Rishi disappearing act

As he is our pm I thought we would have heard more from him considering all the strikes and current mess of the country. I’ve heard one statement from him saying he feels bad for the disruption over Xmas and that’s it. AIBU to think he should be trying to sort this mess out or is he quietly working away in the background?

And not because Boris was more in the public eye but he did seem more empathetic to things again I know most would disagree with me.

@Iam4eels agreed he is a weak pm and seems so out of touch. Even if he doesn’t mean to everything he says comes across as smug and fake. May not be popular opinion but I actually preferred Boris!

Some might prefer Boris still, actually polls say many do but Sunak is slightly ahead of Starmer on personal ratings

LizBuin · 24/12/2022 10:12

He’s busy playing hide and seek with my local MP

Hintofreality · 24/12/2022 10:12

He’s busy being a full time billionaire.

Ilovemycatalot · 24/12/2022 10:13

Re strikes I think there is a middle ground that could be met. But I don’t think rishi even wants that conversation.

Boris empathetic? I’ve heard it all now. Most of the problems this county is dealing with is because the people were taken in by this charlatan.

MavisMcMinty · 24/12/2022 10:13

He’s very busy putting the jumps away after pony club.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 24/12/2022 09:26

Isn't he working on 'tough new legislation' to deal with strikes?

That'll be interesting as civil servants are the ones who draft the policies and they've voted for strike action too!

Iam4eels · 24/12/2022 10:15

He could actually sit down and talk with the unions instead of waffling on about being "sad and disappointed". That would be a start.

I once read him described as a posh person cosplaying as an MP during his gap year and it sums him up perfectly. Its like he's so rich and bored that he's decided to go play at having a job.

Dotjones · 24/12/2022 10:17

I thought his position was quite clear, the strikers' demands are unaffordable. There's no point discussing it further with them. Better he concentrate on ending damaging strikes in the medium to long term by implementing legislation than focus on the current ones that he can't solve in the short term.

Ideally strikes should only be legal if the unions organising them can guarantee that service levels won't be affected, and they are held accountable (including serious prison time for organisers and participants) if service suffers.

icelolly12 · 24/12/2022 10:18

Quite glad he's not darkening my screen with meaningless platitudes.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 24/12/2022 10:23

He's been visibly busy, should you but look. Soup kitchens, union meetings, UN meetings etc. Quite a few local and national TV appearances on areas of local importance.

And no, not a Tory voter.

LadyKenya · 24/12/2022 10:30

Boris was the most selfish, lazy, lying PM this Country has most likely ever had.

Boris would have got this solved months ago

Hahahahahahaha!

No he wouldn't have.

He'd have waffled on about totally unrelated subjects, thrown in a few metaphors and soundbites, then fucked off on a month long Christmas holiday.

PifandHercule · 24/12/2022 10:35

@CaponeOnTax This!

Saturdaydreamingway2355555 · 24/12/2022 10:36

I think you misunderstand the purpose of strikes.

Rishi can't govern because the Conservative Party as it stands is ungovernable. He can't reconcile the disparate groups within it. All he can do is bumble on trying not to completely wreck the economy (a la Truss) and letting Braverman be loudly obnoxious about asylum seekers.

No, he would have talked a lot, whilst saying nothing of any real value whatsoever. And then he would have blamed the Labour party.

oreste · 24/12/2022 10:38

He's been busy baking cookies! 🙄

LikeTearsInRain · 24/12/2022 10:38

He got Brexit done why wouldn’t he get the pay deals done?

RudeElfTheRainDear · 24/12/2022 10:41

I think he's going for the 'better to keep quiet and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and be known to be one' tactic.

He's at least self aware enough to know that he'll fuck uo anything he tries to say. Which is more than the last PM I suppose.

Ilovemycatalot · 24/12/2022 10:42

Sadly this country has pretty much gone to shit. Maybe accepting this would lead to less disappointment.
