To ask your thoughts on Andrew Tate?

bagthoughts · 25/12/2022 09:06

I went out for dinner recently and all of my nephews aged between 13-26 had a lots of respect for him.

While I agree with a lot of what Andrew Tate says he then has to spoil things with his horrific views on certain topics and I'd go as far as to say some of his points make him dangerous to young men (it concerned me how my nephews really respect him)

What are your thoughts on Andrew Tate?? But also, why do so many respect him in this way when he is so dangerous? Or is it that most people clearly secretly feel this way too?!

He has terrible taste in jumpers.

To ask your thoughts on Andrew Tate?
Foodiebeauty · 25/12/2022 10:49

I think young men like him for 2 reasons:

•They agree with what he says but are too scared to admit it publicly. Tate validates their beliefs and worldview.
•They don’t necessarily agree with what he says, but they like the fact that he is controversial and is not afraid to go against the status quo. He’s seen as ‘rebellious’ and ‘different’, which are both attractive to impressionable minds.

ExtraOnions · 25/12/2022 10:51

“Yes he’s a misogynist .. but apart from that” … so that’s ok then ? Rest of his views are fine ? We just ignore the hatred of women?

it’s like saying, that Hitler “was an anti-Semite … but has a great line in leather shorts” So let’s just focus on the good stuff.

Utter drivel …he revels on the adulation of Incels who can’t get a date, young boys who have had their minds warped by porn, and right-wing bellends

When your nephews / son end up on a rape charge, because they think that’s how you treat women, it’s not “Andrew” who’ll be defending them in court.

Onthegrid · 25/12/2022 10:51

As someone who met him through work before his big brother days when he was just a struggling cage fighter or whatever he claimed to be I can say he was full of bullshit, had the gift of the gab and fooled nobody then. Our company chose not to do business with him or the company he was representing.
I would be steering any sons or nephews well away and telling them some home truths.

bagthoughts · 25/12/2022 10:54

grayhairdontcare · 25/12/2022 10:25

The fact that the young males in your family agree with him, says a lot about the environment your nephews are being brought up in.

@Onthegrid l why was he bullshitting what did he want from the company?

He's a horrible, ignorant wee arsehole. Very offensive views. I would be encouraging more positive role models for your nephews . Less online material perhaps and get them to join their public library. Read some books?

Completely agree

Really have no idea why so many players are making this about my nephews in a sly dig sort of way - as though my nephews are the only 11 billion views ( yes that's how many times his videos have been watched on tiktok) that are influenced by this stuff.

It is not an 'OP nephews problem' - please stop making it such

Yes he is a misogynist but apart from that I find him interesting.

Those two characteristics are mutually incompatible.

@CookieMoolier are you living in 1990? Did you not realise most young people don't really go to libraries and use their phones, audiobooks and kindles?

@Grapewrath thank you. Many posters views on this thread I actually find sad and troubling. How they're on their high horse and missing the actual issues.

Genuinely the reaction to Andrew Tate I find more worrying than Andrew Tate!

But it is about your nephews, because they are the ones … from all those billions of views, that you have the ability to interact with, and maybe influence

Amidoingsomethingwrong · 25/12/2022 11:01

He's grooming people. That's why you like him. OP. You are being groomed like your nephews are

Because you bought your nephew's into it by saying this respect this cretin. So of course people are going to respond regarding your nephew's.

If you don't find it worrysome that young men in your family respect him, you are part of the problem.

bagthoughts · 25/12/2022 11:02

@ExtraOnions I never came on here and said 'help players how do I stop my nephews being Brian washed from Andrew Tate' that wasn't the point of the the thread it was about Andrew Tate in a societal level

OP posts:
bagthoughts · 25/12/2022 11:03

@JusteanBiscuits no you are part of the problem, ignoring the issue on a societal level and making it about my nephews.

As another poster mentioned when the guy has over 11 billion views, surely it's not just those with 'questionable parenting skills' as posters seem to be insinuating that are following him is it????

I think it’s very unfair to blame parenting when young men get indoctrinated by such people. It’s like saying parents are to blame when teenagers are radicalised or join a cult. A lot of teenagers like to rebel against the views of their parents and of the ideals they were brought up with. They think spouting AT makes them look big and clever, when really they look like little dick heads.
Tale as old as time really, teenagers often embrace controversy. AT had a lot of followers- surely not every teenager who liked him had shit parents who brought them up with anti feminist views.

“Players” WTF is that about ?

I’m guessing we have a misogynist in our midst, looking to get a rise out of people.

Probably posting screenshots to an Incel chat room, whilst they all await mummy making their lunch

My nephews aren't into him.

I understand that kids need guidance and suggest that if they're getting it from such an obvious grifter then they are being failed at some level by their family yes.

Same for anyone that gets radicalised

As someone else said. If your post had been "why do so many young men..." But it wasn't. You used a real life situation in your post. So people respond to that real life situation.

If I were at that table, and it were my nephew's, I would have explained to them where the issues are. Discussed why they think discussion of women in such a way is remotely acceptable.

I don't have control of all his followers. But I do have influence on the young men around me.

Is there a great problem? The more we allow young white men to be told they're being hard done by by women, that women are the cause of their issues, the more will believe it. Teen years are a time of questioning. The internet opens up the entire world, and sadly some idiots get way more screen time than they should because it is unregulated. Young men being told "your struggles aren't your fault" will believe that if they have no better influence on their lives. Be that positive influence before they turn into incels.

Orangepolentacake · 25/12/2022 11:11

Honestly tho, how do we keep our sons from becoming the kind of young man that agrees with Andrew Tate?

I have a baby son and me and OH worry a lot about that kind of stuff (also about far right, etc)
