I bought a JOIE 360° car seat which at the time seemed extortionate but when I look at how much ease it has given me over the years I think it was worth every penny.
Ditto expensive Dr Marten boots.

AIBU to ask what you've considered expensive when you bought it but in hindsight realised was worth it?

Timberlands.

I bought some in the sale about 5 years ago for £60 I think it was so about half price.

I've worn them in snow, thick mud, torrential rain and they still look brand new.

When clean, the soles look unworn.

White Company men's towelling dressing gown. Was £££ but still going strong in it's 10th year of use.

Proteinpudding · 17/12/2022 20:34

Technical clothing - brands like Rab, Patagonia etc. Keep me warm but very lightweight and last for years. Some of these items are smart/plain enough that I've been able to wear them when working from home, which has been a godsend given the cost of energy right now.

A decent bike. Lightweight and has the gears I need to get up the hills. An absolute joy to cycle compared to the bikes I used to ride as a kid.

The memberships for the sports I do. Cost me around £150 a month so very much a luxury (can only do this because we've no kids) I do them pretty much every day and they provide me with a whole social life and network of friends.

A Canada goose coat - appallingly expensive but in freezing weather the best thing ever for staying warm. And it will last for ever.

Miele washing machine - mine has just died after 20 years faithful service. I feel like I’ve lost a friend.

Canada goose coats, appalling in every way!

Cups of tea in a cafe. £2.25 a pop but worth every penny. I live alone and sitting in a cafe with my book watching the world go by is uplifting.

I love this

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 17/12/2022 20:37

A new down duvet too plus a linen duvet cover.

Good quality knives

An expensive sofa built to traditional standards. Has already lasted around 18 years and still looks great. Might have a few cat scratches on one corner but you wouldn't know just by looking at it. It has already outlasted a Harvey's and a DFS sofa. Our Next snuggle sofa needed some upholstery work after just one year.

Good car insurance. It’s worth it when you come to need it.

AnnieApple123 · 17/12/2022 20:40

Private medical treatment. The continuity of care and virtually immediate direct access to consultants that the NHS simply isn’t able to offer has been invaluable to my family on several occasions.

Ragwort · 17/12/2022 20:40

Protein that reminds me that I found a Rab jacket at a school jumble sale over ten years ago ... everything was 20p, I insisted on paying more and the person selling it tried to argue with me ... 'oh no, everything is 20p' !! I still wear it now.

I also agree that a down duvet is so superior and worth paying for and I found one in a charity shop.

Timberland boots are great .. mine finally gave up after nearly 20 years .. I was gutted.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 17/12/2022 20:41

Ugg slippers are a good call

Also agree re divorce..

Ecover washing liquid and conditioner- doesn’t smell artificial like other esp cheaper brands

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 17/12/2022 20:41

Oh and to the pp suggesting that down is unethical, they might want to Google the toxicity of synthetic duvets.

LondonLovie · 17/12/2022 20:42

Laser on my varicose veins. Transformed my life and confidence. Literally the ability to wear shorts this summer in the heatwave was just incredible.

GrinchmasEve · 17/12/2022 20:44

Private health cover - we are lucky that our policy covers pre-existing conditions and it has been invaluable.

Doc Martens - my pair are on their third winter and look brand new.

MacmillanMO · 17/12/2022 20:44

Really good mattress, goose down duvet and pillows, high thread count cotton bedding. I don’t really want to get out of bed now!

GHD hair straighteners. They’re still going after 12 years.

M6 toll road.

NoelNoNoel · 17/12/2022 20:45

Dyson hair drier. My hair used to take so long to dry, now I can dry it in a third of the time.

ivykaty44 · 17/12/2022 20:47

M6 toll road.

I rarely use it, but it’s good to have on standby

i do travel the M6 about once a month and have used it twice this year

AnnListersBlister · 17/12/2022 20:49

Botox. Although I have it done as a model which is MUCH cheaper.

TotteringByGenteely · 17/12/2022 20:51

My Rolex watch. I've worn it every day for 20 years and it still makes me feel good.

My Robovac - great to keep on top of the floors inbetween the cleaner coming.

My Campervan - freedom to head off into the sunset whenever I want to.

My dog - he's the best!!
