Radiator in kitchen

I had an incident yesterday and needed my neighbour's help. He noticed I had a radiator in the kitchen and said it was unusual. I said every house I have lived in has had a radiator in the kitchen. He's saying no one he knows has a radiator in their kitchen.
So AIBU to ask if you have a radiator in your kitchen?

Yes a big long one .
Love coming down and making coffee in the morning in a toasty kitchen.
My mum doesn't and her kitchen is like a fridge

DrMadelineMaxwell · 15/12/2022 19:38

No. We had to fit the central heating when we had the dd's as we'd not had it before then.

The kitchen is far too fucking tiny to fit even the smallest radiator into.

PinkiOcelot · 15/12/2022 19:38

Yes I do. Can’t imagine not really.

Sage396 · 15/12/2022 19:38

Our house was built in 1997 and we have a small radiator in the dining section of the room and a longer radiator in the kitchen section.

AlwaysLatte · 15/12/2022 19:39

We have two, is it not cold without any?

Hadalifeonce · 15/12/2022 19:40

I do

Honeyroar · 15/12/2022 19:45

Yes. We have two, it’s a big kitchen. And it’s still cold!

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 15/12/2022 19:47

My current bungalow doesn't have one in the kitchen, but the last 3 places I lived all had a radiator or storage heater in the kitchen.

FuckingHateRats · 15/12/2022 19:49

We do. Right under the window. I'm going to move it when we redo the kitchen.

UnsolicitedOpinions · 15/12/2022 19:50

I do - two in fact. God job cos it’s still fucking freezing down one end.

OldTinHat · 15/12/2022 19:57

I never have until I moved into the house I'm in now. My parents and my sister are radiator-less in their kitchens too!

pelargoniums · 15/12/2022 20:00

Yes in the current house and it’s not enough, vast room the previous owners knocked together (badly) and decided to heat with one crap small single-skin rad.

Previous house we put in a column one; previous flat no radiator but the kitchen was a TINY barely legal galley and we put in a radiator in the hall opposite the doorway.

Trying to picture friends’ and parents’ houses… fairly certain they’ve all got radiators. But mostly have eat-in kitchens even if it’s the world’s smallest table and chairs crammed in. Possibly I’d do without a radiator in a room just for cooking, if I had a separate dining room.

LadyChamberlain · 15/12/2022 20:00

We didn't when we moved in but got one installed very quickly.

c3pu · 15/12/2022 20:04

My house has a small kitchen so there's not really any space for a radiator. It's the only room in the house without one though and just leaving the door open warms it up, if you're cooking there's heat from the oven/hob and generally moving about in there keeps the chill at bay even during a tough cold snap.

Minikievs · 15/12/2022 20:37

Two. I wish there were more, it's fucking freezing in my kitchen

Craftybodger · 15/12/2022 20:48

I have 2, one at either end of the kitchen. One’s a single, the other a double.

If you don’t have a radiator where do you put the teatowels?

mogsrus · 15/12/2022 20:49

Every house we’ve owned yes. Where we live now we had one & in utility room, removed both to install a wet driven kick plate in utility, belting warmth that does both rooms do more room & of course in the summer it will blow around cooling air

entropynow · 15/12/2022 20:55

Yes, we have one, so does next door, my late mum did. All older properties.
Depends on the house and kitchen design.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 15/12/2022 20:55

IneedanewTV · 15/12/2022 18:43

I don’t. But I wish I did as it’s freezing. Another job for next summer I think.

Same. Victorian flat that didn't have heating when I moved in, and I really regret not having a radiator in the kitchen - which hasn't got above 10 degrees the last week, even though it is south facing and gets the sun.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 15/12/2022 20:57

Reading this thread I'm really glad I'm not the only person with a freezing kitchen!

TheSoapyFrog · 15/12/2022 20:57

I do. It's never on because it's always warm in the kitchen. Most houses I've lived in or visited have had one.

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/12/2022 20:58

I don’t but my kitchen is tiny

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/12/2022 20:58

Saying that, I can think of a couple of people with medium sized kitchens who don’t either

IToldYouAmillionTimesAlready · 15/12/2022 20:58

I've lived in my house for 31 years but only had a radiator put in the kitchen about 4 years ago

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 15/12/2022 20:59

Lived in several houses, not one has had a radiator in the kitchen.
