I bought a JOIE 360° car seat which at the time seemed extortionate but when I look at how much ease it has given me over the years I think it was worth every penny.
Ditto expensive Dr Marten boots.

AIBU to ask what you've considered expensive when you bought it but in hindsight realised was worth it?

Buy corn litter and flush it.

Why? I posted saying I like the bin very much. I’m not looking for an alternative and won’t be flushing litter under any circumstances. Thanks though 🙄

Leaving an abusive man

Knives, I had to leave my fancy ones behind and now have some cheap ones I got in a cheap kitchenware bundle off fb market place and I now hate cooking because they're bloody useless and it just reminds me of how much I gave up. But hey, I used to live in fear of waking up to one of those fancy knives embedded in my chest so there's that 😬 thankfully these knives would just bend in half!

Oodies, so warm!

Sympathy - having divorced an abusive man, still have residual PTSD and don't think I could ever have a knife block (just the thought of them being too accessible...)
Apologies for slight derail.

Thought of another one - recently acquired linen bedlinen and it is unbelievable, I cannot even describe how amazing it feels on the skin and I am fussy about 100% cotton and high thread counts.

Funny how no one has said their children.....

Just hearing the words Uggs and Canada Goose makes me want to vomit. Glad they've brought you owners lots of joy.

I paid £3500 for a sofa that lasted us 15 years, our new rescue dog chewed it to bits gradually - the frame was still there, but every other piece of was destroyed 🤣. Found a second hand one on gumtree for pennies, and I was sick of that expensive, old and smelly sofa anyway.

Perhaps I could turn the into a pair of slippers and a lovely winter jacket?

Vegay · 18/12/2022 02:06

Turn the *pup into a pair of slippers and lovely winter jacket 🤢

Oh gross :(
Can’t believe people still buy from Canada Goose.

Can’t believe people are so naive to not realise that just about everything in this world is unethical. How people love to jump on the band wagon they clearly know nothing about!

Brokendaughter · 18/12/2022 02:16

Decent bed, mattress & bedding.
I paid a lot for very good quality bedding & it has lasted over a decade showing no signs of age yet.

I have 3 sets for each bed, (1 on the bed, one in the wash, one in the airing cupboard) & 11 months of the year they are in rotation - Christmas I have a set of bedding we just use in December.

You spend so much of your life in bed, more than you spend pretty much anywhere else in your house, so my bed & bedding was a priority for me.

I have dabbled in trying cheaper fleece sheets in the winter, which seem great for the first few weeks, but they wear out in a season & I'm not convinced they are worth it.

Maybe you should be looking at where the wood and fabric for your sofa came from, how it as sourced and who made it then shipped it. You might then add sofa to your list of ‘vomit words’.

@Louiselady500 it is you that needs to educate yourself, and yes, nothing is 100% ethical, but on a scale of 1-10, Canada Goose is in the minus figures.

Cups of tea in a cafe. £2.25 a pop but worth every penny. I live alone and sitting in a cafe with my book watching the world go by is uplifting.

I agree! I wfh and have a daily Costa

Your comments just show how naive you must be. Take a really good look at where your clothes and food comes from. Canada Goose don’t come close to some of the shit going on in food and clothes production.

Vegay · 18/12/2022 02:31

@Louiselady500I'm naive? Please do tell. Just for the record, I'm an ethical vegan, so I don't consume any animal or any animal product, and that extends to the clothes I wear and all the products I buy. Nothing I buy is tested on animals or derived from animal products, apart from medication - that, I have no control over. Go on, tell me how much water avocados or cashews consume in water and are detrimental to the environment. I can tell you now why Uggs and Canada Goose are disgusting.

There Is no such thing as an ethical vegan. If you can’t see that then I’m wasting my breath. I’m assuming you don’t include children in your animal exploitation principles.

@Louiselady500 of course there is such a thing as an ethical vegan - it's actually now a protected characteristic, so you'd best do some reading. There is no such thing as a perfect vegan though, because perfection isn't obtainable by humankind. You'd also be wrong, and a bit of a twat, to suggest that just because someone is a vegan, they don't give a shit about children. I personally don't particularly like children, but I'd do my best to help any child that needed help.

melcalfe · 18/12/2022 03:10

My live in nanny.

She's costing us a fortune and she's worth every penny. I can literally go and relax/have a nap whenever I want.
My PND disappeared.

Saladd0dger · 18/12/2022 03:11

Dr martens boots also. At the time I did not drive so totally deserved a nice pair of boots to keep my feet warm and dry x

You’re missing my points entirely. I rest my case.

Vegay · 18/12/2022 03:14

@Louiselady500 with all due respect, you haven't made any points. You like animals to suffer and therefore are happy to buy UGGs and Canada Goose, and I think it is revolving. What points did you make?

Vegay · 18/12/2022 03:16

Just to clarify, that was revolting- you do you.

Loccitane hand cream, Estée Lauder double wear foundation, only curls towels, silk lined wool hat, silk bonnet and hair products, joules socks / scarves.

These are my spurge items everything else I’m very frugal and try to save money, there’s a lot of expensive brands I like too for clothing but will always look for deals on eBay or in sales, I rarely pay full price for anything.

I've spent a freaking fortune over the years trying to find a Double Wear alternative.
Conclusion: there isn't one. It's simply the best.
