Walking is fine.

My gym does a Christmas Day workout and over 50 people were there, including some who’s kids were dragged along and sat at the side on iPad last (I know from insta, not being there, pics from the gym and also “burned my turkey kinda posts”) and I think that’s quite sad tbh. It should be possible to do one day without any structured exercise. We all need rest days and making that fall on Xmas day, especially if you have young kids who want to chill with their toys seems pretty logical to me.

MuggleMe · 25/12/2022 17:08

I took the kids out at 11.30 for an hour to the park while dh finished the lunch. Learnt from previous years that time runs away if we leave it later.

I'd love to but I've no idea how people find the time!

We always go for a walk at 10-ish after breakfast, lunch at about 3pm.

Georgeskitchen · 25/12/2022 17:15

Nothing weird about it at all. Taking a nice bracing walk to work off some of the Xmas Dinner 😉

zurala · 25/12/2022 17:15

I don't understand how anyone has time before it gets dark! I've barely sat down, what with all the opening of presents, food prep, eating food, clearing up etc. I honestly couldn't fit a walk in.

funrunning · 25/12/2022 17:20

It wasn’t something we did as a family when I was growing up and after lunch, everyone would sit around being bored, stuffed and grumpy. DH’s family are Christmas Day walkers so it is our tradition now and it is such a good thing to do. ILs live by the sea and the path above the beach is always packed with Christmas Day walkers.

hellycat · 25/12/2022 17:23

Walks are also useful. Am going to take a bagful of wrapping paper with me on my evening walk and put it into a litter bin. Because it's ten days until my bin is emptied and the recycling men won't take wrapping paper, even recyclable paper, Christmas paper of any description. And without a car to go to the site, quite frankly I don't know what the hell else to do.

Oblomov22 · 25/12/2022 17:24

No. We don't, but it's not wierd.

Dotjones · 25/12/2022 17:24

Yes I always look at people with an eye of suspicion when I've been out for a walk on Christmas Day, usually people fall into three categories - dog enthusiasts, "merry" people heading to/from/between pubs and losers/weirdos like me just walking because they've got nothing better to do. The good thing about Christmas though is other people tend to leave you alone - I've never been abused or harrassed whilst out for a walk on my own on Christmas day, which is always a likelihood on other days of the year.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 25/12/2022 17:28

Wake up.

Stockings.

In laws come over.

Get ready.

Go to my mums.

More presents.

Food.

More presents.

Alcohol.

Alaimo · 25/12/2022 17:29

Yes, it's one of the reasons I enjoy having my Christmas dinner around 5-6pm. Wake up, leisurely breakfast/brunch, presents, go for a walk, back home around 2pm for mulled wine and cheese platter, and then start prepping dinner. Much better use of the few hours of daylight in my opinion.

Whowhatwherewhenwhynow · 25/12/2022 17:30

i need a daily walk. Feel funny if I stay inside all day. Freshens me up for the afternoon

AreOttersJustWetCats · 25/12/2022 17:30

I think it's weird not to. What's the alternative - go a whole day without leaving the house? It doesn't have to be a long walk, but fresh air is needed.

ShakeYourFeathers · 25/12/2022 17:33

Meh we do because the dog needs to stretch its legs. And it's a tradition we do. But it's not my favourite part of the day. It was on the way back from the pub so kind of went with it

ErrolTheDragon · 25/12/2022 17:36

We got out for a walk after Xmas lunch. Some years we don't manage it due to timing or weather but I like to get some fresh air and exercise. Now DD is grown up, a couple of years recently the weather has been much nicer Xmas day than Boxing Day so we've taken a picnic and gone for a proper country walk and had our feast on the 26th - found that there were lots of other people out, all very cheerfully wishing each other merry Christmas.

VivaVivaa · 25/12/2022 17:42

A nice long Xmas day walk is one of the main things I miss about pre-DC Xmas. Still took him out to MILs local park this morning for fresh air and to get nice and hungry for lunch. Can’t imagine being in all day, especially on a day of eating so much!

shinynewapple22 · 25/12/2022 17:42

Sounds perfectly normal to me - although we do have a dog .

maddiemookins16mum · 25/12/2022 16:01

In my 58 years on this earth the only people I know who go for a walk on Christmas Day are
a) Dog owners
b) people on MN.

You must have a very limited social circle. I know lots of people that do and also a fair few that don't. Even some of the ones that don't will walk to the pub for a drink before they cook the big meal.

JemimaPiddleDick · 25/12/2022 17:44

Yeah we took a walk out today, just half an hour, bit of fresh air before we eat

interstatelovesong · 25/12/2022 17:44

I went for a 5k run about 10am. I need to get out on Xmas day or I go stir crazy

TheMadGardener · 25/12/2022 17:44

We've just had a lovely walk on the beach before it got dark. Had to walk off some food before coming back for more. Lots of happy dogs in Santa jackets on the beach.

Mummadeze · 25/12/2022 17:46

I always play tennis with locals just before Xmas lunch. I love it!

It's not obligatory to leave the house every single day y'know!

NoelleSnowman · 25/12/2022 17:48

Yeah, I think it’s weird and a waste of time.

berrycakeandcustard · 25/12/2022 17:52

A walk on Christmas day is a lovely thing to do, it's nice to get out and get some fresh air. It's very relaxing too since everything is closed and most people are inside, it's so much more peaceful than usual.

Hope everyone has enjoyed their Christmas walks today.
Merry Christmas 🎄
