AIBU to not wrap stocking presents?!?

I never had presents in my stocking wrapped when I was a kid so I’ve just done the same with my own children, never occurred to me to do any different.

However my husband just asked me when we were going to wrap the stocking presents? Apparently he always had his stocking presents wrapped as a kid.

Have I been doing it wrong all these years?!? Our oldest is 7 so not sure why husband has never mentioned it before but I’m now thinking it might be nice if we did, it would certainly slow down the stocking opening and give us a bit more time in bed!

I’m interested to see whats the norm? Do you wrap or not?!?

YANBU = Unwrapped
YABU = wrapped

Not a chance would I waste my time (and wrapping paper) wrapping presents that are going in a stocking and can't be seen anyway.

jtaeapa · 22/12/2022 18:43

Personally I wrap as it’s a bit more fun to open.

LeadingStar · 22/12/2022 18:44

Unwrapped as they were unwrapped when I was a child. I can see that it might be nice to wrap them but then I think of the planet and whether I can face any more wrapping and decide that putting them in the stocking as they are is exciting enough.

YABU! The crinkling of a stocking full of wrapped presents is one of the best things about Christmas.

SummerHouse · 22/12/2022 18:44

I mean, it's all pretty strange and wasteful but I always wrap everything. Not feeling the magic of Christmas today for some reason. I need to watch Elf I think.

But I am still #TeamWrap

I know a few people who don't wrap but it sounds a bit boring to me! The fun is in the unwrapping isn't it?

WeDontNeedToTalkAboutJamie · 22/12/2022 18:46

The stocking is the wrapping.

User135792468 · 22/12/2022 18:46

Always unwrapped. Our stockings are full of edibles and little bits and bobs.

BabyYoZenZen · 22/12/2022 18:48

In the Peppa pig episode they have them unwrapped too!

Thehawki · 22/12/2022 18:49

I always got mine unwrapped! If he wants to wrap them and you have enough wrapping paper he can always do it himself 🤷‍♀️

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 22/12/2022 18:50

We wrap ours because it's gives us another half an hour in bed 🤣

KilmordenCastle · 22/12/2022 18:50

I never had wrapped stocking presents as a kid and I've never wrapped them for my kids. Stocking presents are small, I really cba with wrapping them all.

tulippa · 22/12/2022 18:51

I always wrap them because none of my presents were ever wrapped (even the non-stocking ones) and I've always felt hard-done by!

Hugasauras · 22/12/2022 18:51

DH does the wrapping in our house and curses me every year Grin

mikado1 · 22/12/2022 18:51

Unwrapped for sure.

user375242 · 22/12/2022 18:51

I sometime wrap a few in tissue paper, but mostly I don't. I do stockings for 4 and it's a lot of wasted paper and time and effort. The stocking is the wrapping.

Excitedannie · 22/12/2022 18:52

OMG is unwrapped stockings even a thing???? I just assumed that everyone wraps up the stocking gifts!! What's the point if not?! Where's the excitement????

countrygirl99 · 22/12/2022 18:52
  1. your DC will think the change is odd.
  2. if he's that bothered he can do it.
bravelittletiger · 22/12/2022 18:52

I always wrap them and always had them wrapped as a kid. It seems a bit weird to get unwrapped presents. And then you just sort of take them out of the bag and that's it...no unwrapping or excitement?

neverbeenskiing · 22/12/2022 18:52

I wrap mine, but only because my kids wake up at the crack of dawn and while they sit on our bed unwrapping all their stocking presents it gives me a chance to rest my eyes before we go downstairs and start the day. When you have a child with ADHD who never sleeps those extra 2 minutes spent unwrapping are priceless!

This!

Wakk · 22/12/2022 18:53

They need to be wrapped! I loved the excitement of opening them when I was young and I love seeing my DCs open them.

MIL doesn't wrap and it's a bit ofd just looking in and seeing it all there.

The excitement is just dipping your hand in and seeing what you get!

We wrap about a quarter of it, just bigger/nicer/unusual things. The sweets and chocolate aren’t wrapped.

TheHateIsNotGood · 22/12/2022 18:54

I wrap a couple of bits and leave other things unwrapped. All bases covered.

primeoflife · 22/12/2022 18:55

We do a mix and wrap some but chocolate bits we leave I wrapped
