No pigs in blankets

I thought we were ready for Christmas but I have just realised we have no pigs in blankets. I thought I had some frozen bought ahead but there are none in the freezer.
AIBU to send DS out for them and if he doesn't go, manage without?

Get some sausages, chipolatas or not, doesn't matter, and streaky bacon to wrap round them. Sorted! If you want to order online deliveries, the co-op is very good for odd things, as is Iceland.

NIGHTMARE

Can’t you just go to the shop tomorrow and get some? Why the drama? I’ve still got a long list of stuff I need to get from Tesco in the morning.

I buy pigs in blankets as soon as they start popping up in the shops regularly, and bung them in the freezer. However this can lead to the current situation in our house, where we appear to have 52 pigs in blankets... for the three of us.

I may also accidentally have bought a pack of Footlong Pigs in Blankets in Lidl this afternoon!

We have 70! For 4 of us (but really 3 as I'm veggie)

DS3 loves them though so will live off them for the next week.

JustAnotherManicMomday · 23/12/2022 21:23

I would be hung if I forgot them by my lot.

QueenBeex · 23/12/2022 21:31

Your Christmas is over without.

Willmafrockfit · 23/12/2022 21:34

i have just tried 3 supermrkets for elusive crackers for cheese, walnuts, in their shells, and mince pies.

i have walnuts!
i am happy

custardbear · 23/12/2022 21:39

Make your own with pork sausages and streaky ... you'll find that in most butchers / shops of any use

pilates · 23/12/2022 21:42

I would be gutted tbh and would get up early tomorrow and get some.

Daddydog · 23/12/2022 21:53

They are the best bit! Partner bought a very sad looking pack of 8 last year (for 4 people)... God knows what she was thinking as I try sneak at least 6 while no one is looking. As you can imagine, Christmas was ruined - totally unsalvageable. So this year I did the big shop and bought 40. Even now I still worry it's not enough...

MistyGreenAndBlue · 23/12/2022 22:13

I wouldn't be bothered but DH would go into immediate mourning.

On balance. Yes get some.

we have 102 for four of us 🙄 My kids (they are all teen/adult) insisted I bought more on my last shop.

I have absolutely no intention of cooking anywhere near that number and plan to leave a lot of them in the freezer for the next roast chicken I do. They have plans for "pigs in blankets" sandwiches (which, to be fair, sound amazing!)

Anyway, there were loads in my Sainsburys on Tuesday.

BaileySharp · 23/12/2022 23:01

If they are out buy some chipolatas and bacon and make them yourself? I couldn't skip pigs in blankets at Christmas!

Pelo22 · 23/12/2022 23:11

My local chippy is doing giant battered pigs in blankets along with battered mince pies

Yes, I am up north Grin

Can I move in with you, please? I am house trained and always bring wine.

So is mine! I'm in Norfolk though and haven't tried them though, maybe next year I will 🤫

UseAMuckySock · 23/12/2022 23:33

Christ just go buy some in morning if you want them 🙄

anon666 · 23/12/2022 23:43

Watching with interest, am in the same boat. I don't like them but others do. But I doubt they are that bothered.....

Pterrydactyl · 23/12/2022 23:45

The shops near me have had loads of pigs in blankets on the shelves. Stacks of them still on the shelves in our local shop when I popped in earlier this evening.

Just go first thing in the morning.

I tried buying some ahead this year, but DH ate the ones I’d put in the freezer. Several times.

Pelo22 · 23/12/2022 23:45

@PonyPatter44 Grin it's a fairly new chip shop, you can even pick what salt (maldon/garlic/lemon) and the chips are double fried beef dripping

DixonD · 24/12/2022 00:37

Don’t you make your own? I’d never dream of buying them readymade; that’s up there with buying diced onions or carrot batons.

Had these yesterday and I’m as south U.K. as you can get!

Dougieowner · 24/12/2022 00:56

Chatting with my sister about this earlier today.
Growing up in the 70's my parents always went all out at Christmas and the food available was completely over the top but neither of us can remember sausages wrapped in bacon.
Is it a recent or American thing?

When I was at school I worked part-time in the local butchers shop (cleaning, mincing etc) and they didn't do them either, in fact they didn't do cocktail sausages at all. Full sized sausages and slabs of sausagemeat aplenty but not the baby ones.

FatOaf · 24/12/2022 01:05

American pigs in a blanket are completely different things from British pigs in blankets. First recipe for the British version seems to have been published in the 1950s but they were popularised by Delia Smith in the 90s.

I'm not British so I don't personally care about pigs in blankets. But, on the assumption that you need them, I'd do a run to Tesco first thing, before your shower, then you'll be home and sorted before the madness restarts.

Such specific advice - made me smile.

op I haven’t got any of the Christmas lunch bought yet. I’ll go on Christmas Eve as I often do. Furthermore I don’t have a working oven. Hoping to get that tomorrow too.

also I haven’t wrapped the presents. Also I have a few more to buy. Also I have one child with a vomiting bug so don’t know what the future holds for the rest of us.

funnily enough what I do have is four packs of pigs in blankets in the freezer! Nothing else for Christmas though.
