Name changed for this as my other threads are quite outing. Sorry its long!

Me and partner are away for a few days over Christmas, our next door neighbour has a spare key for our house for emergencies (we have their spare house key as well). We are not close friends just normal neighbours, They have had family visiting over Christmas/new year. On boxing day they text me and asked if some of their family could sleep in our home as more of the family had arrive unexpectedly! We said no because beds need changing and heating not on etc.(also I dont want strangers in my home)Well since then we have had text after text asking over and over again! I have also repeatedly tried to ring them but they are not picking up! The last one was very late last night (I was already in bed asleep)asking again and saying the family who they want to stay's car has broken down! I feel like packing up here and going home now as so worried they will just use my house anyway! I dont have any friends or family nearby who can check on my home. My partner has said they surely wont just use our house but I'm not sure they wont. 😥

@ridiculoso82 she doesn't know they have but she also doesn't know they didn't and if it's important to her which is clearly is then the possibility that they did is enough to cause upset.

WifeMotherWorker · 02/01/2023 17:52

Unbelievable!!!! Some people are so fucking cheeky, the nerve of allowing her granddaughters free rein to her neighbours house! No normal, sane, mentally balanced person would think this was acceptable. Unreal.

I’m curious how the OP knows they wore shoes!

She doesn't know it. It is a clear option and she knows she can't believe the neighbours whatever they say about it. So for all practical purposes she needs to count with the option they did.
Good reason to be angry.

Willmafrockfit · 02/01/2023 17:59

i never forget how annoyed i was to come home to my house share and two of the lads were in my room watching a video!
my bank statements and all sorts were all over the floor <<my bad>>

such an infringement
shocking treatment by your neighbour op.
at least she told you but i bet she only told you half a story

LadyEloise1 · 02/01/2023 18:00

@Castleontheisland I thought your mother had taken the key from the neighbour when she went down to check for you ?

Well spotted! “Mum said who she was and needed my key and can she have a word with neighbour please? The girl went inside and after several minutes returned with my key stating her gran was 'lying down'.”

I took it to mean that the OP returned the neighbour's own key.

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 02/01/2023 18:23

That's how I interpreted it, too

PurpleEmpress · 02/01/2023 18:30

I’m interested in how the neighbour knew the OP had Sky/Netflix without a lot of snooping around. I have no idea what TV my neighbours have apart from one lot having a dish on their back wall.

Yes you’re quite right! Apologies OP.

Sky - there'd be a dish.

Netflix - lucky bonus

It may have come up in normal conversation, say if OP and neighbour were talking about recent TV they’d been watching, and OP mentioned shows that are only on Sky / Netflix.

IVFlife · 03/01/2023 00:08

Get well soon @Castleontheisland

Emotionalsupportviper · 03/01/2023 08:58

Give her a bill for the holiday duration usage of your TV etc, plus one for laundry detergent, bleach, carpet shampoo and the hire of one of those machines.

If she complains say you need to remove any trace of them from your home because the very thought of them using any of your stuff makes you feel physically sick!

You won't get anything, but it will let her know how you feel about her and her equally appalling relatives.

Itschristmastimeinthecity · 03/01/2023 09:24

Just when I thought I'd heard it all. I cannot believe your neighbour would do that!

How old are they if you don't mind me asking? Nearly everyone has sky/netflix

B1993 · 03/01/2023 09:32

@Itschristmastimeinthecity, didn't OP say it was her neighbours grandchildren watching? That to me would suggest at least 60's.

Ohnonevermind · 03/01/2023 09:43

My parents don’t have sky or Netflix but I bring an Amazon fire stick and they my dc’s can watch stuff at my parents.

iminapickleofhoarding · 03/01/2023 10:11

They’re not only trespassing but stealing services and electricity. It is utterly disgusting

No doubt the heating had to be turned up to keep them cosy while snuggled on ops sofa watching all those lovely films. Can't have the little darlings feeling chilly.😰

YoungForestElephant · 03/01/2023 10:29

Apologies wrong thread

MavisMcMinty · 03/01/2023 10:33

To me it seems obvious the neighbour mentioned “grandchildren” in the belief you couldn’t possibly blame children for stealing your Netflix.

Helen901 · 03/01/2023 10:53

Wow and i wonder how many other times this has happened when youve been away. Thats really not on. Angry for you 🤬
