Sage green dress drama - Bride

lgcoopers · 19/12/2022 19:47

Bride wants me to send a picture over of what I've chosen

I must wear a dress that's sage green. So must DD and DS (wear sage green). DD has to wear a dress but is exempt (bride's words) from wearing ballet slippers because she isn't walking yet

The men must wear any suit colour but black, with a sage green tie.

AIBU to tell her I can't find anything in my size really that's sage green? Blush

She wants me to send pictures of what I've chosen for the kids before they turn up on the day

This is very strange, I’ve never been told what colour to wear for a wedding before. Is she a close relative? The dress someone posted earlier looks like a bridesmaid dress. Are all the guest’s being told what to wear?

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 19/12/2022 19:53

I would change my rsvp to a no, and tell her you can no longer attend. She is an absolute cheeky fucker and I can't believe you are thinking of bowing down to this ludicrous demand.

gawditswindy · 19/12/2022 19:53

I'm pretty sure I'd be busy that day. And I really like sage green.

GooseberryCinnamonYogurt · 19/12/2022 19:54

Why must you wear sage green? I don't understand if your not in the wedding party?

Anewhoo · 19/12/2022 19:54

I feel like it's a bit cheeky fucker to ask the bride for links? Surely as a guest I should put that effort in myself? Blush

Well if you really feel that way I’d move this to style and beauty if you’re after dress advice. People are so helpful on that forum. Unless you wanted a pile on for how awful the bride is - then crack on!!

CavalierApproach · 19/12/2022 19:54

This is so bizarre, how can it be down to the bride to tell every guest what to wear in such restrictive, controlling terms?

Like all your family and friends are just cardboard cut-outs on your stage Confused

It's cheeky of the bride to dictate what you wear as a guest when you're not in the bridal party!

This. Who gives her the right to choose what guests wear? Bridezilla much. I wouldn't go. Unless she was going to pay for all the new clothes the family had to buy to accommodate her

ABigSalad123 · 19/12/2022 19:55

Sorry can see the thread has moved on between when I read it and posted! If you’re not in the bridal party, I think you should ask the bride why she’s asking you to wear a certain colour - you can do it in a curious, inquisitive way so as not to seem PA about it.

I've got a group of 3 friends who are all invited. We are all saying the same thing and are a bit .... about the request!

But one of us made a good point when she said 'don't like it, don't go. It isn't our day' which is fair

Is there something missing here? Are you close family? How many guests are there, is she asking all or only some people?

MadeofElephantStone · 19/12/2022 19:55

If she wants people to wear certain clothes to her wedding she ought to pay for it. CF!

ohidoliketobe · 19/12/2022 19:56

Just when you think you've heard all the batshit wedding demands....

Oh OP - she is deffo being the cheeky fucker here! If you’re not in the bridal party then WTAF 😂 ive heard of people being asked to wear white which is a lot easier. But sage green and dictating footwear?! Hell no. Bridezilla alert

I am not sure I believe that some 9ne is monitoring every guests attire, so something is missing here

Bloody hell that's gorgeous! However I'm now a size 14/16, and I was a size 10 a year ago.

Far too self conscious to wear than

Wear it with a bolero or wrap? Although if you like it just wear it. We shouldn't be apologising for our bodies to anyone.

Bayleaf25 · 19/12/2022 19:57

Maybe just say, oh so sorry I’ve already bought my outfit and haven’t really got the budget to buy another one now.

Purplechicken207 · 19/12/2022 19:57

Seriously don't buy from Shein. The appalling treatment/abuse of workers, and way they completely rip off other (mostly small) businesses. And when questioned they just delete the item from sale, and move on to ripping off the next person. A quick Google will show how absolutely awful they are. Fast, cheap, nasty fashion ripping off small businesses and designers and ignoring any kind of workers rights.

DashboardConfessional · 19/12/2022 19:58

It'd be a cold day in hell before I bought 4 new outfits including appropriate shoes for half a day.

Glittertwins · 19/12/2022 19:58

If she wants you to wear a certain colour, she can find and pay for it. No way would I be spending my own money on something that wouldn't suit my skin colouring and that's is ever wear again. If she wasn't forthcoming, I'd be declining summons (it's not an invitation if controlled in my opinion)

Theunamedcat · 19/12/2022 19:58

Isn't green unlucky for a wedding?
