I bought a JOIE 360° car seat which at the time seemed extortionate but when I look at how much ease it has given me over the years I think it was worth every penny.
Ditto expensive Dr Marten boots.

AIBU to ask what you've considered expensive when you bought it but in hindsight realised was worth it?

My divorce

Cashmere / merino jumpers

Super-wide-calf knee length boots from the Netherlands (cost almost as much in duty as the boots themselves cost, but they are AMAZING)

Bacon and sausages from the local farm shop. Minimal food miles, traceability, high welfare standards, and taste good. Supermarket bacon is the pits at the moment, even Waitrose's!

What brand of boots? I have wide calves/feet (despite only being a size 10-12, very annoying), and live in the Netherlands, so very interested!

@chocolateasaltyballs22 would also like a bean to cup machine recommendation :-)

It's a De Longhi, was around £500 but you can pay much more. Just does espresso or longer black coffees, nothing fancy like latté. Gets used every single day.

@HundredMilesAnHour that’s amazing thank you, I will definitely be trying them.

Hope you enjoy them. I really rate them. Their coffee is excellent but they're priced better than similar quality coffee roasters/shops (where you'd be paying £40+ for a kilo instead of £28). They're one of my local independents who managed to survive lockdown by selling eggs and toilet rolls etc out of their front door.

P!ease tell me how good your ninja foodie ?is we have just got one today I have wanted one for ages but couldn't justify the cost my dh,had a work bonus so we figured it would be beneficial for the family .

We've just bought one. I'm still getting used to it but i find the pressure cooker fabulous and I can do bacon and sausage in the air fryer and the grill if need be. I not done any baking in it yet but plan to give it a go

Flying business/first class. I’m not exhausted at my destination thus enjoying my time away more and also saving on annual leave! Contact lenses, Egyptian cotton sheets (with a minimum thread count of 500), my mattress, plantation shutters & a good pair of shoes!

Joseph Joseph totem style kitchen bin. I paid over £100 for it about 8 years ago. Its saved me money as the cheaper bins would regularly break and need to be replaced while this is still going strong.

I agree, love our Joseph Joseph totem bin, probs had it the same amount of time as you and it's still going strong. Great buy.

Probably private health insurance, I had to have 3 surgeries this year for a fibroid including an overnight stay in hospital. On the public system (in Ireland) I'd still be waiting and my quality of life was crap.

Also my house. We bought 4 years ago and would not be able to afford it now.

I only waited a few weeks to have a fibroid and polyps removed from my uterus on the NHS. And they sent me to a private hospital to have it done!

aifai · 20/12/2022 17:27

A £250 blender. Not sure what I was thinking

JFM27 · 20/12/2022 18:20

Cashmere jumpers had some 20 years still ok.White stuff bath robes had 2 about 20 years if not longer still wear them, and my black suede high heels .ive tiny feet size 2 and can rarely buy shoes on high street, buy 3 boots and kids trainers though occasionally some firms do a 2.but heels only from specialist companies.i paid £100 for them about 20 years ago havent dated and still look good.

HundredMilesAnHour · 20/12/2022 18:37

Slippers from A Andreassen. Scandinavian style (and comfort!) at its best. I've had a pair of the felt ones for years as my 'travel slippers' but also love their mules for work in summer. Wonderful quality.

alltoomuchrightnow · 20/12/2022 21:16

Muck Boots, nearly 9 yrs going strong now, no damage, so warm.
Estee Lauder Double Wear Light foundation and Double Wear Concealer
Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder
Ugg slippers . Washed several times too and put in dryer
Most Lush products.. I don't like the quality of the makeup but shampoos and Dream Cream are perfect for me.. and my mum swears by Helping Hands so I always buy her that as presents
Pet insurance.. can barely afford but peace of mind..

alltoomuchrightnow · 20/12/2022 21:17

Cath Kidston bedding

alltoomuchrightnow · 20/12/2022 21:20

Lip filler.. for me v natural look... def not the duck pout look..but I had no top lip and just look 'balanced out' now
Eyebrows tattooed on (semi perm, not micro bladed) as lost them to thyroid disease. I look like the old me again for the first time in decades.. really turned the clock back

OldFan · 20/12/2022 21:56

Would anyone like a weighted blanket? I didn't personally like the sensation but it's quite a good weighted blanket. I'm in Birmingham- not using it so I wouldn't bother charging anything for it or anything. Feel free to PM.

@HundredMilesAnHour just placed my first order. Thank you very much. Ordered kingsland, Columbia and some decaf. Can’t wait to try it!!!

RosesAndHellebores · 20/12/2022 22:33

@alltoomuchrightnow I lost most of my eyebrows due to thyroid disease and after ds was born, 28 years ago, all my arm hair left as well, and most of my leg hair (thrilled about the latter). I wasn't very hairy to begin with.

alltoomuchrightnow · 20/12/2022 22:45

Roses, I never really had leg hair (was called Shiny Legs at school!) I had it lifelong but not diagnosed until 33.. by which point I was almost in a coma. Lost the eyebrows but head hair is fine now as long as I keep up the vit D intake (high strength) I'm happy I rarely have to bother with legs and pits but I'd still rather be hairy and have my old brows and lashes back

These coats are unethical

Read about how they have been made!!?

Totally agree, wouldn't even have one if they were free ! I have morals !

PoorlyDuck · 21/12/2022 17:59

@alltoomuchrightnow have you tried Revitalash? I have thyroid disease and use lancome mascara.

ihatethecold · 21/12/2022 18:11

Where are people buying their lovely bed sheets from. Id love to upgrade mine

Sinthie · 21/12/2022 19:20

Great thread!
Burberry coat I’ve had over 10 years
Prada bag, again over 10 years old
Cartier watch - timeless 😉
All bought before I had kids (and had money 😆)
L’occitane moisturiser, perfume, shower oil
Liz Earle shampoo
Denby crockery
Le Creuset griddle pan
Sweaty Betty leggings

BadShepherd · 21/12/2022 19:32

@ihatethecold king of cotton for my 1000 Ct Egyptian cotton. I’ve also been pleasantly surprised by joules - but caveat, I bought the joules 6 years ago so can’t attest to quality in 2022!

ihatethecold · 21/12/2022 19:47

Thanks @BadShepherd

RosesAndHellebores · 21/12/2022 19:49

@Sinthie
Yes indeed. I have a Burberry Trench bought in 1984 for £175. TBF it is looking tired now.
Similarly a Cartier watch more than 30 years old.
L'Occitane - fabulous - cheaper in France but worth every penny.
Le Creuset - a bit heavy if I'm honest.
Denby - yep. Had Memories from 1981 to 2005 (it got very tired looking as well as dated - DC had it split up for uni), have had Denby White since 2007 - might have been discontinued - haven't seen muchnof it about and the Memories genre seems to be coming back.
