Anyone else got ill right before Xmas?!?!

Thread title for traffic.

It's Christmas Eve, I've bought all the food, wrapped up the presents, arranged to go to FIL for lunch, got the Buck's Fizz on the ready.

At 4.30 am I woke up with uncontrollable shivers, my teeth were chattering and my muscles kept tensing and I couldn't stop it. My head is now pounding, entire body aches. I've somehow managed to hoover and mop in preparation for Xmas. Other half had asked if I'm going to be well enough for tomorrow, I said I have no choice I won't let DD down as she's so excited to see all her cousins, uncles etc.

I'm so fucking pissed off, feeling sorry for myself. I'm due to pick DD up in a few hours as she's with her Grandparents today. I got loads of yummy food and stickers for her, had a lovely evening planned.

Anyone else come down with a last minute cold/flu? It's so fucking typical, I even had my outfit and make up planned. I wanted so badly to make this year really good. Yes I'm feeling incredibly sorry for myself but more so DD as she's going to have a poorly mummy over Xmas.

How do I go about coping over the next 48 hours? Will it be acceptable to slip off for an afternoon snooze at FIL?

Poor you OP, me and my DCs have just gotten over a stomach bug and our appetites back and today my throat is so sore, and feel like a cold is coming.its miserable.

Fingers crossed u feel alot brighter tomorrow. Keep dosing yourself up x

Unananana · 24/12/2022 14:28

I have not been well most of the week buts its ramped up today. Sore throat, fatigue, lost voice and a stupid cough. Not covid though.
So glad I'm not hosting this year.

Wishing you all a swift recovery and a Happy Christmas!

LondonLovie · 24/12/2022 14:31

Sorry to hear. It's so bad this year, lots of people unwell. It's a lottery.

Are you hosting? Everyone who is coming needs to know ASAP in case they choose to stay at home, and need to go and buy emergency food!

familyissues12345 · 24/12/2022 14:33

I haven't been well since last week, had the awful flu that's been going round. Never felt so rough, for so long.

Suffice to say I'm not in the mood for Christmas in the slightest!

lightand · 24/12/2022 14:34

You sound exactly like my DD. To the point I read your post carefully to see if it was her! But she wouldnt have used all the same words as you so it isnt!

And a friend has covid so her xmas is ruined too.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 24/12/2022 14:36

OP, i'm sorry you're ill, I'm in the same boat. But don't be so bloody selfish to go to your inlaws' and pass it on to them. Your other half needs to step up and carry on without you, taking DD to his dad's and leaving you to rest at home. Don't be a martyr, and definitely don't be a martyr who spreads flu/COVID around the family.

Idontdoyoga · 24/12/2022 14:39

Me too! Throat like glass shards. Snotty, congested, coughing. In bed. Been brewing this for a couple of weeks. Fed up big time.

Nocaloriesinchocolate · 24/12/2022 14:39

Yes DH has this awful bug - knocking him out - and now he’s given it to me! We’ve had to cancel going to DS and DIL’s tomorrow. Still, no children in the family so we’ll simply put Christmas off to another day.

Sparkletastic · 24/12/2022 14:40

Other half takes over or you cancel and someone else hosts. You can't spread it around.

Hibye23289 · 24/12/2022 14:44

Yes my son has been poorly and I caught it! I keep napping to try and get better. Cough cold, temperature etc. My mum has had d&v for 14 days running if that makes anyone feel better, literally up all night every night poor thing

Westfacing · 24/12/2022 14:45

Fortunately, regarding timing, I'm just recovering from the lurgy and have been laid low for the past 10 days. Started recovering yesterday and expect to feel half human by Sunday. Again fortunately, I'm not hosting this year!

About 10 years ago Xmas was totally cancelled as I became ill about 2 days before and could barely get out of bed.

I hope you recover soon!

Snoopysimaginaryfriend · 24/12/2022 14:47

Yep. DH and DD have been pretty poorly. I’ve had a cold and woke up today with an ear infection. We are meant to be hosting.

The perfect end to a shitty year

MrsTumblebee · 24/12/2022 14:47

Not I’ll in the traditional sense but my 13 month old cat died very suddenly a few nights ago. It was the most horrific of 10 minutes. And in top of that I reacted to a knee injection 6 weeks ago and Im in awful pain. The painkillers im on are making me feel lousy and I have 3 more weeks till I have a knee replacement due to the injection going wrong. I feel as I I’ve been picked up and slammed against the wall and I’m struggling to stop crying. It’s 6.30 where I am and I'm now back in bed and here I’ll stay till tomorrow when my family have taken over the day and they’ll all be here at my house to do our Christmas .

I hope everyone feels a lot better in a few days.

Notplayingball · 24/12/2022 14:48

DH has diarrhoea so we are staying put and going nowhere. We don't host so nothing lost but will likely be in jammies for most of tomorrow. No heating or hot water as boiler broke down and no engineer available until Boxing Day. It's not quite how we thought Christmas would be, but hey ho... have told family to stay away until things have improved.

Hopefully you feel better tomorrow OP. Try and rest up, get others involved in the prep.

Shadowboy · 24/12/2022 14:49

I had these exact same symptoms yesterday-
thankfully they have almost passed 36 hours later. But yes I was bed
ridden yesterday and now my poor mum who is here for Christmas has caught it and is in bed today

WorriedMillie · 24/12/2022 15:00

OH and I have got influenza B and feel awful.
my mum is on chemo, so is CEV and DD is asthmatic, so we cant mix with them
it’s crap 😭
This year has been behind hideous and I was so looking forward to a peaceful Christmas together

Love to all of the other poorly people 🌸

MrsPutnamNaomiDarling · 24/12/2022 15:04

Stay in bed and OH can take DD to his parents on his own.

saltedpretzel2 · 24/12/2022 15:04

Stay in bed OP.

Don't be selfish and spread it up others.

Christmas cancelled here as we've got covid and feel awful

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 24/12/2022 15:04

Tested positive for Covid 10days ago now negative but still feel awful.
will be a quiet Christmas at home here.

are you relatives happy for you to attend unwell?

tonystarksrighthand · 24/12/2022 15:11

My DC has just thrown up everywhere, 6 times.

FMAL!!!!!!

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 24/12/2022 15:15

I had the lurgy last week, but this week it’s set my asthma off, tried every day for a dr appointment as I’ve been here before and it’s steroids I need, but it’s only got really bad as that overnight.I’ve been waiting since 10 for a 111 call back so they can send a script to boots. No car, so can’t go to urgent care. Boots closes at 5. Looks like I’ll be hammering the inhaler tonight.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 24/12/2022 15:19

My poor boy is sick for the second year running. I feel so sad for him, the poor thing.

Wowzel · 24/12/2022 15:22

Yes , we've cancelled hosting Christmas as i have covid :(

lottie198 · 24/12/2022 15:23

Yes me and my baby have been poorly since Tuesday with the flu. Can hardly move out of bed. So upsetting x

mermaidtail · 24/12/2022 15:24

Luckily I'm not hosting.

I'll play it by ear, if I'm that unwell in the morning they will have to go without me. I can sleep in the day then spend Xmas day evening with them.

Hopefully it's a 24 hours thing and todays the worst of it. I just can't get over the typicalness of it all.
