Anyone else got ill right before Xmas?!?!

Thread title for traffic.

It's Christmas Eve, I've bought all the food, wrapped up the presents, arranged to go to FIL for lunch, got the Buck's Fizz on the ready.

At 4.30 am I woke up with uncontrollable shivers, my teeth were chattering and my muscles kept tensing and I couldn't stop it. My head is now pounding, entire body aches. I've somehow managed to hoover and mop in preparation for Xmas. Other half had asked if I'm going to be well enough for tomorrow, I said I have no choice I won't let DD down as she's so excited to see all her cousins, uncles etc.

I'm so fucking pissed off, feeling sorry for myself. I'm due to pick DD up in a few hours as she's with her Grandparents today. I got loads of yummy food and stickers for her, had a lovely evening planned.

Anyone else come down with a last minute cold/flu? It's so fucking typical, I even had my outfit and make up planned. I wanted so badly to make this year really good. Yes I'm feeling incredibly sorry for myself but more so DD as she's going to have a poorly mummy over Xmas.

How do I go about coping over the next 48 hours? Will it be acceptable to slip off for an afternoon snooze at FIL?

Covid here too, Merry Christmas to all in the same boat x

pursudebyablackdog · 24/12/2022 20:47

Yep, we've postponed Christmas as I'm in a really bad way, it's seems to have belted my sinuses, I can honestly say I've never been in so much pain (Even German measles in my 20s wasn't this bad!)
Constant running hot then cold, and paracetamol just not touching it. I don't know if it's just a really severe cold or flu (had flu jab back in October though). Testing negative for covid.
Dc have been so good about not getting stockings or Christmas presents tomorrow,

earsup · 24/12/2022 20:50

Yes...often get ill at this time....woke up yesterday feeling awful, most of day in bed and now ache and feel all snotty and sinus blocked etc...my 2 friends come over for dinner each year so it will go ahead but a bit later.....

purpledalmation · 24/12/2022 20:59

I've been crappy all week so all prep has gone to pot. Will just about get dinner done tomorrow and then back to bed. Fed up too.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/12/2022 21:04

My friend really isn't well. He's the main celebrant at midnight mass in oh cathedral tonight. I suggested that he give it a miss. But he's adamant he'll be ok. 🤔🙄🤧😷

TheYearOfSmallThings · 25/12/2022 00:29

Oh for fuck's sake. Now I've got fucking snot coming out of my fucking eye.

kissmelittleass · 25/12/2022 00:43

Me I've been not been well since Tuesday with my stomach and since Friday it's got worse it's on and off with my stomach and I've had diarrhoea and pains on off in my stomach with nausea Xmas Eve
Now into Xmas day my tummy feels winded and I feel nauseous again, light headed and I feel like I have to go toilet again diarrhoea wise but happening at the minute
Must be some sort of stomach bug but no one else in house has it
Right now I feel weak light headed out of it and my tummy is sore
Please god let it be better this will be my second Xmas not well otherwise

InfluenzalA · 25/12/2022 00:43

I'm in hospital :(

Been in all week with this flu and subsequent infections. Poor DH has also been ill but is at home with dc, powering on, trying to follow my instructions re where I've hidden things etc. All DC are at various stages of cough/cold/temp/ear pain.

Absolute disaster. I feel so ill the disappointment hasn't really kicked in yet.

kissmelittleass · 25/12/2022 00:44

Excuse my bad grammar I just feel really shaky at the moment

Justellingthetruth · 25/12/2022 01:00

Postponed Christmas because you’re ill and you have children? Why??

maybe I come at this differently because I’m a single parent but “postpone” Christmas strikes me as a very peculiar response if you have children. To not even have their stockings? Why the heck can’t they just open them in your bedroom floor? And your partner cook. Cobble something together at least.

TheChosenTwo · 25/12/2022 07:34

Dh has had the super cold that’s been doing the rounds but aside from that we’re okay.
He’s been left with a lingering cough and the occasional sneezing fit. We are hosting today but 2 of our guests came down with Covid yesterday, I’ve made everyone else coming fully aware of dh’s cough and sneezing so they could make a decision on whether they wanted to come or not, they all want to.
sorry to everyone with ruined Christmas plans, it’s so shit when you plan and work hard to create something lovely for your family and it doesn’t work out for whatever reason.

KangarooKenny · 25/12/2022 07:38

I started with a slight sore throat on Wednesday and Thursday, knew I was coming down with something Friday, Saturday was full on cough/sore throat/hot and cold/clammy/ feeling crap if I tried to do anything. Last night my heart was pounding out my chest.
DS had bronchitis recently and I think I might have caught it.

HashtagShitShop · 25/12/2022 07:47

Yep, visited family who live away at the start of the week. Despite asking them if all were well prior to the visit, all three kids were full of cold. All babies/toddlers so close contact and now full of cold and have been for the last 3 days slowly getting worse.

Ugh. Sods law.

Merry chrismas all x

MrsWidgerysLodger · 25/12/2022 07:53

DD spent all day yesterday throwing up. I've woken up with a stinking cold. DH has a migraine. Thinking of delaying the whole thing for 24 hours!

Purpleskies46 · 25/12/2022 16:28

How did everyone get on?

Heresme33 · 25/12/2022 16:35

Tested positive for covid on Friday which means i am having a lovely peaceful quiet Christmas absolutely perfect.

mummabear2023 · 25/12/2022 16:43

DD (3) woke at 11pm last night with a raging temperature, shivering and generally just full of cold. Thankfully DH and I are okay so far and we were just having Christmas the three of us but poor DD has been miserable all day except for a short time while opening her prezzies this morning. Early night ok the cards for us all I think! Hoping she is a bit better for going to mums for Christmas celebrations tomorrow.

WhenAllTheCowsAreSleeping · 25/12/2022 17:06

Yes DH came down with norovirus at midnight

scooobie · 25/12/2022 17:13

Sympathy, I started feeling rotten late on the 23rd. Family already here from another country so they can’t exactly leave. I’m trying to carry on as normal, while coughing up my lungs. Dosing up on paracetamol but I really want to drink alcohol. DH is as much use as a chocolate teapot. Rest of family keep telling me how concerned they are but do nothing to help.

Christmas dinner just about killed me and I’m in the bath in our en suite now trying to relax. Although it’s hard as we’ve no lock and I keep worrying about my In laws barging in! Even though I’ve informed them I am in here.

HelpIcantfindaname · 25/12/2022 18:36

I hope you felt well enough to enjoy your Christmas.

I ended up in hospital yesterday. I've been on chemo since August & not had any infections. Yesterday I suddenly got the shivers, my whole body was shaking loads & my temp shot up. DH rang the chemo helpline & they admitted me. I had loads of blood tests, swabs, an ecg & an xray. They put me straight on intravenous antibiotics. They said I needed 5 more of those 6 hours apart so I'd be in till Boxing day.

I've never spent Christmas away from my 14yr old DD. She is autistic & wasn't handling the changes well. We lost my dad in October & my mam had to go in a home as she has Alzheimers. I was meant to be picking her up this morning. There was only mam & my adult DS joining us for dinner.

My DH was just about to leave the hospital when the doctor came back & said I could go home on oral antibiotics. The nurses had been asking why they were keeping me when they knew by then I wasn't neutropenic . And the nurses also knew I wouldn't have even seen DD today if I stayed in as under 16s are not allowed on the chemo ward.

I was so happy to get home & DD said it was her best present. DH has done everything - put presents out last night, picked mam up, cooked dinner. I'm so lucky to have him.

I'm still not feeling great & feel bad as I'm not up to playing the game DD wants to play. My other DDs & grandchildren were meant to call in tonight but that's been postponed.

So not quite the day we had planned, but at least I was here.

L1ttledrummergirl · 25/12/2022 18:54

Yep.

I don't tolerated antibiotics but have a condition which means I sometimes need some heavy duty ones meaning I'm generally sleeping, or in the toilet with d&v.

Although I finished them a couple of days ago, I now have some temporary nerve damage meaning I am in constant pain and don't know if my legs are going to work or give way and am so dosed up on pain relief it's ridiculous.

I did some prep work yesterday but dh has been fucking amazing and we've had a lovely day. My dc are all adults now and they've all helped to make today a success and look after me though.

NosyNeighbour22 · 25/12/2022 20:15

I was ok yesterday but woke up today with a sore chest/ throat which developed into a cough over the course of the day. Now got home from my mums with a fever/chills trying to get 3 over tired dc into bed so I can get into bed and sleep. I have to work tomorrow too and I can’t get out of it no matter how sick I am.. the joys of being self employed.

Ive not had flu for years and years so just typical I would get it today. been a completely shitty year, now first Xmas on my own with the kids 😭
