Sage green dress drama - Bride

lgcoopers · 19/12/2022 19:47

Bride wants me to send a picture over of what I've chosen

I must wear a dress that's sage green. So must DD and DS (wear sage green). DD has to wear a dress but is exempt (bride's words) from wearing ballet slippers because she isn't walking yet

The men must wear any suit colour but black, with a sage green tie.

AIBU to tell her I can't find anything in my size really that's sage green? Blush

She wants me to send pictures of what I've chosen for the kids before they turn up on the day

Sage is a very muted greyish green which doesn't suit many people.

Why is the bride dictating what her wedding guests can wear?

Why are any of you putting up with it?

I wear a lot of green but I wouldn't touch sage with a bargepole. If for some bizarre reason I absolutely had to attend, I might choose purple and orange, vibrant amidst all the foliage other guests.

lgcoopers · 19/12/2022 20:35

Have just realised by linking my dress she will know which guest has spoken shite about her on here Blush

Might have to delete link, sorry ladies

The dress you bought is lovely

lgcoopers · 19/12/2022 20:36

@berrycakeandcustard thank you I think so too, think I'll feel really confident in it

Buy a sage green scarf and tell her it was all you could find.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 19/12/2022 20:37

That's a really lovely dress, but the words 'recycled polyester' set my teeth on edge. I can never get Trinny or Susanna's words out of my head: "I bet you're sweating like a pig in that polyester."

LBFseBrom · 19/12/2022 20:38

Hank, that dress is pretty but might be too much of an evening/prom dress for a wedding guest. I generally don't like green but that pale, 'watery' type green is nice.

@pelargoniums and @CavalierApproach Grin

OP hope you have a lovely time.

this is in size 16 and looks quite flattering

ScruffMuffin · 19/12/2022 20:39

That's a lovely dress that you've chosen, but... WTAF?!? Since when is this a thing, insisting that all the guests wear your favourite colour and asking to approve their outfits in advance? It's a whole new level of Bridezilla, isn't it? Just as well I didn't think of it when I got married 20 years ago... my bridesmaids wore purple and I can just imagine 100 guests clashing violently/ violetly (!) in their different shades of purple.

I think you should have a bit of fun with Bridezilla and link her to some outfits that you have absolutely no intention of wearing. Preferably loud and patterned.

Won't it be weird if loads of people turn up wearing the same dress?

StoneofDestiny · 19/12/2022 20:23

The guests could all be turning up in the same dress!

Or everyone will turn up in slightly clashing shades of green, and the photos will look shit. Which is exactly what bridezilla deserves!

AdelaideLane · 19/12/2022 20:40

I see you've bought, this would have been a bargain - £15.00. Similar to the Monsoon one but with a short sleeve.

It won’t work, the bride will be bitterly disappointed when she looks down at the guests. It will look like a convention of marines in full camouflage sitting in a swamp with frogs! I was once having lunch at a very nice restaurant/ hotel/ wedding venue when we saw the arrival of a bus load of wedding guests, the dress code was clearly black and white, but rather than the elegant assembly the bride was presumably expecting , maybe inspired by the Ascot scene in My Fair Lady, it looked like a sad and scruffy collection of not very successful undertakers. I never realised before how many shades of black count as black.

This is a way of searching accross multiple sites for size and colour etc

ChateauMargaux · 19/12/2022 20:42

Can you come back and tell us how the wedding went? and maybe PM us with photos...

Do you have time before the wedding? I get the impression that you are not comfortable with your weight and that some of these dresses might actually look quite nice on you in your size. (not all mind you - having just seen photos of overweight me in a swim suit yesterday ..). Can you order a few of these dresses in a few sizes, order some fabulous underwear, do your hair and make up and try some on.

I am also, much larger than I have been and recently bought a lovely dress which the shop owner said could also be worn as a 'cardigan'. It's a long button through dress in thin patterned fabric. I wore it over a plain fitted dress in a contrasting colour, it covered my arms and disguised my silhouette without making me look like I was wearing a tent. Overall the effect worked well.

lgcoopers · 19/12/2022 20:44

Looks like I've been spotted. Just got a text to say the green is off!

AdelaideLane · 19/12/2022 20:44

And look here at ‘sage green’ - so many shades, some awful. The bride still may be disappointed.

Please post the photos....😆😉

DappledThings · 19/12/2022 20:44

This is one of the few threads I hope does get picked up by a tabloid so Bridezillla sees it and has time to send a new message to all her friends saying she's realised how daft she was being and everyone should just wear whatever they want to like a normal wedding.

ChateauMargaux · 19/12/2022 20:44

oops.. read to the end!! I love the dress you have chosen. It looks swingy and pretty.

EddyF · 19/12/2022 20:44

What’s so odd about this? I have been to lots of weddings that has a colour theme for guests; for example, every guest should wear black/white. Some people want to coordinate their day/photos. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this request unless she’s left it late to inform guests.

ChateauMargaux · 19/12/2022 20:45

Oh no - green is off - wear it anyway!!

Were you at this wedding, @EddyF?

ScruffMuffin · 19/12/2022 20:47

Eek... after people have started buying outfits especially!

Wear and enjoy your dress anyway, OP.

It’s odd. Also, very Bridezilla and kind of tacky.
