AIBU?

Pushchair fight on bus

Partygal · 19/12/2022 22:25

After picking my child up from her child minder today, I arrived the bus stop to find two women with buggies waiting.

Knowing that the driver wouldn’t let three of us on, I walked round the corner to the previous stop and got on there.

When it arrived at the next stop, sure enough only mum was allowed on - the other was told to wait 30 minutes for the next bus. I was screamed at and called a cunt and a queue jumper by one mum who tried to shove me off the bus.

I don’t think I did anything wrong, nor did the police when they turned up after being called by the driver.

What the fuck is wrong with people?

I think there's nothing wrong with doing that but... How did she try to shove you off the bus if she hadn't been let on?

I’m my opinion you just did the clever thing , tough luck to the other one !

I don't think you were unreasonable.

Depending on the age of my child though, if I was in your shoes, I'd have probably used the time on the bus to fold down the pushchair to make room for her to get on too.

Was your pushchair foldable?

You acted knowing that you would be taking the place of someone who had been waiting longer than you.

Technically you didn't break any rules, but you were selfish and sneaky in your actions. If your pushchair was foldable then you could have folded it, put it in the bag bit and held your child.

Ooh
That's sneaky.

But YANBU.

It was clever of you, but ethically dubious considering they were both there before you

Report
YellowTreeHouse · 19/12/2022 22:31

You were really selfish and should have folded.

That's harsh as fuck OP.

I mean yeah you got on but the other mum didn't. I'm pretty sure she wasn't waiting for the bus for a laugh either.

You queue jumped. VVU.

Her reaction was over the top and she was completely out of order, but you did a shitty thing jumping the queue like that.

Report
Maverickess · 19/12/2022 22:34

Well you didn't do anything 'wrong' as such, and the reaction was OTT, but I would have been annoyed if it'd been me unable to get on the bus because you'd done this and I'd had to wait another half an hour, as pp said I'd have probably put the pushchair down if possible to get on with the other two people considering I was there after them.

IWasFunBeforeMum · 19/12/2022 22:34

You were smarter than them. I'd have done the same.

Bananarama21 · 19/12/2022 22:34

You were an arsehole, she waited longer than you in the freezing cold. You could uave folded you buggy down.

Report
Lockheart · 19/12/2022 22:35

I often walk a few mins to an earlier stop if the closest one is crowded. Nothing wrong with that and it's an option open to most people easily enough.

But I don't see why you couldn't all have collapsed your pushchairs and all got on.

What freezing cold? Most of the UK warmed up by twenty odd degrees today.

The one mum who got on the bus shoved me. NO WAY was I folding after that.

Did you not know Holly & Phil’s careers have been RUINED by queue jumping, and that was only allegedly.

No good will come of this.

Ooh tough one. I would probably have done the same thing without thinking it through and then felt bad about it and folded the pram down if possible. Although mine is big and doesn’t fold down very well

I'm stuck between thinking that was an incredibly low thing to do and you deserved a few choice words from someone who may have already waited upto half an hour. But then I kind of think I'd have done this if it had ever occurred to me when mine were in pushchairs!!

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 19/12/2022 22:37

Blimey. Surely another bus arrived before the police any way. I can't imagine they'd be in much of a hurry to sort out an argument over a buggy space

It’s not a police matter

It’s not a legal matter

I don’t understand this story, how long did the police take to attend? Were you all able to wait on the bus until they came?

It may be morally dubious to some - I’ve never been in the position of having to wait with my baby in the cold for a bus. So what I may think is a non-matter, someone in that situation may think is cruel. Ultimately you knew you being on the bus would be at the expense of the people you saw at the next bus stop, but that’s not really your problem

It's not queue jumping to get on at an earlier stop. There is nothing which obligates you to board the bus at any particular stop.

She likely thought you were a CF. Have you got no shame. I'd have thought less of you aswell.

Report

Were the other 2 ladies friends with each other then OP?

The decent thing to do would've been to fold before they ever got near the bus.
