Dressing “sexy” infront of in laws

aibu to dress “sexy” infront of inlaws.

Obviously not talking lingerie or boobs spilling out but everytime I see my inlaws I wear sensible boring things that I think they’d “approve of” i.e a long sleeve jumper that would show 0 curves or a buttoned up to the neck floral dress.

…I know it’s normal to dress conservative when you first meet partners parents, but is it normal to then dress “sexier” if that is your normal style? For example I would normally wear over knee boots with tight jeans, or a mini skirt with black tights or a tight top (I’m E cup) so would look very “sexy”.

I just want to be myself, and not this polite librarian character ive created or AIBU and should tone it down infront of them?

My in-laws love it when I dress sexy for them. Really leaves em drooling

I suppose if you are someone who generally dresses 'sexy' from day to day you might have this problem. I don't think I'm midi dresses and boots (cardi when it's cold) are going to cause much consternation.

Don’t listening to all the bitchy replies OP. I think we all know what you mean with over the knee boots and tight jeans, they’re just being nasty. Honestly I think you can dress ‘sexy’ and in your usual style but I’d keep it modest. Tight but not revealing, shorter skirt with thick black tights etc, i underhand why you wanted to do the prim and proper thing and if you only see them once in a blue moon then it’s no big deal to just tweek your style a bit but if you’re seeing them on a regular basis then be yourself, I wouldn’t wear anything that I wouldn’t wear anything that showed. A lot of flesh though tbh as I’d be uncomfortable that I was making them feel awkward .

OP - assuming you’re for real you’re getting a rough deal. If you like wearing tight tops, thigh boots etc and that’s how you feel best, go for it. I honestly don’t think many in laws would care and I don’t think it’s tarty or weird to wear the clothes you want within reason.

On the other hand, if you’re perving over women’s outfits, may I refer you to @TrentCrimm s post above.

@TrentCrimm , that is quite sexy. I find an Arran jumper and a Volvo quite sexy though.

I know what OP means - over knee boots with skinny jeans was a classic 2010-2019 type look made famous by models such as Rosie Huntington, Miranda Kerr and Kate Moss. Wouldn’t call it sexy unless it was a particular style such as lace up boots with ripped jeans.

But it’s quite a dated look now since skinny jeans are out of style. Over knee boots would still look good with leather leggings or a structured mini dress though.

I do both, peer over my librarian glasses to make sure FIL is watching then Wooosh I rip off my velcro'd cardigan revealing my E cups, don't we all do that at the in-laws?

You literally couldn’t be any more covered up. I wouldn’t think twice about wearing over knee boots in front of anyone but I don’t tend to go around with my chest on show.
