We always walk off lunch up on the moors. We usually see lots of people, dog walkers , children with bikes or rc cars etc.

I’ve been working today but everyone else went for a 5 mile walk with the dogs after lunch and ds did another 4 miles in the morning before lunch. Tired dog’s are definitely easier dogs!

MrsToothyBitch · 25/12/2022 23:08

Not for me as I have a dud ankle & could too easily ruin the day. Plus I do a lot of the prep/work around Xmas and would prefer others go out for a walk instead so I can potter about and sort stuff out.

Each to their own though!

FaazoHuyzeoSix · 25/12/2022 23:16

to walk or not to walk. either is fine. if I've eaten so much I feel queasy then a gentle walk in fresh air helps the digestion. if I am on the edge of losing my rag at ignorant right-wing tabloid invective being asserted as fact by annoying uncles then a walk can help regain my cool. but this year neither of those things happened so I stayed indoors for most of the day. did start with a run at 9ish though and saw several people out walking their dogs. dogs don't care that it's Christmas and need their walks.

Thearex · 25/12/2022 23:18

Yes, love a Christmas Day walk. Lots of 'Merry Christmas's' from strangers, people looking all festive, dogs with Christmas jumpers on & children slightly wobbly on new bikes.

We needed to retrieve my car, which we left at our friend's house on Christmas Eve. So walked all the way there & drove home via MiLs care home for a visit.

We have a walk in the morning and a small one in the evening after dinner x

miniaturepixieonacid · 26/12/2022 00:08

Of course you're not weird!

Everyone with a dog will go for a walk for a start. Plus a good percentage of non dog owners. So quite likely more people who go for a walk than don't, I'd say.

That's like starting a thread to ask if it's weird to have a sandwich at lunch time or if it's weird to put a coat on if you're going outside and it's cold.

Having a sandwich for Christmas dinner is at least somewhat weird.

But if that's your jam, I wouldn't question it - I'd just think "there's someone who really enjoys sandwiches".

Aquarius1234 · 26/12/2022 00:27

I think its a but weird. As tho you can't stay in for two days etc.
I have gone for a walk new years day and find it a little odd. Very busy tho.

Otters

You clearly have no idea how painful movement can be with a broken collarbone.

It was a joke...

I had a greenstick fracture when I was 14. It swelled up quite a lot.

HearMeSnore · 26/12/2022 00:33

No. I'd like to do this, to wake myself up a bit after a heavy lunch and lots of wine. As soon as the TV goes on I find myself nodding.

Sadly DH and DD are averse to leaving the house at all on Christmas Day so if I want to walk I have to do it alone. And I'd rather spend the time with them than without.

SinnerBoy · 26/12/2022 09:18

My DD took the dog for a walk, as I was busy doing the dinner. Last night, I looked at my Fitbit - over 7,000 steps, without leaving the house!

TenzingNorgay · 26/12/2022 16:37

We had a delightful Christmas day walk on the beach and we didn't even need a coat.

RhubarbFairy · 26/12/2022 16:52

We went for a Christmas Day ski! So did a lot of other people. The slopes were busy!
We don't normally go for a walk if we're home though. This is the most active Christmas we've ever had. It's been refreshingly lovely.

Grapewrath · 26/12/2022 17:12

I go out for a walk everyday. Christmas I’ve always gone for a walk even before my dog. I can’t stay in the house all day without feeling agitated.
I don’t think it’s weird if people can’t be arsed either. To each their own.

Ragwort · 26/12/2022 17:38

I had a couple of (shortish) walks on my own yesterday...can't stand a day just cooped up with other people, too much food and drink! And why wouldn't you want to walk on your own Hear unless you live somewhere dodgy. DS had a swim in the sea ... I watched.
Had a longer walk today ... a couple of hours ... DH & DS played golf.
We always went out for a walk on Christmas Day ... would be weird not to unless the weather is shocking.

BarrelOfOtters · 26/12/2022 17:46

I walk every day unless I’m ill I can’t stay in the house all day.

urbansecond · 26/12/2022 17:51

We always go for a walk after eating on Christmas Day. It's quite normal I think, and judging by how many people we see also out for a stroll.
