Smuggest mum blogger post ever?

Yippitydoodah · 21/12/2022 20:18

I follow a mum blogger who lives in a very remote location in the UK. Posts have always been a bit ‘aren’t we wholesome’ but with some interesting stuff too. But just recently the smug has reached a new level! She homeschools her kids (not short of a bob or two) and posted about their day outdoors in the nice winter sunshine. She said ‘my son said, just think mum, if I went to school like everyone else I would be sat in a classroom missing this beautiful day. Isn’t he wise?’

AIBU to ask if this is the most self congratulatory post ever?!

OP posts:

@SallyAny I’m old too and don’t understand the point of “mummy bloggers”. Have people really got so little interest in their own lives that they’re interested in how others live and worse, want to be like them? I can’t think of anything worse, let alone calling their poor children strange names!

BestZebbie · 21/12/2022 23:29

Don't forget she is probably focussing on the positives for her posts, too - we also home educate and we also enjoyed and made the most of being able to play in the snow all morning when it first arrived rather than having to wait until after school - but unless she also posts e.g.: "staying up until midnight trying to get the printer to work" and "the inside of my car after forest school #muddypuddles" then there is a certain social media selectivity there (which shouldn't really be a shock to anyone). :-)

Mum blogger and home schooling. Both make me cringe.

whattodo1975 · 21/12/2022 23:36

“Mum I’ve met a new boy he’s lovely”
”that’s wonderful dear, what’s he like”
”well he was homeschooled until the age of 16”

Thank you so much for sharing Finn's Montessori nursery!

ApexPredator · 21/12/2022 23:39

Finn’s Nursery is pure gold. I also noticed that in the most recent thread the husband is learning to sew:

This year, for my wife’s birthday, I sewed her a custom-made Studio Tunic in a bark-green Nomad Linen with contrasting burnt orange top stitching.

It's much of a muchness, but I couldn't help reading your post and being reminded of a very old MN post mocking "Finn's Montessori Nursery".

Finn must be a great hulking teenager by now Smile

Found the post (can't find the MN thread)

She still posts incredibly perfect shots on instagram, you've got to respect the dedication.

Oh good god 🤣 I know this is old but wow. I wonder how her plans all worked out in reality, not in online fantasy land!

It's all fake anyway. My DD goes to school with the daughter of a mum blogger. On Instagram the kid is all smiles and looks like a happy soul. The reality is she cries ALL THE BLOODY TIME and scowls constantly unless an iPhone is pointed at her when this fake perma grin appears. It's sad to watch.

Sad? It's downright sinister. It's a world I know nothing about, thanks for the insight Criss.

TruckerBarbie · 21/12/2022 23:46

I love Ballerbusters on IG. The guy sniffs out all the 'nontrepreneurs' like a bloodhound. Does stuff like run numberplates to show they hired a Porsche for the day etc.

Some of the guys he's exposed were doing stuff like driving around and changing clothes several times to give the impression the pics were taken on different days, to avoid looking like they just rented a car for a day.

lessthanathirdofanacre · 21/12/2022 23:50

OMG Finn's nursery! 😂The Elimination Communication area. And the Care of Self area. And the chair that is "ergonomically designed for the tiniest of sitters." I don't think I've ever seen anything quite so special. 😂 Also imagining Finn pulling all the pictures off the wall as soon as he was old enough, since they are carefully placed at "child-height." I'd love to see a before and after comparison.

This mumblog stuff is a revelation.
Cheers Bertie it's like something out of Pseud's Corner:

Multi-passionate. 👀 😂 Multi-hilarious.

Do you have a link? I can’t find them on IG 😩

underneaththeash · 21/12/2022 23:56

Why follow these people - they know nothing more than you?

KettrickenSmiled · 22/12/2022 00:02

FallopianTubeTrain · 21/12/2022 21:19

This is incredible 🤣🤣🤣

It reminds me of Southwell workhouse

it's fascinatingly solipsistic & ridiculous. And Finn's room is dangerously non-childproofed. That owl balanced precariously above the potty for example, oh sorry I mean the Elimination Communication area.
She's even got a glass Tilley lamp, placed at just the right height to be pulled down onto Finn's inquisitive little head when he starts toddling.

Finn must be a great hulking teenager by now
Or still laid out in a Tasteful Ornament-induced coma ...

I follow some American ones. Their kids are always blonde and have bonkers names. One I follow has boys called something like Bristol, Rawlings and Thompson and her daughters are something like Braxton and Baker-May. They basically have surnames as names and it’s apparently some old southern American thing ?!! I find it absolutely fascinating and would love to know what they’re actually like in real life. One posted about how they forgot their kids lunch and got something delivered to the school instead. Imagine this In real life ?!

Am so, so, disappointed that they ended up choosing Baker-May instead of Hicks.

He would possibly learn better grammar than "I would be sat" in school too.

Exactly what I thought. English 'lessons' not going well, it seems.

I don't know who's sadder those who post crap like that or those who follow them and then are so incensed they have to mock said person for validation from others.

I'd like to gently tease you for posting about sad people posting about smug people posting crap, but it's a meta too far & I got confused. Is it Thursday yet?

Cocacolathanks · 22/12/2022 00:23

Just took a look at the Saccone Jolys family mentioned here and I feel so strange about it. Seems like a very awkward and worrying family, to put it mildly.

I particularly liked 'Finn will use this bed for naps (if he so desires)'

PeachTea1 · 21/12/2022 23:20

Yep! Saccone Jolys - very odd family

www.irishexaminer.com/news/munster/arid-40858289.html

Some acknowledgement, buried under a lot of weasel words, from Saccone himself owning that it's not ok to use kids for attention & profit. Which he follows up by saying they'll be able to do their OWN blogs for attention & proifit when older. It's like an undocumented life isn't something that he can conceptualise.

I love coming across American bloggers just for the names they give their children. I came across one recently whose brood of children were Rayne, Rivers, Rawlings, Bridge, Wales, Saylor,, Blu, Tag and Layke.
