Smuggest mum blogger post ever?

Yippitydoodah · 21/12/2022 20:18

I follow a mum blogger who lives in a very remote location in the UK. Posts have always been a bit ‘aren’t we wholesome’ but with some interesting stuff too. But just recently the smug has reached a new level! She homeschools her kids (not short of a bob or two) and posted about their day outdoors in the nice winter sunshine. She said ‘my son said, just think mum, if I went to school like everyone else I would be sat in a classroom missing this beautiful day. Isn’t he wise?’

AIBU to ask if this is the most self congratulatory post ever?!

To be fair, Myka S shouldn’t get all the blame. Her husband James was just as involved but he still has a thriving you tube business relating to his car business while her mommy blogging career was (rightly) destroyed.

superplumb · 22/12/2022 07:00

Couldn't stand to follow mummy bloggers. I'd rather have my teeth pulled. It's bad enough at the school gates!

So no then 🙄 to be fair you’d never know if she called you a twat on an anonymous forum!

Nannies often change.
Hence I said I hope she never works for me.

Well home schooling isn't going that well as his grammar is lacking!

Highly unlikely you’ll end up with PP then so I wouldn’t worry Smile

Not that wise as it's school holidays

Not in Wales it’s not. We are at school all this week.

perhaps it’s not that wise to think the whole of the UK has the same education system?

Kanaloa · 22/12/2022 06:50

But just think, if he was sat doing English work then he’d be missing the beautiful day outside, wouldn’t he?

On one hand I can see a sort of appeal in that sort of lifestyle - but in real life I know it would drive me nuts. The sort of kids it produces are always really intense and odd and don’t know how to socialise properly with others.

Oh please let us laugh, it was a funny response

It was a joke? I think it’s daft. I’ve never looked out the window on a December day and thought ‘can’t wait to enjoy the beautiful day outside.’ My main issue working at schools is kids moaning that it’s freezing!

FrenchFancie · 22/12/2022 07:29

This reminds me of two parody accounts I follow on instagram ‘sad beige childrun’ and the crunchy mummy one. They make me laugh because I have a friend who runs a blog, she tried to go for the crunchy mum thing but her two boys didn’t get the memo and love bright colours and anything plastic…

her blog is quite funny if you actually know her, and I do admire the photography skill in making an otherwise ordinary house look amazing….

AmeliaEarhart · 22/12/2022 07:30

I think the key to not having your nanny call you a twat on an Internet forum is not to behave like a twat.

I mainly just want to thank @BertieBotts from the bottom of my heart for resurrecting Finn’s Montessori Nursery. I remember it from the first time around, and it’s even funnier now I have so much more experience with children. I don’t think Finn’s mum had met many when she wrote all of that (a box of tissues on the “self care” table so her infant can wipe his own nose? My DS is 12 and still needs reminding not to wipe his on the arm of the sofa…) To be fair, having glanced at her Instagram last night she does seem to have chilled out a bit since 2009 and her kids seem very happy.

That bedroom below is so constrained

AreOttersJustWetCats · 22/12/2022 07:30

She's a mum blogger. What do you expect? Of course she's nauseatingly smug! Isn't that part of the job description?

Yes the Welsh and Scots find it absolutely hilarious when English people assume we do everything like they do! So funny!

Reallyatthelimit · 22/12/2022 07:36

But seriously! I would never follow a mum blogger, but that comment is just, well, normal. Who hasn’t thought, ‘ If I weren’t at work I could be enjoying this beautiful day’. ?

If you don’t want to read about homeschoolers enjoying the benefits of homeschooling, don’t read their stuff. That’s pretty simple, surely?

Do you always take things so seriously?

emotionallyfragile · 22/12/2022 07:44

If I was a mum blogger my posts would show the reality of having a severely disabled child - the highs and the lows.
However, people may interpret it as me being smug when I get so excited about him saying a new word (he's 12 but developmentally a toddler).
I think that's what puts me off doing it to be honest.

Devoutspoken · 22/12/2022 07:49

Superplumb, I've never read a mummy blog in my life, but I have really enjoyed talking to parents at the school gates, not sure how the 2 compare

Emotionalsupportviper · 22/12/2022 07:52

Yippitydoodah · 21/12/2022 20:21

Not at all jealous, it’s sort of funny in an Amanda from Motherland way!

That's just what I was thinking when I read it.

Her voice was in my head and everything!

BlandSoup · 22/12/2022 08:05

BertieBotts · 21/12/2022 21:12

It's much of a muchness, but I couldn't help reading your post and being reminded of a very old MN post mocking "Finn's Montessori Nursery".

Finn must be a great hulking teenager by now Smile

Found the post (can't find the MN thread)

sewliberated.typepad.com/sew_liberated/2009/04/finnians-montessori-room.html

She still posts incredibly perfect shots on instagram, you've got to respect the dedication.

OMFG!

Some schools in England haven't finished yet. 🤷🤷
