Hey all, I am due to give birth to a little girl early next year, my husbands first child and we are super excited. We have already chosen to name her Lauren, which we both love. My DH's sister keeps saying Lauren is a chavy name and calling her Lozza. AIBU that this is really annoying me. I find it very rude, not normally someone who cares what other people think but this has really got to me!

Lauren is a lovely and traditional name. Ignore her, she’s very rude. Do be prepared for her friends to shorter it to loz though when she’s a teen.

panko · 14/12/2022 20:18

Shes so rude.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 14/12/2022 20:20

This is exactly why you wait until the baby is born before revealing the name.

TreeOfCats · 14/12/2022 20:21

My name is Lauren, I have never been called Lozza in my life! I didn't really get called Loz either (I am late 20s now)

I've never really thought about my name, but I don't think it's chavvy at all and that has never been commented before!

newrubylane · 14/12/2022 20:21

As someone named Lauren, I can promise you I've never had anyone suggest or give any hint that they thought my name is chavvy.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 14/12/2022 20:21

It's a lovely name, and yes, don't tell people in advance! Just say you haven't decided for definite.

AnneLovesGilbert · 14/12/2022 20:22

Never tell people the name…. This is why. Even if you don’t some people will be dicks about it after but it makes them look even worse when it’s attached to a baby that’s been born.

Lauren is classic and lovely. Your sister is a weirdo.

ofwarren · 14/12/2022 20:23

It's a lovely name!
I've only heard Lauras get called Lozza.

FurAndFeathers · 14/12/2022 20:25

Your DH needs to tell his sister that she’s being hurtful and rude about her future niece.

Lauren is timeless and beautiful

lbnblbnb · 14/12/2022 20:25

I teach a few Laurens and don't hear it being shortened to Loz or Lozza. I wouldn't give it another thought. SIL sounds socially inept.

You can't control what friends etc might shorten names to, or how perceptions of names might change. A friend was named Tracey; apparently it was a rare name and there was a stylish American film star named Tracey. But then perceptions change again.

It is a great name and most importantly you like it.

Ayeaken · 14/12/2022 20:26

Lauren is FAR from chavvy!

YANBU to be annoyed.

BlueSuffragette · 14/12/2022 20:26

Nice name that works for baby, child and adult stages of life. Maybe play along and say you've had a rethink and suggest names you know she'd hate even more. Then when baby is born Lauren will be a relief.

Mrsfussypants1 · 14/12/2022 20:27

The only "Lozza" I know is a male, Lawrence (40). I know 3 Lauren's who range from late 20s to early 30s, all.adult dds friends, never once heard them referred to as Lozza. Its more of a male nickname? I'd go with it if you like it and don't let your sisters opinion get to you. I'd never comment on any close families baby name choices if I didn't like them, it's not my baby to name. Unless you named baby Satan, then I'd have a word.

ThatshallotBaby · 14/12/2022 20:28

I really like Lauren. It’s a lovely name to say. Try and ignore your sil, it’s nothing to do with her.

Tundrawave · 14/12/2022 20:29

newrubylane · 14/12/2022 20:21

As someone named Lauren, I can promise you I've never had anyone suggest or give any hint that they thought my name is chavvy.

Well they usually wouldn’t to your face…

velvetstars · 14/12/2022 20:29

Lauren is a lovely name, never heard it shortened to Lozza.

If she says it's again have a response ready. "Did you mean to be so rude, you've said this multiple times now and I don't want to have this discussion with you again."

I wouldn't tolerate any claims that you're over reacting or have upset her in anyway either if she tries the waterworks when you stand up to her. "SIL was being rude, so I asked her to stop. It's no big issue and is all resolved now" then change the subject.

Mrsfussypants1 · 14/12/2022 20:31

Oh and only one of dds lauren friends goes by a shortened nickname of Ren.

Adultchildofelderlyparents · 14/12/2022 20:31

Lauren is a beautiful name! It makes me think of Lauren Bacall so I associate the name with classic Hollywood glamour.
Your SIL is rude and needs to keep her mardy opinions to herself.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 14/12/2022 20:31

It’s lovely and even though there’s quite a lot of 20-30s ages people called it I think you’d be very hard pressed to find a baby Lauren so I think you’re picking a lovely an under used name

whats her name ?if she’s called Charlotte or Caitlin When she says Lozza just say wheyy Chazza or just like auntie Cazza ! She’ll hate it 🤣🤣

Happiedays · 14/12/2022 20:32

I haven’t heard of a baby Lauren in a long time and so I think it’s lovely! There were quite a few Lauren’s at school when I was growing up but they either went buy Lauren or Ren… cannot remember a single one going as Lozza

MerryMarigold · 14/12/2022 20:32

I like the name. I only know one and she is called 'Law' for short.

WhatTheFlap · 14/12/2022 20:32

Your SIL sounds like a twat.

I know quite a few Lauren’s and none of them have ever been known as Lozza, what a weird thing for her to say.

Jubaju · 14/12/2022 20:32

is she saying it’s chavvy because of that Catherine tate sketch?

pelargoniums · 14/12/2022 20:32

Start calling her Auntie Cunt.

LulooLemon · 14/12/2022 20:33

It's a lovely name. Reminds me of Lauren Bacall
