I went for a run in the morning and various members of the family usually go our for a walk. I hate just sitting down after a big meal. It generally is dark but we like looking at the Xmas lights

Comedycook · 25/12/2022 20:49

I hate going for a walk...feels really pointless and boring. Mind you, I live in suburban London so perhaps I'd enjoy it more in a picturesque place. There are some nice parks near me...but I'm lazy and walking reminds me of lockdown...shudder!!

Floralnomad · 25/12/2022 20:50

Each to their own , I went for two walks today but only because I was taking the dog , I wouldn’t have gone for a walk without the dog .

DwightShrutesGlasses · 25/12/2022 20:53

I took the children out for a walk earlier, coupled it with delivering something to family and looking at some lights nearby. DH stayed home and prepped the lunch. It helped everyone's sanity to be honest and was lovely to be out. It was busy and everyone said hello and happy Christmas 🙂

Horses for courses

I love going for a walk, I can't go far at the minute because of a back problem, so today's Christmas wander was only about a mile. But I do like a good few lungfulls of fresh air every day - today is no different.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 25/12/2022 21:06

I take a walk every day. Now I have a dog, but used to do it before anyway.

Daisychainsandglitter · 25/12/2022 21:06

I go for a brisk walk most days but today I stayed at home. IMO it's not starved to go for a walk on Christmas Day. I wanted to but DD2 wanted me to unwrap and play with her all day so no chance.
I'll definitely be up and out early tomorrow morning before the kids are dressed as staying in drives me a bit mad.
We will also be out and about tomorrow as I find DD2's energy difficult to contain indoors so definitely best to be out and about wearing her out.

Daisychainsandglitter · 25/12/2022 21:07

Unusual not starved!

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 25/12/2022 21:12

I’ve been out twice as we have a dog. Once this morning in my own with him and I saw one family walking presumably to their family’s house with bags of presents in their pjs 😂 and then once tonight with DH and DS and saw one lady walking her dog. We live rurally though so rarely see many people.

AuntieMarys · 25/12/2022 21:13

We did 6 miles this morning.
Probably 5 tomorrow and 8 the day after. Always followed by pub

MargaretThursday · 25/12/2022 21:16

My parents always do, but I've always hated it. It's not on my list of things I like to do on Christmas day.

Lcb123 · 25/12/2022 21:18

Each to their own - but we always have a walk. Boring otherwise, and gives us an appetite!

Taswama · 25/12/2022 21:20

Definitely a tradition in my family growing up and DP's too.
Kids are now old enough to opt and and decided to stay at home instead, but that's fine.

BorgQueen · 25/12/2022 21:34

It’s pretty normal, especially if kids have had bikes / scooters.

It's been a good day. 24 hours holed up in the house trying to play at being jolly and virtuous sounds like an impractical hell to me. The more energy burned outside the better and 17,000 steps is a decent day.

BarrelOfOtters · 25/12/2022 21:45

We always go for a walk Christmas morning…now we have a dog we have to but would anyway.

SnowyGiveAway · 25/12/2022 21:47

I went for a swim in a waterfall this morning! Would have liked a longer walk as the river is just down from my house, but I hate being in all day. DS loves a home day and that's what he got. We're all different

bridgetreilly · 25/12/2022 21:48

It is completely normal, but even if it weren’t, why would it matter what anyone else thought about it?

Chazx · 25/12/2022 21:51

Not at all. I live close to a new huge housing development- nice walks, nice ponds and new build l houses to look at. Went out at 6pm - 3 mile walk.

No- one wanted to come with me and I don't have a dog. Just fancied a stretch and bit of fresh air after a morning of prosecco and chocolate and a huge meal!

KillingLoneliness · 25/12/2022 21:56

YANBU for going for a walk but I do think it’s really weird some people feel they HAVE to go on one specifically on Christmas Day.
I was quite put out when it was suggested to me one year when family came to stay, I politely declined to join them as for me Christmas day is about staying indoors, being all cosy and trying to relax as much as possible in between all the cooking and baking and planning.

UsingChangeofName · 25/12/2022 22:54

Not sure what your AIBU is.

YANBU to go for a walk.
YABU to think it is weird even if you don't want to.

We haven't today, as it happens, but we do sometimes. Varies year to year.
Walks are nice and sociable and get you out in the fresh air.
I was quite surprised at the number of people out running this morning though.

ChicagoBears · 25/12/2022 22:56

Not weird at all, it’s our little ritual to walk off our lovely Christmas lunch.

GuyFawkesDay · 25/12/2022 22:58

Yep, done 2hrs out with the dog.
Escaped the madness this morning after putting turkey in. Escaped in laws for a bit this afternoon.

Dog had his xas jumper on, I had my Santa hat on. It was lovely. And calming. And I didn't feel quite do guilty about the eleventy billion chocs I have eaten

TheaBrandt · 25/12/2022 23:00

No if it’s glorious blue chill yes if it’s dreary grey mug as is today. Surely there is far more fun to be had than trudging about in the drizzle?

Swimmingistoocold · 25/12/2022 23:01

It’s weird going for a walk. Why go for a walk when you can do a parkrun instead?
