Pushchair fight on bus

Partygal · 19/12/2022 22:25

After picking my child up from her child minder today, I arrived the bus stop to find two women with buggies waiting.

Knowing that the driver wouldn’t let three of us on, I walked round the corner to the previous stop and got on there.

When it arrived at the next stop, sure enough only mum was allowed on - the other was told to wait 30 minutes for the next bus. I was screamed at and called a cunt and a queue jumper by one mum who tried to shove me off the bus.

I don’t think I did anything wrong, nor did the police when they turned up after being called by the driver.

What the fuck is wrong with people?

OP posts:

Well, of course you did nothing wrong! It was open to both the other mothers to do just what you did but they chose to wait together.

If not you, then who's to say that there might not have been 1 or 2 others with buggies waiting at the stop before them - then neither of them would have got on.

It's called life.

Exactly. Well done, OP.

Cuppasoupmonster · 20/12/2022 09:56

susiesuelou · 20/12/2022 09:51

Such a good point.

There could have been an entirely different mum with a buggy at the previous stop anyway, which means they'd have had the same issue regardless of OP's actions. 🤷‍♀️

But that didn’t happen; we know what OP did and why, and her sneakiness is being criticised.

AngelinaFibres · 20/12/2022 09:30

This. If I had been standing at a bus stop, seen you walk up and then walk away and magically appear on the bus ahead of me , thereby denying me a space, I would honestly have wanted to rip your head off.

It is hardly 'magical' is it, the OP just used her noggin. While she was at home enjoying a cuppa you would fantasising decapitating a random member of the public, I know where I would rather be in this scenario.

choochoomama · 20/12/2022 09:58

It was a very shitty thing to do! Just be prepared when it your in a situation like that!

This story makes no sense. Do you know the woman? How did she recognise you? How did she get on to push you if there was no room? How long did the bus sit there waiting for the police? I call BS

😁

I actually think this thread is really enlightening. There’s always a lot of anger on me threads about people who have been a bit clever about stuff. OP used her brain, nothing wrong with that. We should use our initiative, not just hope other people will be benevolent and put us first.

NooNooHead1981 · 20/12/2022 10:04

@SleeplessInEngland 🤣 it will do soon probably!

I haven't RTFT but I remember quite recently being on a bus with my DD in her pushchair and the wheelchair space was full, and there were 2 elderly people who were occupying the seats there. I had to sit in the seats facing the aisle opposite them, sideways on, as they refused to move and let me sit there with my DD. I couldn't fold my pushchair up easily as there was nowhere to put it down apart from leaving it half over the middle walkway which was probably not the best nor safer.thimg to do. I nearly got off as I was worried I'd be blocking the aisle with my pushchair and I couldn't be bothered to be more assertive and ask the old couple to move as there weren't any other seats available for them .

My point is, it can work the other way and sometimes the other people don't accommodate the mums with pushchairs either.

why wouldn’t she be? Isn’t that the nature of public transport? It’s a crapshoot and as such you’re not guaranteed a space. OP was just smart enough to increase her chances and it paid off.

Has this thread made the papers yet?

NooNooHead1981 · 20/12/2022 10:05

The elderly people weren't in wheelchairs BTW and there was another one on the folding seat just in the space too so there really wasn't anywhere else for me to go...

gianfrancogorgonzola · 20/12/2022 10:06

Very selfish imo. Just wait your turn.

She did - at another bus stop. What is it about the system of bus stops that you don't understand?

Abeachsomewhere · 20/12/2022 10:09

That was a dick move on your part but her reaction sounds vile.

Mcmew · 20/12/2022 10:09

OP you did nothing wrong. You used your initiative to walk one stop.

Agreed

She didConfused just at a different stop 🤷‍♀️

SillyLittleBiscuit · 20/12/2022 10:11

How long did it take for the police to arrive and resolve? I’d have felt so awkward!

NewNovember · 20/12/2022 10:12

Have some schools broke up early this year?

Catspyjamas17 · 20/12/2022 10:12

This is why people end up walking or driving with small children unless they absolutely have to get the bus. Couldn't be arsed fighting with people for space/pitted against wheelchair users or having to juggle a baby while folding a pushchair on a moving vehicle. The couple of times I tried it the bus didn't even pull right up to the pavement as they are supposed to and it was quite tricky to get the pushchair on the bus in the first place. Would've been impossible with a wheelchair.

Dreamwhisper · 20/12/2022 10:13

I frequently walk to other bus stops if my bus has a long wait, because I hate standing there doing nothing sometimes and I would rather walk and have more time on the bus. I've seen plenty of people do this too.

Obviously the pushchair element complicates things but I wouldn't have been so brazen as to bloody attack you even if I had been mad!

Dreamwhisper · 20/12/2022 10:14

Also I'm surprised it was up to you to decide whether to fold or not tbh. On the buses where I live there are signs and the driver would have insisted on it if there was someone else with a buggy waiting to get on.

NinjaWarriorCooker · 20/12/2022 10:15

MrsTumblebee · 20/12/2022 04:00

They would have seen her at the original bus stop.

But surely if you are arriving at a bus stop with a third pushchair, you wouldn’t stop wait and then go to the next stop. You’d just walk by and carry on.
