I bought a JOIE 360° car seat which at the time seemed extortionate but when I look at how much ease it has given me over the years I think it was worth every penny.
Ditto expensive Dr Marten boots.

AIBU to ask what you've considered expensive when you bought it but in hindsight realised was worth it?

A private hip replacement operation that uses a technique not available on the NHS.

I am in full agreement with you about private doctors and surgery

I’m enjoying reading this thread and it’s making me smile to think of people enjoying their luxury items or services- there’s so much doom & gloom in the world it’s lovely to talk about happier things for once!
Sorry if not everyone can afford luxury items (I can’t afford some of the things people have mentioned but fair play to those that can). It’s supposed to be a light hearted thread so let’s try to keep it that way.

Absolutely this.

Favourite thread in a while - thanks OP!

Ditto laser hair removal

MrsRinaDecker · 18/12/2022 11:52

North face winter coat.
Semi regular salon blow dries and a cut and colour a few times a year (I used to hate my hair.. feeling good when I look at it is a huge boost to my self esteem, plus I’m carving out that ‘me time’).

Clinique make up / skincare.
Hellofresh boxes (worth it for the mental load and I really enjoy the meals).

Mini iPad. I dithered for ages about getting it, but the first time I took it on holiday it really justified itself - I didn't have to pack books, it had local maps and details of local attractions, I put films and podcasts onto it for the journey, used it for taking photos, and general netsurfing. It's brilliant.

Ooh yes love mine. Going on a long haul holiday next month and for the first time will not be taking any books, have loaded up the IPad instead. I think the iBooks app is better than the kindle app. And yes, films, podcasts, music and games for the journey.

Good dental care regime. So a decent electric toothbrush (I have a sonicare and love it) and interdental brushes- not expensive in themselves but add up when using them every day.

That and 6 monthly visits to my wonderful hygienist and annually with the dentist and never had a problem. Expensive but so so worth it.

The rest of my family are constantly having problems with pain, broken fillings etc, which they blame on genetics but I’d hazard a guess it’s because their teeth have never seen a piece of floss and they only visit the dentist in dire emergencies.

My hideously expensive to run cats. Worth every single penny of their humongous insurance premium!

Toddlerteaplease · 18/12/2022 12:04

My coffee machine. Saved me a fortune!

Cups of tea in a cafe. £2.25 a pop but worth every penny. I live alone and sitting in a cafe with my book watching the world go by is uplifting.

And this too. It's an absolute lifeline. And some days the only way I'd actually see anyone.

Tell me about your wool duvet - I’m considering one. Which thickness did you go for?

Love this thread!
Mine is regular manicures, keratin blow dries - just helps looking vaguely put together.

Thank you for the wish list. Small request to please include brands! Foundation and bed linen have come up a few times and I'd love to know what people love.

Already on vinted looking up cashmere jumpers!

Pelo22 · 18/12/2022 12:16

@Mirabai I have the woolroom classic warm one because I get cold! My dad bought it me one Christmas and was very dad like about it, prodding it, going "hmmm" and examining the labels
A week later he had one on his bed Grin and also loves it
They're quite flat and not cloud like poofy duvets. I inject a medication that gives me a high temperature and sweats/shivers weekly and it's worth it just for that because I don't wake up as much drenched in sweat. Rarely get too warm and I add a blanket in very cold weather (like the last week)

HootOwlStrikesAgain · 18/12/2022 12:17

A Canada goose coat - appallingly expensive but in freezing weather the best thing ever for staying warm. And it will last for ever.

Miele washing machine - mine has just died after 20 years faithful service. I feel like I’ve lost a friend.

I've had mine for 6 years and this week I've literally worshipped it during the cold weather.

I had a Faithful Washing machine, he lasted 17 years!
I'm not sure of maker, now, think possibly Indesit, but John Lewis said ''You won't get them made like that these days, they used to be made in Italy, made to last.
