I bought a JOIE 360° car seat which at the time seemed extortionate but when I look at how much ease it has given me over the years I think it was worth every penny.
Ditto expensive Dr Marten boots.

AIBU to ask what you've considered expensive when you bought it but in hindsight realised was worth it?

Birkenstock sandals

Nutritious and slightly more expensive foods, such as salmon, olives, nuts.

Protein powder is kind of nice too to make puddingy snacks etc or mix in stuff to make it more filling, and some brands are actually better value for protein than most foods.

Heating.

The £1.29 refillable coffees in wetherspoons.

Expensive perfume is not worth the money. They spend far more on branding than the actual perfume.

Cups of tea in a cafe. £2.25 a pop but worth every penny. I live alone and sitting in a cafe with my book watching the world go by is uplifting.

I agree. It's nice to have a good book with a nice cup of tea and nowhere to be!

Highlights! Cost a fortune! I'm really frugal with most things (I buy pretty much all my clothes second hand, for instance, and almost all my sons' Christmas presents are from Facebook marketplace)... but I just spurge on this and it makes such a difference. Tried to go to a much cheaper person and I looked awful - learned the hard way that this is one of the fee very expensive things that is worth paying for!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/12/2022 22:15

Good knitwear - alpaca, cashmere, mohair
The cat wasn’t expensive but she is the best money we ever spent, despite currently hogging my heated throw
Lovely brushed cotton duvet sets by Orla Kiely - so cosy, like sleeping in a cloud
Perfume/skincare

dr martens are no longer worth it sadly

I agree re Dr Martens. Not anything like the quality they used to be and a lot more expensive. Sad times.

It's totally worth the money for making you feel like the glamorous woman in the ad. That's what it's for.

L'occitane Almond Shower Oil

https://uk.loccitane.com/almond-shower-oil,83,1,29819,270017.htm#s=86270

Originally a present, now a daily treat and totally worth it.

My mum has the liquid hand soap and dad loves it but we know that if he knew the price he’d never use it again. Every time he suggests going in the L’occitane shop mum makes her excuses and they never go in. This has been going on for about 5 years.

It's amazing! You can get cookbooks from amazon with loads of recipes. It's cooks food in half the time it would in an oven. Roast potatoes take 30 mins and you don't need to boil them first! Enjoy!

Love my ninja but for the very best roast potatoes I pressure cook them first then air fry them.
I use my 11 in 1 most days and also have a dual air fryer. Hardly ever use my Lovely neff ovens now.

Joseph Joseph totem style kitchen bin. I paid over £100 for it about 8 years ago. Its saved me money as the cheaper bins would regularly break and need to be replaced while this is still going strong.

I love my Joseph Joseph kitchen bin! It has three compartments for rubbish and recycling and was just the right size for the space we had 😀

Iliveinanoodie · 17/12/2022 22:16

Proper cornflakes. I can do a lot of store copies, but not cornflakes.

DH and I are generally cheapskates but im glad we bought expensive mattress, pillows and bed linens. I love going to bed!
Also my dog. He's actually the best dog in the world: gentle, clever, affectionate and stunningly beautiful.

Does dd count?! Also my house and mortgage?

On a more serious note - Skechers and Finish platinum dishwasher tablets.

Buy from the perfume parlour in Leicester. The perfumes are identical to the high end and less than a tenner.

Clearly this isn't the thread for povvo tips but maybe somebody will see it and have use of it.

Rainbowshit · 17/12/2022 22:19

GHDs and Dualit toaster. Both been going for nearly two decades.

Heated blanket!

caramac04 · 17/12/2022 22:20

Heat pump tumble dryer. Definitely worth the extra money as half the cost to dry a load which I am doing several times a week during this cold snap.

I have some Avon perfumes that are lovely.

A Canada goose coat - appallingly expensive but in freezing weather the best thing ever for staying warm. And it will last for ever.

Miele washing machine - mine has just died after 20 years faithful service. I feel like I’ve lost a friend.

Oh gross :(
Can’t believe people still buy from Canada Goose.

Our extension. We still comment how much we love our house daily years on.

A fridge/freezer with plumbed in water/ice. I was a bit eye rolly when she said he wanted one but it is brilliant.

Dermalogica moisturiser. I discovered it as a poor student and my fussy skin has never liked anything as much. I use fairly cheap products other than this.

My rapanui towelling hoodie for changing on the beach.

Wool duvet.

Agree on merino, cashmere etc. I buy mostly second hand however.

Birkenstocks. Literally wear mine for about 8 months straight, on the beach and everywhere and still going strong.
