I bought a JOIE 360° car seat which at the time seemed extortionate but when I look at how much ease it has given me over the years I think it was worth every penny.
Ditto expensive Dr Marten boots.

AIBU to ask what you've considered expensive when you bought it but in hindsight realised was worth it?

Probably private health insurance, I had to have 3 surgeries this year for a fibroid including an overnight stay in hospital. On the public system (in Ireland) I'd still be waiting and my quality of life was crap.

Also my house. We bought 4 years ago and would not be able to afford it now.

Good quality wetsuit for winter swimming

BestIsWest · 17/12/2022 21:16

A good bed, mattress topper, decent bed linen and wool duvet.
I’ve just spent a week in mine with flu. Worth every penny.

Heated car seats.
Knitwear.

Kerastase hair products. My hair is so transformed I no longer straighten it.

Do you mind me asking which products you use? Mine is so damaged since having a baby.

RethinkingLife · 17/12/2022 21:18

Miele appliances.

Who is your provider please?

Bupa, via a very large employer. We pay so we are all on the policy.

WetLettuce2 · 17/12/2022 21:18

Buying a horse in my 40s after not riding for 20 years.
Has almost bankrupted me on occasions, but my mental health and work/life balance is 100% better, my stomach is back to pre-kids (no muffin top!), and I usually have a good tan.

Also, Ugg boots, hypnos mattress, down duvets & Egyptian cotton bedding are all worth it.

Choconut · 17/12/2022 21:20

Travel. I try to live cheaply so I can spend as much as possible on travel.

evilharpy · 17/12/2022 21:20

L'Oreal Steam Pod straighteners
Molton Brown shower gel
Ninja Dual air fryer (purchased because of FOMO just before they became mega popular and been used at least once a day ever since)
Tripp Trapp high chair
Sweaty Betty leggings and hoodies
Maldon salt (if that counts - it's not expensive, but is far more expensive than table salt)

Andsoforth · 17/12/2022 21:21

Mine are my 1000 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets. After years of perfectly fine cheap sheets these are like sleeping in a cloud.

Ladurée macarons ruined other macarons for me.

My new windows - our gas usage has dropped significantly since we changed from the old draughty windows. It was a big outlay but with the way things are going they’re going to pay for themselves.

dcut · 17/12/2022 21:21

Ultralightweight tent. Oh what a difference that makes on treks.
And a lightweight winter sleeping bag which was very expensive but is amazing.
Plus hiking boots

motherofgodhaudyerwheesht · 17/12/2022 21:23

Our Everhot range. Could not imagine life without it and would not move to another house that could not have one. Gives joy, warmth, we make all our own bread and eat really lovely food!

Izipizi · 17/12/2022 21:24

really good bedding

GHD hair straighteners. They’re still going after 12 years.

M6 toll road.

Second the GHDs mine must be at least 10 years old now

Leggingslife · 17/12/2022 21:25

DH bought me the steam pod for christmas, he may have let me have it early....utterly life changing and make my old GHD's seem quite crap.

Private hospital and treatment for the birth of DC.

Worth every penny

Same. I had a cheap wedding and spent the money on this instead. The right choice 1 million times over

Joseph Joseph totem style kitchen bin. I paid over £100 for it about 8 years ago. Its saved me money as the cheaper bins would regularly break and need to be replaced while this is still going strong.

What on earth are you doing to your bins to break to so many of them?

I have a cheapo tesco bin with a floppy up lid that’s been going strong for 16 years! Bought it when I first moved out and haven’t had to replace it

kennycat · 17/12/2022 21:26

A Rab knee length down coat. I kept the pabel on for a while and didn't wear it out of the house because I wasn't sure I should be allowed a coat that expensive. Very worth it though. My body is so tasty these days. . My hands on the other hand are ice blocks and I can't do anything with them. They are so painful I cry on cold days.

MingeofDeath · 17/12/2022 21:28

Oh and to the pp suggesting that down is unethical, they might want to Google the toxicity of synthetic duvets.

That does not make it ok to have down products, hardly on the same plane!
