Dressing “sexy” infront of in laws

aibu to dress “sexy” infront of inlaws.

Obviously not talking lingerie or boobs spilling out but everytime I see my inlaws I wear sensible boring things that I think they’d “approve of” i.e a long sleeve jumper that would show 0 curves or a buttoned up to the neck floral dress.

…I know it’s normal to dress conservative when you first meet partners parents, but is it normal to then dress “sexier” if that is your normal style? For example I would normally wear over knee boots with tight jeans, or a mini skirt with black tights or a tight top (I’m E cup) so would look very “sexy”.

I just want to be myself, and not this polite librarian character ive created or AIBU and should tone it down infront of them?

Everyone wears clothes to portray an image of themselves - especially you, apparently, if you have a “librarian” look and a “sexy” look and, apparently, nothing much in between. So, I guess the question is, do you want your in laws to think you are sexy?

I get what the OP means but so far we’ve had troll hunters, answers saying those outfits aren’t remotely sexy, accusations of stealth blasts of how sexy the OP must find herself 😂 I don’t like over the knee boots personally as I’m all about trainers but there are nicer images than the ones on this thread.

I find it strange if people have always seen me dressed a certain way to suddenly turn up somewhere much more dressed up so I get what you mean if you’ve always dressed ‘appropriately’ and want to start being yourself. I would feel weird in something like over the knee boots in front of the in-laws, other people wouldn’t bat an eye. Also, as you are an E cup I can see how you wouldn’t want to wear a tight top. It is a different look to someone with a smaller chest.

The important thing is to have a really close shave, or you won’t fool them at all.

Would your FIL be pleased or annoyed if you turned up in a tight top and he thought you might poke his eyes out?

Maybe the person to ask is not us here as anons, but your husband. They are his family. He surely knows if your choice of outfits will outrage them or they won't notice at all.

"Sexy" is subjective. A lot of people won't think what you wear is sexy. A lot will. You can't know what your partner's parents will think. So I would say just dress in what makes you comfortable.

I agree with the pp who said that if you saw the tight tops/jeans/thigh boots etc as your natural style you wouldn’t view it as ‘sexy’, they would just be your clothes and this wouldn’t have crossed your mind.
