Radiator in kitchen

I had an incident yesterday and needed my neighbour's help. He noticed I had a radiator in the kitchen and said it was unusual. I said every house I have lived in has had a radiator in the kitchen. He's saying no one he knows has a radiator in their kitchen.
So AIBU to ask if you have a radiator in your kitchen?

Ours doesn't

confusedlots · 15/12/2022 21:05

How strange. I've never lived in a house without a radiator in the kitchen, and I'm trying to picture friends kitchens now and am pretty sure they all have radiators, with the exception of those that have underfloor heating

anythinginapinch · 15/12/2022 21:06

Nope. It was horrified at first but actually I don't notice!

Thanks for settling the discussion everyone 😁

Yes I do, so does my mum. I can’t remember any house I’ve lived in which didn’t have one. How else are you supposed to keep it heated? You won’t have the cooker on all day

Redcrayons · 15/12/2022 21:11

Yes, but in the dining bit rather than the cooking side. It would be freezing if I didn’t.
f I was redoing the kitchen I would splash out on underfloor heating as the radiator takes up too much wall space.

mogsrus · 15/12/2022 21:12

They do take up some usable room though no matter how big or wherever they install them. Don’t really understand why kickplate heaters are not more thought about.

This is word for word what I was about to say.

Ricco12 · 15/12/2022 21:23

We have two radiators and underfloor heating in our kitchen

AuntyMabelandPippin · 15/12/2022 21:26

The only kitchen in five houses that had one had it speedily removed when we moved in. Kitchens don't need radiators, if it's absolutely freezing, put a gas ring on for five minutes and that'll sort it.

Skiphopbump · 15/12/2022 21:29

The only places I lived without one in the kitchen were both flats with tiny kitchens.

StoneofDestiny · 15/12/2022 21:30

Ours has 2 and every house I've lived in had radiators in the kitchen, in fact I've never been in a kitchen without one.
Why would you want to have a cold kitchen?

BrilliantGreenFlamingo · 15/12/2022 21:30

No. And my kitchen is 11 degrees. Have to put my coat on. It’s horrible.

jaundicedoutlook · 15/12/2022 21:33

We have two. The cat enjoys sleeping on the windowsill above the big one.

Our previous (Victorian) house didn’t as the kitchen was fairly small. We ended up having to put an under-unit electric heater in as it got really cold in the winter.

SquigglePigs · 15/12/2022 21:36

The house I'm in now doesn't, there's no space for one. It's open into the lounge and there's one just through the door so temp is ok. My previous house had a huge one along one wall and both my parents and my in-laws have radiators in theirs. Rented houses as a student generally didn't but they were always tiny!

Clovacloud · 15/12/2022 21:37

No, the kitchen is 8ftx8ft and no space for one. I’d love one this time of year!

allboysherebutme · 15/12/2022 21:38

We have had in our last two kitchens, but my first flat never. X

Iknowhim · 15/12/2022 21:40

Mine does but it's always off as it's behind the fridge and freezer.

SomethingOriginal2 · 15/12/2022 21:41

Yes and it's tiny, it's totally pointless though, it's a slim tall one . My last house the kitchen was the same size as the living room and had two.

BatshitBanshee · 15/12/2022 21:45

Yes I do - one long rad and an aga.

But in our previous house when we redid the kitchen we didn't have rads put in, just underfloor heating.

Jerrythejam · 15/12/2022 21:48

I never knew it was a ‘thing’ not to have a radiator in the kitchen. I’ve always had one and can’t think of any kitchen I’ve been in that didn’t.

see if you can get a kick board one installed either connector to c/h or go got electric. Sorted

GoinSouth · 15/12/2022 21:53

Having a new kitchen, small radiator was taking up space so we've just had it taken out. Kitchen is small however so will warm up ok when cooking and from other rooms.

abblie · 15/12/2022 21:54

I do

maddening · 15/12/2022 21:56

My parents have a kitchen kitchen (no diner) and that has a radiator- it is a.late 70s house. We have a new build with a kitchen diner and have 1 at the dining end and 1 at the kitchen end.
