I bought a JOIE 360° car seat which at the time seemed extortionate but when I look at how much ease it has given me over the years I think it was worth every penny.
Ditto expensive Dr Marten boots.

AIBU to ask what you've considered expensive when you bought it but in hindsight realised was worth it?

Protein that reminds me that I found a Rab jacket at a school jumble sale over ten years ago ... everything was 20p, I insisted on paying more and the person selling it tried to argue with me ... 'oh no, everything is 20p' !! I still wear it now.

I also agree that a down duvet is so superior and worth paying for and I found one in a charity shop.

Timberland boots are great .. mine finally gave up after nearly 20 years .. I was gutted.

Blimey! You sound lucky!

You aren't Jack Monroe, are you?

😄

100g of iberico bellota from bar tozino

My lulu Guinness leather cole cross body bag, i deliberated over it for so long and finally caved and got it. It's the most I've ever spent on a handbag but I bloody love it and use it all the time. So well worth the money.

@Ladyof2022 This is brilliant to hear.

Not least as I’m eyeing up a very spendy- though sadly not as glorious sounding - coat at the moment.

I bought a scarlet pure wool swing coat 20-odd years ago from Clockwise at C&A (remember them?) It was reduced from £80 to £20 in the sale and I agonised over it because we were n the bones of our backsides at the time.

Like @Ladyof2022 I have worn that, coat every year since. It still fits even thought I have gone from a 10 to a 16, because of the loose-fitting style. No cashmere, unfortunately, but as I say, pure wool and it still looks fabulous. (Mine has a black velvet collar, though.

Would have been worth every penny even at eighty quid.

Before I had children to support, I used to import a leg of Bellota from Spain each Christmas and demolish the whole thing over a week or so! Bellota and good red wine is the best thing ever.

May reinstigate this tradition in retirement!!

Kitchen stand mixer. After an accident I couldn't bake easily anymore. Now I can bake with absolute ease. It's been a life changer for me, which seems dramatic over a kitchen appliance. But baking brings me so much joy as well as feeling like I got some independence back

Figmentofmyimagination · 18/12/2022 13:29

Every book I ever want. Growing up, we were v poor and as a child/uni student I barely owned any books of my own. I now buy far too many - history mainly - I cannot walk past an independent bookshop and hardly ever fail to emerge with something I haven’t seen or thought about before. Paperback always, but because of convenience, not cost. I have not had serious money worries for many years, after growing up v poor, and even though I can afford a lot of things, still it’s casually buying books just because I feel like it that brings home to me the joy of not having to worry about money. I still remember having a boyfriend who bought cassettes etc Willy nilly and being in complete awe, when all my cassettes were copies I’d made myself.

Another Dualit toaster fan here, also Vitamix , good quality kitchenware lasts a long time and makes life easier.
Good to see very little mention of designer fashion brands.

longtompot · 18/12/2022 13:34

Our new to us car. It's a 64 plate Freelander 2 and the amount of wonderful things on it is amazing, the heated seats alone are a revelation.

woodhill · 18/12/2022 13:42

Yes to good quality kitchen stuff

Tupperware is brilliant and worth the price tag

Le Creuset as well

Nice China too

Wizzelina · 18/12/2022 13:43

having financial security meaning we don’t have to worry about rising costs so much.

being able to afford to help our DD

Wizzelina · 18/12/2022 13:44

Sorry wrong thread 😳

Newwardrobe · 18/12/2022 13:47

My iPad , it must be about 10 years old now but I have used it every day, I listen to podcasts to help me sleep and it's kept me company when I've felt lonely as I have gone down rabbit holes whist googling things.

Bananasinpyjamas21 · 18/12/2022 13:49

Staying at home for 7 years to look after my special needs son, and help him with therapies and hands on support that he needed. My career took a massive hit, my pension also. But it’s the best thing I’ve ever done, my son can talk and communicate. Worth everything.

I’d also second really nice bed linen. So cosy! Next saving up for a decent mattress… one day!

DailyMailReporterTellMeAllYourSecrets · 18/12/2022 13:49

A mattress. Ours was £1600 in the sale plus we got the headboard which was another £800. Seriously, it’s like sleeping on a cloud ☁️ And it’s SuperKing so we’ve got loads of space.

These coats are unethical

Read about how they have been made!!?

Canada Goose coats are well known and loved by the luxury industry as being one of the highest-margin products out there, meaning the cost of materials is tiny compared to the cost of sale. The mark up is c600x. Does it make you feel good to know you’ve been utterly ripped off for your purchase, as well as the fact it’s also a brand well known for animal cruelty on a huge scale?

Next time buy a proper coat from a British-made brand (Rab, Finisterre, sure there are loads of others).

Usernamen · 18/12/2022 13:52

Margaret Howell knitwear.

Happtimescoming · 18/12/2022 13:53

My oodie 😂…not expensive in the grand scheme of things, but a lot for me to spend on essentially a massive fluffy blanket. I’m considering getting another! Also agree on expensive kitchen stuff our pans and knives have lasted us years. Also, weirdly, nursery fees….so expensive but it’s been great for my DDs and obviously means I can carry on working and get me time

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 18/12/2022 12:51

Maxmara cashmere coat
Hermes handbag
Ugg Slippers
Brinkhaus duvet/pillows
Haastens bed
Yves Delorme bedding/towels
Duresta sofas

There are loads..

Oh my, I love this list. The coat sounds lush, especially!

I'm enjoying reading this thread, seeing things I may or may not consider for future purchases. I don't have a need for every one nor have the budget for some.

I do find it really annoying that there are posters who come on a pleasant, easy going thread to pick apart other people's choices, due to tone deafness or being unethical.

Are you this judgy to your friends and family or do you save it for when you can be on an anonymous thread?

This!

Denby crockery and pans.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 18/12/2022 14:11

Dental implant
Muck boots
Le Creuset casseroles - I'll probably be leaving them to my DC in my will the way they are lasting!
