Rishi disappearing act

As he is our pm I thought we would have heard more from him considering all the strikes and current mess of the country. I’ve heard one statement from him saying he feels bad for the disruption over Xmas and that’s it. AIBU to think he should be trying to sort this mess out or is he quietly working away in the background?

Marina Hyde’s piece on our driverless government might as well have been your prompt OP: www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/dec/23/rishi-sunak-government-prime-minister?CMP=share_btn_tw

oreste · 24/12/2022 13:29

It doesn't particularly surprise anyone because that is exactly what you would expect him to say! Just like when he could not handle his dog on the steps of Downing Street, dropped the decorations for the tree, served the wrong tables at the chain restaurant. Other than sitting down and studying his socks off and focusing on perfecting his career path, I don't think he has had to do anything routine or practical in his whole life (and his wife even less so).

He certainly made his views about mixing with other classes very clear as was caught on video as well as his views about funding poor areas.

Oh - so when the man said; 'I am interested in business - I like finance, it's good for the city' you decided he wasn't really worth having a conversation with - he was just a 'poor person' who needed to be processed as quickly as possible? Next please!

He could have asked what he likes about it or which areas he's interested in rather than the cringe-inducing "do you work in finance?"

I stand by my earlier comment, you will do anything to justify the continued bumbling of this government.

Clavinova · 24/12/2022 13:34

How do you know the man's background? He may have gone on to say he lost his business during the pandemic etc.

MrsMurphyIWish
but surely “do you know places where you go to get support this weekend?” is a more empathetic question

That sounds condescending to me - to someone who has just said they have an interest in finance and the city.

You’re quite literally putting words in that posters mouth and then deciding you’ve proved a point??

Sunak didn't say that at all.

oreste · 24/12/2022 13:37

It is true that we could still have had Liz Truss. However, it has been a while since she left and that value of that argument is dwindling.

He is the consummate banker-turned-career politician

Just like Macron.

I'm not sure if you noticed but this thread is about Rishi Sunak not Macron or anyone else.

Some extremely wealthy people ( a minority) might be able to empathise with the other 99.999% of the population. Sunak is clearly not one of them.

His style of communication is more suited to a public school debating society.

Only 4 and even one of those is set in just 12 acres..... #improverished

Why does the UK prime minister have to be impoverished? Is Biden impoverished? Macron? Blair?

Sorry... didn't realise the people you name are in UK Govt.. my bad.

Sunak is out of touch and as for having a financial background... he is the idiot that kept house prices high with a duty holiday, billions on eat out to help out.. wrote of billions on business support loans and signed off dodgy PPE deals... he is a fucking fool, who even now.. is giving us ALL rich or poor billions in energy support.. including him.

With a targeted energy support package, which OECD is saying we should have.. we would have money to pay nurses and halt the the numbers leaving... but oh no! not his money or his health.. doesn't care.

That's me told.

Oh that’s alright then, makes your use of something that you’ve accused others of completely justified.

Let’s all deal in hyperbole and bollocks! Yay!

Frabbits · 24/12/2022 14:00

He's a tory.

He doesn't give a fuck about the strikes. He's daddy's rich boy playing at politics.

You could have fooled me. Why are Rishi's father-in-law, Johnson, Truss, Bill Gates, Braverman, Hunt, Rees-Mogg, Starmer (and Macron) mentioned up thread?

Cornettoninja
Either way I don’t really see what relevance Macrons credentials have in British politics

Don't you? You mentioned Macron on this thread before I did.

Anyway, I have last minute shopping to do...
I see some of you have already started on the Christmas sherry...

Iam4eels · 24/12/2022 14:05

He literally doesn't give a shit because he does t have to live with any of rbe consequences of his decisions. Once he gets bored of Let's Play: PM Edition, he can just pick up all his toys and fuck off back to America (where he had green card status and was a recognised "permanent resident" despite being Chancellor of the UK).

Blossomtoes · 24/12/2022 14:07

Good luck with that shopping Clav, the shops will be carnage.

Cornettoninja · 24/12/2022 14:22

What?? My reference to conversations between him and Sunak at a summit of international leaders that Sunak initially dismissed as not worthy of his time is the same as making CV comparisons?

Your comparison still has no value and was utterly random. As I’ve clearly missed it, what was your point? Or do you just react to random names in any context if they’re mentioned?

greenhousegal · 24/12/2022 14:24

Better to Remain Silent and Be Thought a Fool than to Speak and Remove All Doubt.

NellieJean · 24/12/2022 14:27

After an open and transparent recruitment process he has today appointed his best friend from school, best man and godfather to one of his children James Forsyth as a special adviser so he has been doing something.
Just not something useful.

Roussette · 24/12/2022 14:40

That clip of Sunak was beyond embarrassing. I hope it comes back to bite him on the arse.

The homeless guy was articulate and totally switched on to the ridiculousness and lack of empathy. 'What you doing this weekend?'... like he was talking to some friend of his in the Garrick Club.
'Hoping to find somewhere to sleep' was the basis of the answer.

Is this the best our country can do? Where is the empathy, sympathy and awareness of what a homeless guy in a homeless shelter is going through.

"You've been here before? It's a great place isn't it?"
Like he goes there for fun as opposed to out of necessity.

What have we become as a country. It just gets worse and worse and worse.

EggyBread · 24/12/2022 14:47

Wow that clip is unbelievably cringe! 😬 perhaps rishi can get the guy a job….

Husband to Allegra Stratton, the previous Press Secretary who was pressured into resigning over Partygate.

Same old Tories, same old backhanded sleaze.

Roussette · 24/12/2022 14:51

Sunak could sort that bloke out with absolutely zero effect on him. I do wonder what sort of giving he does. Apart from £100,000 to his old private school Winchester College.
Oh hang on... he donated his £400 energy rebate to charity. Gosh! Hope he can afford it out of his £800million fortune!

I'm sure a decent PR person would have told Sunak not to go at all.

btw I can't hear exactly what Steve says when he first mentions "business". It's when he gets the cutlery isn't it? Is he saying to Sunak "trying to turn this into a business?"

Ilovetea33 · 24/12/2022 15:35

Also, he was holding up the line with his waffling while that poor bloke's breakfast was getting cold.
