We don’t as we don’t live anywhere near nice walks and I drive so
much for work and days out the rest of the year I refuse to drive Xmas day, but if we lived somewhere near the coast or countryside I d love to do this! I m also struggling with plantar facilitis and can barely walk to the loo but that’s another issue!!

Saltywalruss · 25/12/2022 15:58

Of course it's not weird. Ans, anyway, just because someone is outdoors and walking doesn't necessarily mean that they are "out for a walk". They might actually be on their way somewhere.

ouch321 · 25/12/2022 15:59

That's like starting a thread to ask if it's weird to have a sandwich at lunch time or if it's weird to put a coat on if you're going outside and it's cold.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 25/12/2022 16:01

I voted YABU because YANBU to go for a walk but YABU to care whether anyone thinks it’s weird or not.
If anyone has a view on something as obviously none of their business as that you can safely ignore them.

maddiemookins16mum · 25/12/2022 16:01

In my 58 years on this earth the only people I know who go for a walk on Christmas Day are
a) Dog owners
b) people on MN.

Figgypudding123 · 25/12/2022 16:02

We have a dog, so no brainer. But I like a Christmas Day walk late morning. Bit of fresh air and exercise before a massive dinner and chilling in front of the telly 🙂

CharityShopChic · 25/12/2022 16:02

Well if it's weird, DH and and are weirdoes as we were out this morning. And saw lots of other people out too. Few runners also.

StridTheKiller · 25/12/2022 16:02

Weird not to.

thelobsterquadrille · 25/12/2022 16:02

We went for a walk every single year when I was growing up. We'd take hot chocolate and mince pies and have them halfway round :)

Now as an adult, we have a dog who needs a daily walk so we go out before lunch every year so that he'll sleep all afternoon.

Purpleberet · 25/12/2022 16:05

I thought it’s pretty standard to go for a walk on Xmas day. Personally I hate staying sat in the house all day. we usually eat around 1 watch the speech then have a little walk before coming back for dessert. Now we have a dog we also go for a walk after breakfast.

Nutrigrainygoodness · 25/12/2022 16:06

We went for a walk this morning. So many people out.
It was lovely to get out for an hour. Came back and cracked on with lunch, dd made her Lego and DW edited her photos, and poured me gin 😂

bigbluebus · 25/12/2022 16:06

Just got back from our usual Christmas day 3 mile circuit. We do it every year - unless the weather is really foul. Plenty of dog walkers out and about.

BlackForestCake · 25/12/2022 16:06

Need an opportunity to get rid of the brussels sprout farts in the open air

Changechangychange · 25/12/2022 16:08

Surely you have to go for a walk after Christmas lunch, or you’ll never have any room for Christmas tea?

Same with Boxing Day. You need some exercise to clear the chocolate fog.

Changechangychange · 25/12/2022 16:09

Also don’t your kids go mental if they are in the house all day? Mine is bad enough without any exercise on a good day, add presents and chocolate to the mix and he is literally bouncing off the walls.

welshpolarbear · 25/12/2022 16:10

Yes, we have a dog now so have to go twice but it's so good just to get out of a busy house and get some fresh air after Christmas Dinner.

Glittertwins · 25/12/2022 16:11

Went out for a bit before lunch, off out shortly in the dark with the Christmas lights on the houses near us

ForeverWeBlend · 25/12/2022 16:13

My DH just announced he was going for a walk (I can't - I have a sprained ankle). That's fine says I - take the kids with you, they need some fresh air. Cue grumpy face and annoyed glares.
I'm now sitting here with my feet up, resting my ankle, enjoying the quiet. Ahhhhhhh. So relaxing. Hope he enjoys his walk.

NippyWoowoo · 25/12/2022 16:13

I'm with you OP! A Christmas Walk is not a thing where I'm originally from, I can think of nothing worse! We're still in our pyjamas and will remain so until dinner.

Rinatinabina · 25/12/2022 16:13

Could have really done with a good walk today, I’m a human cheeseboard. Not weird at all either way.

OP is the one who wants to go for a walk!

labazslovesliving · 25/12/2022 16:15

traditional in our family chance to walk off the dinner and let the kids run off their energy

Honeyroar · 25/12/2022 16:15

We live rurally, a mile from a large village. Loads of people have walked past today, with and without dogs.

Omg 😂 I misread the title as ‘TO think going for a walk is weird’, then read the OP as looking around at those walking thinking ‘what are you doing’ as confirming it 😂

I’m not with you OP, I take it back

SilverGlassHare · 25/12/2022 16:23

We haven’t but I don’t think it’s weird to go. It’s pissed down all
day here and DS hasn’t been very well this week, so we stayed in the warm.
