

Wider leg jeans are in now.

Perhaps you could compromise? Over the knee boots, but with a looser top? Like this

Yup, I saw someone in thought high pvc boots the other day. Hadn’t seen that look since the 1980s. It was a trans woman.

When you have a big bust it’s easy to make the plainest top look sexy. Without trying. It’s annoying.

I wouldn’t see thigh boots over jeans as sexy, more pantomime Jim Hawkins but I guess sexiness is in the eye of the beholder.
I’d make an effort when meeting the in-laws for the first time though. A bit less scruffy for example.

I’m sorry, but anyone that has a big chest knows that wearing a tight top is not the same as if someone with small boobs wore it. Just like small boobed people can go braless but if a big chested person went braless it would look far too in your face.

Do you actually dress “sexy” all the time? Do you have a range of shoes/styles in your wardrobe to cater for different occasions? Why do you want to look sexy all the time? I’d find it exhausting. Is it for your own benefit?
I have no fashion sense whatsoever and rarely feel sexy, but I would only want to dress in a sexy way if I was trying to attract a mate.

There’s a middle ground between dressing like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman and wearing a frumpy polo neck with an ankle length skirt, OP. Plenty of women look beautiful without wearing thigh length boots. That’s not a case of them ‘not being themselves’, it’s simply dressing to look your best for different occasions. If you think your clothes are inappropriate enough that you think you’d better not wear them, then surely it’s better to consider why you only feel good / sexy in clothes that might not look classy?
