I bought a JOIE 360° car seat which at the time seemed extortionate but when I look at how much ease it has given me over the years I think it was worth every penny.
Ditto expensive Dr Marten boots.

AIBU to ask what you've considered expensive when you bought it but in hindsight realised was worth it?

Anything Miele. All appliances still going strong 15 years later

Car that starts and warms up using an app on my phone - it’s been invaluable in these minus temps with a baby.

private healthcare
uggs
vispring mattress - I think we will pass this down to my dc, I don’t sleep well anywhere else but home
now
birkenstocks - really tough and hard wearing
anolon kitchen knives
spent £100 on my cat years ago when that was expensive, she was my furry companion, so sweet and loving, I miss her all the time
Lightweight long down coat from uniqlo - so easy to squish and stuff in places when not needed, warm but easy to forget you are wearing it

Ice and water dispensing fridge
Ninja foodie, it's used every day, makes great roasts and soup
Real wool, alpaca and silk yarn for knitting, the finished results are so worth the time and expense
Private health insurance
Condensing tumble dryer

Pet Plan insurance - there are much cheaper options available, but most have an annual limit. Having been given an estimate of £10k - £12k vet bill when our cat was severely injured by a car, knowing we had complete cover was such a comfort. There's no way we'd have been able to save him otherwise.

Podiatrist.
Perfume.
Migraine glasses (imported).

disabilityama · 18/12/2022 00:37

My wheelchair. Cost nearly 3k including the batteries and a proper cushion, but it's my freedom and I use it most days.

Wetblanket78 · 18/12/2022 00:38

LG Smart fridge freezer. Fridge part has more than twice the storage space of our old one. I can now get all our fruit and veg in and no longer have a problem with fruit fly. Also have plenty of room for jars which means they last longer. So less waste. Well worth paying twice what I usually pay.

Good quality (comfy) shoes

Good quality, memory foam, king sized mattress

I spend most of my life in one or the other of them!

lurkinglittleladybug · 18/12/2022 00:42

Loccitane hand cream, Estée Lauder double wear foundation, only curls towels, silk lined wool hat, silk bonnet and hair products, joules socks / scarves.

These are my spurge items everything else I’m very frugal and try to save money, there’s a lot of expensive brands I like too for clothing but will always look for deals on eBay or in sales, I rarely pay full price for anything.

gavisconismyfriend · 18/12/2022 00:43

Decent matress
wool duvets
top of the range AEG washing machine and dryer
handmade clothes - I’m fat and having dresses that actually fit me makes the world of difference to my confidence

My Sage bean to cup coffee machine

HangingOver · 18/12/2022 00:44

My injector 😂 Costs a fortune but I wouldn't trust anyone else with my face

Also Neom anything. Good bed sheets.

To quote one of my favourite books "Never skimp on tyres or towels, then your way will be safe and your arse will be dry"

A down duvet. Bedtime is now absolute bliss!

Now I had a down duvet, and bought a Baavet pillow, decided that was so good a wool duvet had to be tried. Would never go back to down!

lurkinglittleladybug · 18/12/2022 00:47

Oh yes I forgot my durabed mattress (comfiest mattress I have ever slept on!) , and John Lewis bedding, feather duvet and pillows, and John Lewis high thread count sheets… My bed feels like a 5 star hotel bed😁

Dualit six slice toaster

OooScotland · 18/12/2022 00:47

Cat litter disposal bin and bags (similar set up to a nappy bin). Doesn’t sound indispensable but it totally is. Very expensive for a (admittedly well designed to keep the smell in) plastic bin and a roll of bags though.

OooScotland · 18/12/2022 00:47

This thread has me wanting a wool duvet now…

reesewithoutaspoon · 18/12/2022 01:00

large expensive heated throw. Upgraded from a basic one and its been worth every penny this winter, kept my heating bills right down.
Airfryer, can't remember the last time I used my oven now
Good quality walking boots and clothes. I love walking now, doesn't matter the weather I can hike in it and stay warm and dry

Whynobreadpudding · 18/12/2022 01:08

My DH bought a new wool blanket last week costing nearly 100 pound, I was sceptical but it is really warm.

Dentistlakes · 18/12/2022 01:09

A personal trainer and my gym membership. It’s made a massive difference to my fitness to learn how to lift weights safely and with good form. Hopefully the investment will pay dividends as I get older.

Mezmer · 18/12/2022 01:11

Buy corn litter and flush it.

Leaving an abusive man

Knives, I had to leave my fancy ones behind and now have some cheap ones I got in a cheap kitchenware bundle off fb market place and I now hate cooking because they're bloody useless and it just reminds me of how much I gave up. But hey, I used to live in fear of waking up to one of those fancy knives embedded in my chest so there's that 😬 thankfully these knives would just bend in half!

Oodies, so warm!
