Anyone else got ill right before Xmas?!?!

Thread title for traffic.

It's Christmas Eve, I've bought all the food, wrapped up the presents, arranged to go to FIL for lunch, got the Buck's Fizz on the ready.

At 4.30 am I woke up with uncontrollable shivers, my teeth were chattering and my muscles kept tensing and I couldn't stop it. My head is now pounding, entire body aches. I've somehow managed to hoover and mop in preparation for Xmas. Other half had asked if I'm going to be well enough for tomorrow, I said I have no choice I won't let DD down as she's so excited to see all her cousins, uncles etc.

I'm so fucking pissed off, feeling sorry for myself. I'm due to pick DD up in a few hours as she's with her Grandparents today. I got loads of yummy food and stickers for her, had a lovely evening planned.

Anyone else come down with a last minute cold/flu? It's so fucking typical, I even had my outfit and make up planned. I wanted so badly to make this year really good. Yes I'm feeling incredibly sorry for myself but more so DD as she's going to have a poorly mummy over Xmas.

How do I go about coping over the next 48 hours? Will it be acceptable to slip off for an afternoon snooze at FIL?

Please don't go spreading that around to your family

Half the country seems on its arse this Christmas unfortunately

Ursuladevine · 24/12/2022 15:27

No thank goodness

I’m a single parent with no family network. So would be dire

strawberriesarenot · 24/12/2022 15:32

I've had covid, but this flu thing is worse. Thought I was through the other side today, got up for an hour and collapsed. Back in horrible spare room trying not to infect people. Not looking forward to tomorrow at all.

I had the lurgy last week, but this week it’s set my asthma off, tried every day for a dr appointment as I’ve been here before and it’s steroids I need, but it’s only got really bad as that overnight.I’ve been waiting since 10 for a 111 call back so they can send a script to boots. No car, so can’t go to urgent care. Boots closes at 5. Looks like I’ll be hammering the inhaler tonight.

When you speak to them, ask where the emergency cover pharmacy is for your area.

ExhaustedFlamingo · 24/12/2022 16:25

I’ve woken up today with the most bizarre (and quite bad) dizziness. I don’t know what’s happened or why it’s come on. It’s so bad I feel sick and I’ve had to hold onto the wall for support while sitting on the end of the bed!!!

Is this the start of a bug?? My stomach is sore and I have no appetite.

It’s just appeared out of the blue. No snottiness of fever etc, just a tender stomach and insane dizziness. I’m so confused!!

OhmygodDont · 24/12/2022 16:30

Dh got hit by this Thursday. He was cold but was actually like a fire ball. I swear his hand could have melted a palm print on me. Awake all night, last night again claiming he was freezing with two blankets and the duvet but was actually clammy hot. I figured it was because he had just come off antibiotics and maybe it hadn’t cleared the infection but maybe not.

Merryclaire · 24/12/2022 16:35

Yes came down with the lurgy yesterday 😩
Was worried Christmas would be cancelled but thankfully I feel a little better now so fingers crossed.
Hope everyone feels well enough to enjoy the festivities.

mermaidtail · 24/12/2022 17:58

My partner has gone to buy a lump of meat & some gravy incase I'm too sick to go to his dads tomorrow, he said he doesn't want to go without me so we can have a quiet Xmas the 3 of us. I did say don't be silly I'll be fine but he's adamant.

I've actually started to feel dizzy, didn't help DD had a tantrum when I picked her up. She's bathed, happy in front of a Disney film. I'm waiting on DP then will have the worlds hottest bath

Happy Christmas everyone xxx

Its my sons first christmas as hes 9 months old and the last christmas in our first home as moving next year.
On Wednesday, my son got chicken pox which has gone round his mouth so looks awful. Not seeing my niece or nephew now so they dont catch it.
To top it off, get woken up at 5am this morning to the sound of my husband throwing up.

I was so excited for christmas and now i feel like its doomed.

nova99 · 24/12/2022 19:00

I've spent so much time carefully planning December, with North Pole breakfasts, December boxes bursting with homemade craft activities and hosting much missed family. I got DC lovely advent calendars and a gingerbread house kit. I'd ordered food from M&S, bought all my gifts and was so excited.

What actually happened in December was family member getting seriously ill, they were helping us out with school runs and couldn't do them. Had to take lots of unplanned leave to cover for this and ended up getting a warning from work.
December box had a couple of bath bombs and some scarce craft bits I could get from home bargains. The gingerbread house remains in the cupboard untouched as honestly I've only had the mental capacity to get through the day.
Family that we're coming to stay caught covid and are no longer coming, I needed emergency dental work this week which I had to get a loan for and meant I couldn't eat on the ONE DAY DH and I had a spare couple of hours to grab a lunch together.
I'm now incredibly poorly with what appears to be full blown flu, our Xmas eve plans are down the drain, the kids have been bickering non stop and I've not had the strength to stop them.
They have both gone to bed early as they have been foul to us and each other. The 3 year old is screaming that she isn't tired and is crying non stop, my DH is at his wits end having had to do all the last minute shopping, nursery drop offs, cooking, cleaning and festive stuff because I've been so out of it.

To top it off the Etsy seller I got a gift from is saying my item has been delivered, the tracking advice says different and I've certainly not had it so DH doesn't have much to unwrap. It's just more hassle.

This is very far from the Xmas I prepared for or wanted and I feel sad about it.

It would appear a hell of a lot of people are cancelling and changing plans this year due to illness, train disruptions etc.

I only hope there's lots of people out there getting a lovely Christmas free from illness and other such rubbish!

tonystarksrighthand · 24/12/2022 15:11

My DC has just thrown up everywhere, 6 times.

FMAL!!!!!!

Ours too... We were at the in-laws but they're also due to host my Sil and her DH plus their two kids and great granddad who is in his 90s... So we've packed up the car again and come home. Typically DD is now bouncing around like nothing is wrong!

Festivez · 24/12/2022 19:15

Yep first it was my DD she had to have antibiotics and then I started to feel poorly on Friday and my DS had to be seen by Drs late Friday and he's now having to have antibiotics as well bless.
DH is also feeling unwell hate colds at the best of time but it sure does suck to be unwell over the Christmas break.

Dontsparethehorses · 24/12/2022 19:22

Yep - been feeling worse every day since finished work on wed. Tested positive for covid today. All plans off. Will just be 4 of us. At least we are now home and have everything we need. Going to bunker down and hope to get better soon…

Favouritefruits · 24/12/2022 19:38

My Mum became really poorly yesterday and she had people arriving to stay for the whole weekend, I feel really sorry for her she sounded awful, it’s not as if you can turn people away at Christmas either.

Worriedmama23 · 24/12/2022 19:41

Dose yourself up mama you can do this ! Sending lots of healing wishes your way x

You really can.

gluteustothemaximus · 24/12/2022 19:55

Been in bed with flu all week, didn't get to finish off last minute xmas prep, still feel shite even now, and now despite everyone else seeming ok, now DH is coughing and DS2 has a temp of 103, DD now saying she feels rough...

So we're all going to be ill for Christmas. Again.

stbrandonsboat · 24/12/2022 20:15

I haven't felt great for a good couple of weeks with sore throat and earache, but not severe. Had covid jab last Monday and feel progressively unwell with chills, limb pain, nausea, weakness, dizziness and an awful tiredness. Temperature slightly raised, but nothing bad. Not proper unwell, but not well either. If I was proper ill I could just go to bed, but I just sound whingy at the moment and I think dh thinks I'm just being awkward.

Thepeopleversuswork · 24/12/2022 20:19

Yes I’ve been really fucking sick for five days, today is the first day out of bed and DP has gone down with it now. Merry fucking Christmas.

I have got to the age of 50 without being ill at Christmas so it was overdue but I still feel pissed off. Not least because just as I am recovering DP is now too ill to help with the meal.

Lolacat1234 · 24/12/2022 20:22

Us here too - I had a stomach bug so generously passed to me by DD, that came on Tuesday eve and took me out all of Wednesday. Then Thursday woke up with a sore throat and now have the mother of all colds, one just morphed into the other. Commiserations.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 24/12/2022 20:24

Yes, I had just kicked the ENDLESS cold I picked up at half term and now I have gone down with an even nastier one, complete with chills and aches. And I just have to continue with everything while apologising for the snot and coughing Sad. I love Christmas and I really could have done without this right now.

33goingon64 · 24/12/2022 20:24

I had flu like you describe the whole of last week, only just better now. There's no way I'd have been mixing with people even if it was Christmas - no-one wants your germs. I wouldn't have felt like it anyway.

MissConductUS · 24/12/2022 20:24

All four of us got covid in the last week, so that's Christmas scuppered here.

TheMumLife3 · 24/12/2022 20:24

Yes! I ended up in hospital early hours Tues morning with hyperemesis on baby #4. I was screened for covid and flu and came back positive for influenza a and its only now starting to peak and that's after having anti-virals given too.

SerenaB12 · 24/12/2022 20:31

Yep, earache, sore throat, generally feeling shite. What a way to end off the worst year ever.
Sorry for everyone else who is unwell.
