Smuggest mum blogger post ever?

Yippitydoodah · 21/12/2022 20:18

I follow a mum blogger who lives in a very remote location in the UK. Posts have always been a bit ‘aren’t we wholesome’ but with some interesting stuff too. But just recently the smug has reached a new level! She homeschools her kids (not short of a bob or two) and posted about their day outdoors in the nice winter sunshine. She said ‘my son said, just think mum, if I went to school like everyone else I would be sat in a classroom missing this beautiful day. Isn’t he wise?’

AIBU to ask if this is the most self congratulatory post ever?!

Finn's nursery post seemed weird and joyless and strangely controlling when she talked about the special areas and toy rotation. I wonder how it is going now he must be about 14.

HoppyMoppy · 22/12/2022 01:37

I worked with someone who started a mummy blog.

The intro was “Hi! I’m NAME a cappuccino-sipping yummy-mummy of one living in leafy TOWN. Join me and my darling BABY’S NAME on our daily adventures”

😝

They are all full of shit. I used to be one for a bit and hung around with a few in the good old days of the mumsnet bloggers awards.

It’s all made up bollocks to try and get people to read their drivel so they might get some paid posts. The shit I made up, I’m still embarrassed 5 years on.

I love this post.

KettrickenSmiled · 22/12/2022 01:39

@HoppyMoppy I think you owe me a short tutorial on how to find a vomit emoji. Pleeeeeeeease.

Theunamedcat · 22/12/2022 01:45

The only things my kids say are I could never eat an old person they are far too hairy (randomly out of nowhere in the middle of a busy street)

Perhaps I should create a "mummy blogger" account 😀

sashh · 22/12/2022 02:37

Not a mummy blog but on YouTube I watch 'Jar of fire flies', she is quite down to earth and I like a lot of what she says and doesn't plaster her children all over, you only see the ack of their heads.

But I did laugh the day she tried to do the home schooling when it was snowing.

She did abandon it for a 'snow day'.

What made me laugh was that she lives in Texas. How often do children in Texas get a snow day?

emptythelitterbox · 22/12/2022 02:40

Her kids are still small.
There is still plenty of time for them to go off the rails and blame her for all of it.
😂

It's much of a muchness, but I couldn't help reading your post and being reminded of a very old MN post mocking "Finn's Montessori Nursery".

Finn must be a great hulking teenager by now Smile

Found the post (can't find the MN thread)

sewliberated.typepad.com/sew_liberated/2009/04/finnians-montessori-room.html

She still posts incredibly perfect shots on instagram, you've got to respect the dedication.

I read the whole page detailing Finn’s nursery. It took determination just to read about it.

About half way through I’m thinking ‘oh, dear god.’ And then Freddie Mercury’s song, ‘ I want to break free’ popped into my head.

One of the worst US mommy bloggers was (is?) Myka Stauffer. She adopted a disabled baby from China (no idea what disability, it seemed to vary according to what would go down best with her viewers), made a fortune from her ‘adoption journey’ and his cute toddler years then ‘rehomed’ him privately when dealing with him got too difficult (and I suspect he got too old for the ‘so cuuuute’ factor). I’ve seen people give more consideration to getting rid of a pet goldfish.

WiddlinDiddlin · 22/12/2022 04:55

Oh poor Finn... did anyone get as far as the wooly knitted nappy covers (to hide the nappies she uses when she isn't doing EC which is at night, and any time they're out, and any time she can't be arsed, which rather begs the question... what is the fucking point?)

Anotherbloomingchristmas · 22/12/2022 05:12

Finn’s Montessori room makes me think of sad beige children. I hope he got some brightly coloured bed linen and murals eventually.

So you follow her just to laugh at her?

OP hadn’t said that.

mickandrorty · 22/12/2022 05:24

well not to brag but the other day my 6 year old looked deep in thought, i asked what she was thinking about and she said 'i was wondering why sometimes you can taste your breath' so its not just mummy bloggers that have deep thinkers 😅
on a side note i think its pretty grim all these children being paraded around for anyone to see and genuinely believe all these social media pages should be banned until the child is of an age to give proper consent.

Talia99 · 22/12/2022 05:38

At the very least, they (and children on reality TV) should have laws protecting their share of the income made in the same way as child actors. Those laws aren’t perfect but at least they exist!

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 22/12/2022 05:44

They need to spend more time up on their English lessons.
It’s ‘sitting’ not ‘sat’.

Littlepuddytat · 22/12/2022 06:20

That finns nursery brings to mind the rainbow room in stranger things (but the nursery is much, much duller). Everything carefully curated, specific things rotated around. It's like an experiment.

I used to nanny for someone trying to be a mummy blogger. The twat used to post all these beautiful pictures of their birthday cake, tables set for parties, little dens made in the living room or tuff trays set up for the little one. IT WAS ALL ME!!! She spent her life doing yoga and wafting about in a kaftan saying she had a migraine.

Twat?
Hope you never become my nanny. I'm not a blogger but I'd hate for someone like you to work for me.

Yippitydoodah · 22/12/2022 06:33

Had a good laugh reading finns nursery before I went to sleep. So sad! Where are the fisher price toys, the colourful play mat etc? It almost looks like a bizarre kind of cell, like when you read sad stories about people kidnapped and kept in basements for years. Her weird views of precisely what he will be doing in each aspect of the room doesn’t help, it’s so controlling!

I have one already

Yippitydoodah · 22/12/2022 06:43

So no then 🙄 to be fair you’d never know if she called you a twat on an anonymous forum!

I think Jordan Peele or some great filmmaker could make a horror film out of some of those American ones.

Does anyone remember the woman who adopted a little boy with disabilities from another country and it was all over her socials, even having a ‘gotcha’ day where she dressed up and publicly shared meeting this child for the first time like he was a Shein haul? Then suddenly the boy disappeared, and they went off on holidays, repainted his room as a playroom etc. Then because so many people asked about where is little x, they did a video about how they’d ‘rehomed’ him because he was too hard work.

But just think, if he was sat doing English work then he’d be missing the beautiful day outside, wouldn’t he?

That’s Myka Stauffer who I mentioned above. An awful case but it brought to light that white saviour adoptions of foreign children followed by random ‘rehoming’ to new ‘parents’ found through Facebook or rehoming sites apparently occurs regularly in the US.

I know I saw right after I’d posted 😂 couldn’t remember the name. I just remember it coming out at the time and thinking the way she spoke was disgraceful if she’d been rejoining a dog. Never mind a child that she brought into the country to make money off.

I just can’t believe it even happened, it does seem like surreal short story or something to me.
