Name changed for this as my other threads are quite outing. Sorry its long!

Me and partner are away for a few days over Christmas, our next door neighbour has a spare key for our house for emergencies (we have their spare house key as well). We are not close friends just normal neighbours, They have had family visiting over Christmas/new year. On boxing day they text me and asked if some of their family could sleep in our home as more of the family had arrive unexpectedly! We said no because beds need changing and heating not on etc.(also I dont want strangers in my home)Well since then we have had text after text asking over and over again! I have also repeatedly tried to ring them but they are not picking up! The last one was very late last night (I was already in bed asleep)asking again and saying the family who they want to stay's car has broken down! I feel like packing up here and going home now as so worried they will just use my house anyway! I dont have any friends or family nearby who can check on my home. My partner has said they surely wont just use our house but I'm not sure they wont. 😥

I'd tell her that you'll be checking the room cameras you'd installed before you went & see if she breaks out in a sweat.

I do hope you feel better soon OP.

Soothsayer1 · 02/01/2023 11:43

I can't help thinking they just gave you an edited version of what really happened?
That is extremely weird behaviour

Very much so. That place has surely been Liberty Hall, in the eyes of that astounding neighbour.
I’m sure you’re changing sheets and vacuuming like mad, just when you want to flake out.
Get well soon, and I suppose the rest, re next door, is in the hands of Karma. 🙏🏼

ruralwanderer · 02/01/2023 11:55

Oh blimey, thanks for the update and sorry you're going through this. Your neighbours sound completely unhinged!

Pterrydactyl · 02/01/2023 11:57

How could she think it’s acceptable to let her granddaughters into your house so they can watch your TV?
Even if that’s genuinely the only thing that’s happened it’s a bloody cheek!

Hope you recover quickly from the Covid.

MeridianB · 02/01/2023 11:59

This is nuts. What did she say when you went over? Did she honestly think this was normal? And are you sure no one stayed?

Playingdevilsadvocate · 02/01/2023 12:02

Well I hope you shouting at her projected over some covid! It’s the least she deserves.

DelurkingLawyer · 02/01/2023 12:04

The most effective lie is often one that contains a grain of truth.

That’s what she’s trying (although failing!) to achieve here. She knows she can’t get away with admitting the whole truth because you would rightly be furious. So she’s told you a lie with a grain of truth - hoping that if she admits they were in the house but only a tiny bit it explains away any signs that they were in there.

I strongly suspect the real story is that they were staying over. What an absolute CF. Glad you yelled at her.

Soothsayer1 · 02/01/2023 12:07

If I was in this situation I would be VERY tempted to not say anything and go away leaving them with the key but have cameras everywhere

Bonjovispyjamas · 02/01/2023 12:15

Bloody hell, what an intrusion, some people are unbelievable.

My3dahliasarebloominlovely · 02/01/2023 12:23

Bloody Norah! I was hoping you'd get home and find nothing to make you think that they'd done anything after all.... Glad you shouted at her. I also hope that you sprayed her with infectious droplets. And I'm sure changing the beds is the last thing you both feel like doing, but Yeuch! Get well soon.

HolliDays · 02/01/2023 12:32

Oh my word the cheek of it! What an absolute CF - I am so sorry OP. I too agree with other posters who are suggesting that she is giving you just a portion of the truth. I hope you and your other half don't suffer too much from the 'rona. Good idea to put some security measures in place.

I think that's spot on.

WiddlinDiddlin · 02/01/2023 14:06

Yep, I agree with PP... this story is bollocks, its a pathetic cover story in case you spot anything amiss or any of the neighbours says anything. They used your house as per their request, despite you saying no.

PurpleButterflyWings · 01/01/2023 16:09

Well I never noticed. That's how few fucks I give. 🤘

Yes it was very clearly updated and finished

PegasusReturns · 02/01/2023 14:26

Agree they’re arse covering.

It’ll be interesting to see what the router says. Connections at 11pm will be tricky to explain…

iminapickleofhoarding · 02/01/2023 14:29

Op please check the router records and let us know! I’m too invested in this story

Yes all bedding has being changed (3 bedrooms) and hoovered (new carpets😥we don't walk on them in outdoor shoes) all through the house, disinfectant sprayed all over..2 toilets bleached.. All this was done before we went on holiday... Gutted we have had to do it all again when feeling so poorly. We both work long hours and this break was supposed to recharge our batteries. Partner has decided to change both front/back door locks next week for both our piece of minds.

By the sounds of it, you’ve no doubt given her covid so…. Karma?!

We are a no-shoes HH too, shoes on my new carpets would upset me so much.

I would actually add this to the list of items to bring up with her. She will lie and say they took their shoes off, but still…

ridiculoso82 · 02/01/2023 15:46

But there was obviously nothing wrong with the carpets because the OP said when they returned nothing seemed wrong

poefaced · 02/01/2023 15:49

It doesn’t matter, you can’t see faecal matter from shoes on carpets, but you know it’s there.

Yes sometimes you may allow someone to walk through with shoes on, like a plumber, but OP’s neighbours have taken that choice from her.

ridiculoso82 · 02/01/2023 15:51

I’m curious how the OP knows they wore shoes!

Headabovetheparakeet · 02/01/2023 16:06

*Goodness did you have a lobotomy?

You went from faffing around on messages with polite “no”s to “flipping” out and shouting at her!*

Yes, because the neighbour ignored her polite 'no' and let people she doesn't know into her house. It's an absolute piss take and if I came home unwell and found out people had been in my house I would probably flip out too.

frazzledasarock · 02/01/2023 16:06

Nobody should have been walking around inside OP’s house full stop.

it doesn’t matter if they disinfected their feet first or tramped through the house in kids caked boots.

nobody should have been making use of the OP’s home in her absence as they did not have permission to.

and good for you OP for letting her have it. The neighbour clearly thought you’d be a walkover. Everyone has their limits look like you hit yours.
