Radiator in kitchen

I had an incident yesterday and needed my neighbour's help. He noticed I had a radiator in the kitchen and said it was unusual. I said every house I have lived in has had a radiator in the kitchen. He's saying no one he knows has a radiator in their kitchen.
So AIBU to ask if you have a radiator in your kitchen?

Yes.
There have been rads in the kitchens of the last 3 houses we’ve bought, and the one before that we rented.
DM & siblings all have rads in their kitchens, DF has in his… I can’t think of a single person I know that doesn’t have one tbh.

I’ve just been looking on RM for a house and noticed one property has a plug in oil filled radiator in the kitchen. That has actually put me off looking at it because I know it will be cold and I don’t want to go to the expense and upheaval of adding one to the central heating system.

No radiator but we have an Aga that keeps the kitchen toasty warm when it’s on

Bunchymcbunchface · 15/12/2022 18:41

I have a radiator and a woodburner

GenerallyGreenerGrass · 15/12/2022 18:41

Every house I have lived in has had a radiator in the kitchen, all my family and friend’s houses have also.

IneedanewTV · 15/12/2022 18:43

I don’t. But I wish I did as it’s freezing. Another job for next summer I think.

GrouchyKiwi · 15/12/2022 18:44

Our dining-kitchen does, and our previous house had one in both parts of the d-k.

I want to move our current one and change it to one of those tall ones that goes up the wall.

5foot5 · 15/12/2022 18:46

We used to but when we had our kitchen revamped a few years ago we had the radiator taken out and instead we have this sort of fan heater thing in the kickspace. Not necessarily convinced it is an improvement.

I live in a flat in a converted Victorian house. There's a large kitchen which didn't have a radiator when I moved in. I had one put in because breakfast was unbearable in the winter otherwise!

TeenDivided · 15/12/2022 18:47

Yes, a small one which is normally off. House built 1996.

spookymarmite · 15/12/2022 18:48

I do, it was there when we bought the house.

AwfulSomething · 15/12/2022 18:49

I don’t, and no need for one. Can’t remember about previous homes, not really one to loiter in a kitchen

ApolloandDaphne · 15/12/2022 18:50

I have two in the kitchen in this house. All my previous houses have had a radiator in the kitchen. I don't know anyone who doesn't.

closingscore · 15/12/2022 18:51

Yes I have...as has my dd in hers. Why wouldn't you? I suppose some v modern kitchens would have underfloor heating but mine is 15 yrs old.

AlexandraJJ · 15/12/2022 18:53

I have too and always have

Iwantmyoldnameback · 15/12/2022 18:59

Surely kitchen size comes into it? I have a rad but the other end to the cooker.

Anjo2011 · 15/12/2022 19:02

Double radiator in mine. Would be freezing without it.

JennyForeigner · 15/12/2022 19:04

We have a tiny radiator in a sort of boot room. Our kitchen is absolutely freezing. We've just agreed to lose a unit and get a decent one in there.

TheWernethWife · 15/12/2022 19:05

We have one in the kitchen, our kitties have their cushion in front of it.

SusanPerbCallMeSue · 15/12/2022 19:18

No. And it's bloody freezing.

Lots on this thread don’t.

user53852098 · 15/12/2022 19:33

We have but it's quite small, up one end of a long galley kitchen so when it is very cold I use an oil filled radiator at the other end if I am in there for long

comeundone · 15/12/2022 19:34

We replaced one with a plinth heater. Only needed quite occasionally but works well

Abcdefu · 15/12/2022 19:35

fishonabicycle · 15/12/2022 19:36

Everywhere I've lived has had a radiator in the kitchen.

Yes, radiator in kitchen here too.

My parent's house have a radiator in their loo. It is literally just the loo in there, not even a sink. I really don't see the point in that!

Our downstairs loo has a small radiator in it - the amount of tine DS spends in there on his phone (avoiding homework) he needs it (radiator was here when we bought house - built late 1990s I think).

We also have a radiator in kitchen - again here when we moved in - DH who does most of main cooking refuses to have it on .
