To ask what exactly Clarkson

Feels Meghan has done to him to justify the vitriol and misogyny of that article he wrote where he’d like to see her naked and assaulted?

I mean WTF? How in earth did a major publication think that it was fine to publish his little sexual fantasy about hurting a woman like that?

I’m no fan of the Royals in any form, and could care less about their infighting, but why are we surprised that there is so much violence against women and girls when this kind of article by an influential man is seen as okay to write?
Where’s his description of a naked, vulnerable Harry being assaulted??

Guessing the RF is waiting until all the Harry and Meghan stuff comes out before responding

Why would you decide that? They've never stood up for them before.

The Netflix series is over. The right thing to do would be release a short statement condemning pieces like Clarkson's and a word to all press contacts to lay off.

They won't though. They're afraid of retaliation.

This all reminds me of how horribly long it took the RF to reflect on their actions and profile back in the 90s, culminating in that annus horribilis speech.

PrimroseYello · 20/12/2022 10:11

It really is very strange how she provokes such a strong reaction in a certain sort of man- a really intense sort of sexual rage. Piers Morgan is another one. Maybe something to do with having the temerity to be attractive and privileged but not conform to a particular way of behaving.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 20/12/2022 10:11

'I think what Clarkson was trying to say with the Rose West comparison is that he acknowledges that he hates her randomly and irrationally more than people who've done objectively far more to deserve his hatred'.

I read this as he's mocking the people who hate her by pretending to talk in their language, at the same time managing to convey exactly the same message. It's a peculiar combination of intent and denial, adopting a strange form of doublethink to ensure, again, plausible deniability.

As far as misogyny is concerned, I can't help but think of the media figures who court controversy, make revolting sexist and racist comments and deliberately pick fights with people on SM to keep themselves relevant. The three that immediately spring to mind are Piers Morgan, Jeremy Clarkson and Katie Hopkins.

The latter two (unbelievably) are still in work, despite having lost specific roles because of their behaviour.

As to Katie Hopkins, where is she? And I wonder what the reason might be?

Katie Hopkins ceased to be useful the moment she dared to speak out against lockdowns, mandatory vaccinations etc. Then and only then did she cease to be given a platform. Piers played the game and toed the old ‘stay at home or you’re a covidiot’ line, Jeremy had the “sense” to stay silent, Katie Hopkins wouldn’t so she was blacklisted by the media.

In Piers' case, thats exactly what it was. He fancied her, probably knew she'd never sleep with him but thought she'd still spend time with him so he could imagine she was flirting...she ended the friendship, impotent rage ensued.

I am not a Morgan fan I think he is pathetic particularly when he was hysterical on gmb at the start of the pandemic. I seriously think he was responsible for a lot of the panic.

That said I don't think this situation is anything to do with 'sexual rage' Confused. He has been with his very attractive wife years, he just saw M for what she was. She sort him out as a networking contact then obviously dropped him when the plan with H progressed. He can see what they are clearly trying to do , damage the monarchy whilst furthering their media careers. Morgan doesn't do himself any favours though, like Clarkson he is too oafish and stupid. Less would be more when it came to his observations.

Piggywaspushed · 20/12/2022 11:23

I think the monarchy can do themselves quite enough damage to be honest.

Men who hate attractive yet displeasing women aren't cured of it by being married to attractive and pleasing ones.

Yes, exactly this. There is something very disturbing about it- PM's frankly obsessive behaviour really isn't explicable as just "seeing Meghan for who she was". I used to think it was just put on for attention/clicks but I think there's more to it now.

ReneBumsWombats · 20/12/2022 11:40

It was clearly just classic male rage that a woman he was attracted to decided she no longer wanted to give him any supply. It wouldn't surprise me if he drove her away with his creepiness. He probably knew she'd never sleep with him but he could kid himself that the friendship was really a mutual attraction on some level. He discovers she wasn't attracted to him and now doesn't want his company any more...cue utter endless rage.

If he were a woman they'd be calling him a bunny boiler, not continuing to host his shite.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 20/12/2022 11:50

This one completely passed me by. But I wouldn't mind betting she'd still have a platform had she been a man.

Pity the other two can't go the same way. It would indeed be amazing if Covid could render someone persona non grata whilst gratuitous violence against women and minorities is conveniently overlooked.

His behaviour was exactly like that of a spurned lover.

If I'd been his wife (ugh, gods forbid) I would have been less than impressed.

I have to laugh at the people denying that race is playing a part here. What else would explain this level of vitriol directed at a woman who, to my eyes anyway, hasn't done much wrong of any note?

I mean, I get people might find her irritating. But really? This level of abuse?

I would also add xenophobia in there as well. I’ve heard and seen enough in and outside of social media against Americans here. A good part of it is cultural, and expecting anyone to quickly familiarise themselves with British culture from any culture in a few months or even a year’s time is ridiculous. There are some things that books or even googling can’t teach that you have to learn from experience. You don’t exactly get a manual with a visa despite some people’s assumptions.

Imagine learning from people who have never lived an average life and the media watching your every move waiting gleefully for a misstep or blowing up very minor things to sell papers because drama sells.

Worse...a spurned would-be lover.

No vanity like the one that never got validated in the first place.

TarasHarp55 · 20/12/2022 11:58

Surely his career should be over after such a vile rant. He's clearly hugely misogynistic to even think that way. Horrible vile man.

twelly · 20/12/2022 12:04

I think the outrage of the newspaper column seems to be now focused upon racism and misogyny. I don't believe that racism was a factor in what was written in the article, I am not sure whether he was motivated by misogyny.

However, I do believe that the article overstepped the mark - I would have felt the same if it had referred to a white male in the same way.

I think in many ways the current discussion now focuses upon racism which in my view is not the issue - the issue in my opinion is writing an article suggesting treatment of any individual in this way. That said the article was not intended in the literal sense - it was an article designed to shock.

I do not like, support or read that type of journalism but as long as it is allowed then articles will be written in this way. My point is that either any type of comment of this nature are removed on none are.

Givemyheadpiece · 20/12/2022 12:32

‘However, I do believe that the article overstepped the mark - I would have felt the same if it had referred to a white male in the same way.’

I’m sure you would. But Clarkson and men like him NEVER go after straight, white men like that because that’s not their sexual fantasy.

SinnerBoy · 20/12/2022 12:39

However, I do believe that the article overstepped the mark...

Not so much overstepped as stamped it to death and pissed on its twitching corpse. He's a vile bully and I hope he does get sacked. Not that it would hurt anything except his ego, as he's worth tens of millions, as it is.

Endlesssummer2022 · 20/12/2022 12:41

Adding what I wrote on another thread below.

Hopefully this incident heralds the end of the British tabloid press as we know it. How they weren’t mainly shut down and new rules put in place after Milly Dowler and phone hacking I don’t know. Shows how much power they have. However, they’ve now targeted a couple with money and a platform to fight back. Harry saw how they broke his mother and he’s not having it.

The blinds have been fully opened for the world to see and they are horrified. I’m on holiday abroad and friends and family who are not royal watchers and don’t really care about them are pretty shocked. They know bullying when they see it. They can’t believe this hatred can be published in a mainstream newspaper. It just wouldn’t happen in any other developed country.

How has the British press ended up here? It’s so toxic and they’ve done so much to damage the fabric of Britain and our reputation abroad. Nevertheless, they know they have to destroy H&M because if they don’t, other targets will also find the strength to fight back.

I am willing H&M to win this fight. I was heartened to read the head of the press watchdog IPSOS cancelled a private dinner with Rupert Murdoch last night and that 60 crossbench MPs wrote to condemn Clarkson article. Hopefully, meaningful consequences which will see this poisonous industry finally cleaned up will be coming shortly.

According to Huffingtonpost (updated an hour ago):

Jeremy Clarkson's Meghan Markle Column Removed As Record 17,500 Complain To Ipso

Jeremy Clarkson’s hate-filled column about Meghan Markle has been taken down from The Sun’s website at the request of the presenter, as a record 17,500 complaints were lodged with the Independent Press Standards Organisation (Ipso)...

twelly · 20/12/2022 13:01

I think the standards of journalism has reached a low and the column highlights this. We need a responsible press where commentary and comments need to be measured not these type of comments that are distasteful.

Its absurd, isn't it? I'd laugh if it wasn't so dangerous.

I'll just add it to my list:
You were wearing a short skirt
You shouldn't have been drunk
It can't have been him, he has a hot wife.

'I'll just add it to my list:'

You are absolutely taking this 'dangerously' out of context. I haven't implied any of the above. The theme on here is he fancied her, she 'spurned' his advances hence his obsession, I disagree, if that's ok on a chat forum? He was happy to help her network in the UK she dropped him when she found a better contact and he has revealed her for what he believes her to be, a fame hungry narcissist. Now disagree with him all you like but let's leave 'sexual rage' and 'short skirts' out of it shall we?

As always with this saga lots of projection going on.
