I bought a JOIE 360° car seat which at the time seemed extortionate but when I look at how much ease it has given me over the years I think it was worth every penny.
Ditto expensive Dr Marten boots.

AIBU to ask what you've considered expensive when you bought it but in hindsight realised was worth it?

Proper sheepskin snow boots
High thread count duvet covers
Nimbus Duvet and Pillows
My Brest Friend breastfeeding pillow - so worth it!
Le Cruset griddle pan for cooking steak
Global Knives
Microphone graters
Good coats - Helly Hansen waterproof for walks and a smart wool/cashmere for work

Jack80 · 18/12/2022 18:49

Ghd’s, Dyson hair dryer, dr martens but I wouldn’t be without any of them.

Mary54 · 18/12/2022 18:50

My dh bought me a Kenwood major industrial food processor for Christmas 15+ years ago. No idea what it cost but I suspect megabucks.
I do not consider cooking a hobby but a necessity so not something I would ever have asked for but wouldn’t now be without it. I bake bread several times a week and had previously burnt out several cheap food processors (Bosch and co). Also copes with Christmas cakes, puddings etc without turning a hair.

Mangotango123 · 18/12/2022 18:57

My Thermomix and Botox.

Thisisnotreallymyname · 18/12/2022 19:00

Good bed and mattress,
Quooker tap ….my Best Buy for years

LitralViolins · 18/12/2022 19:04

My Brora biker boots - worn endlessly for the last couple of winters and look brand-new still. So stylish, warm and comfy. I'm very tempted by a pair of Solovair boots after reading this thread though!

Cashmere, merino or pure wool for knitwear / gloves / scarves etc, always. I feel the cold, and jumpers in artificial fibres do absolutely nothing to keep the cold out.

Tauer perfumes. Such good quality.

I'm a cheapskate on many things and almost never buy at full price if i can get a bargain, though.

My Shower Gem. Thought it was expensive but love it and had it ages.

Yes I agree - best £40 I’ve ever spent on a shower caddy. Highly recommended!

3Blues · 18/12/2022 19:06

Redken shampoo and conditioner - sounds ridiculous but it bloody works
Gumbies slippers and flip flops - not extortionate but used to wince at more than £15 for a pair of slippers. They last FOREVER, recycled materials and they're the comfiest things.

GiveMeStrength31 · 18/12/2022 19:12

A years membership to a pilates studio. An investment in my health!

Agehdidbfkgjsgwgzbzk · 18/12/2022 19:21

Snowfairyxx · 18/12/2022 19:24

Ninja foodi
Brabantia bin - I know it's a bin but nicer and better quality than cheap ones I have had before and will last so worth it.
Good shampoo and conditioner
Seen someone has said Moroccan oil, I have been looking at it for a while and asked my husband to get me some for Christmas so looking forward to trying it.

Pixie2015 · 18/12/2022 19:29

Good quality balsamic vinegar and dual action gaviscon tablets - both worth the extra.

lush bath bombs nicer than any others

CoconutQueen · 18/12/2022 19:37

Disneyworld Florida. Saved for years and years for this and worth every penny. 😊

KiwiMum2023 · 18/12/2022 19:43

How does the sparking element of your tap fare? DH drinks a LOT of sparking water, but the soda streams don’t last as well as you’d hope (2 in 10 years) and the canisters can be tricky to get hold of. New kitchen next year and seriously considering it.

Our sparkling tap had a fault, but now it’s been fixed it’s great. Far better than bottled or previous soda stream

My friend says a cleaner. I am debating getting her details, just to do bathrooms and kitchens so they’re sparkling every other week. Can afford it but not sure whether it’s wrong to considering we have a small home

Definitely not wrong! Providing you get a good reliable cleaner, they are worth their weight in gold.

My hairdresser: £100 colour and trim every 6-7 weeks. My mane is my pride and glory. My perfume: Opium original and black..Dermalogica skin perfect primer. The only one I will use.

Though I must admit to spending more than I should on Christmas and the grandchildren now. The adult youngsters don't do too bad out of it either.

AnnieSnap · 18/12/2022 20:55

I think we generally (though not always) get what we pay for. An exception for me is my modestly priced small town hairdresser who is at least as good a Sasoon, Toni and Guy and other such salons that I have used in the past. Quality (not flash name designers) clothing is worth the extra money to me. It rarely wears out, is more stylish and more comfortable (made with better fabrics) than cheap stuff. Business class long haul flights are expensive, but worth every Penny to me and my DH.

I’ve never had a good cut in a big name city centre hair salon. I think they are generally not as good because they are in prime locations and get plenty of passing trade and don’t have to worry so much about return custom.

LaDamaDeElche · 18/12/2022 21:07

A good hairdresser

FancyFran · 18/12/2022 21:11

So good people I have been out shopping today.
Waitrose Chateaubriand, omg.
Vinatage champagne for my guests ditto (these are bolly girls, they liked it better).
Hypnos mattress, we have a tempur, it is killing us. Too tall and fat.
McKays vanilla ice cream
Wolford tights if you still wear them.
Duo boots.
A volvo but no longer affordable
Marks food but I object to 25%on a cheese scone.

Ericaequites · 18/12/2022 21:13

@KimberleyClark Most expensive makeup manufactured in US/UK/EU/Japan/Australia contains the same quality ingredients found in drugstore brands like Cover Girl and Revlon. My organic chemistry professor told the class this over thirty years ago.
My Shifman mattress is great. It’s one of the firmest mattresses available commercially, and it’s lasted 16 years with little wear.
My classic sealpoint Siamese. She is a great companion, and even helps me choose shoes.

RockingAmadeus · 18/12/2022 21:25

I love this thread. Some of my choices are: Laser eye surgery 20+ years ago, a total miracle, French butter, my naughty Maine Coon kitten, Heated faux fur throw, Rioja and Manchego cheese, a perfect combo, M&S Heatgen thermals, Byredo perfumes. Lots more, many already been listed.
