Hey all, I am due to give birth to a little girl early next year, my husbands first child and we are super excited. We have already chosen to name her Lauren, which we both love. My DH's sister keeps saying Lauren is a chavy name and calling her Lozza. AIBU that this is really annoying me. I find it very rude, not normally someone who cares what other people think but this has really got to me!

IsabelaYourBoyfriendsHere · 14/12/2022 20:33

Congratulations!! I would totally ignore her if I were you, Lauren is a lovely name. 🙂

Coxspurplepippin · 14/12/2022 20:33

Lauren is a great name. Your DH needs to tell his sister to wind her neck in.

Lauren Bacall - that well known chav..........

MerryMarigold · 14/12/2022 20:33

whats her name ?if she’s called Charlotte or Caitlin When she says Lozza just say wheyy Chazza or just like auntie Cazza ! She’ll hate it
Oooh yeah, tell us her name and we can think of a really annoying nickname which you can start using.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 14/12/2022 20:34

I’m very funny about names, or what passes for them nowadays. Lauren is lovely. I prefer it to Laura.

AnyFucker · 14/12/2022 20:34

Lauren is a lovely name

Givemethestrength · 14/12/2022 20:35

Another Lauren here, never had anyone say anything negative about my name, i think it's a fairly neutral/common name. I have been nicknamed loz by friends and family since I was 10 or so and my colleague calls me lozza when he's on the wind up but not seriously 🙄

Nordix · 14/12/2022 20:36

Your SIL is just a cow. She would do this about any name you shared with her.

SerenaTee · 14/12/2022 20:37

Have never seen a name thread on here where the consensus is the name is lovely! I agree by the way, it’s a great name.

Flowersflowers121 · 14/12/2022 20:38

Lovely name :) ignore the haters

Lauralozzle · 14/12/2022 20:39

I’m a Laura, not a Lauren. Was a ‘Loz’ to my friends as a teen, still a Loz to some close friends. I’m Laura to my parents/husbands family/everyone else.

Lauren is in no way a chavvy name. Never heard of a Lauren being called Lozza although some people who knew my nickname often thought I was a Lauren.

If you are happy with Lauren, then don’t give a toss about what other people think.

Lauren is a lovely name

HRTQueen · 14/12/2022 20:40

Lauren is a lovely name I thought Laurie was short for Lauren

whatever name you pick someone will say something horrible about it

ZellyFitzgerald · 14/12/2022 20:40

Lauren Bacall? Not chavvy in the slightest.

Your DH sister is a rude idiot.

Lauren is a beautiful name.

ladygindiva · 14/12/2022 20:41

I think Lauren is a lovely name.

FuckKnowsMate · 14/12/2022 20:41

I’m a Lauren and do get Loz or an exaggerated Lozzaaaaaaa in jest. I don’t mind it though. It’s a lovely name if I do say so myself 😂

martinisforeveryone · 14/12/2022 20:42

Nordix · 14/12/2022 20:36

Sounds about right to be honest.

Congratulations @Rainbowbub22 Lauren is a lovely name.

You do need to be aware that schoolfriends will always have charge of nicknames during those years, unless your child goes with a nickname already, but SIL is out of order. One of my DDs has a beautiful name which had a very undesirable nickname at school. She still has the same friends now, but they call her by her full name these days.

OoooohMatron · 14/12/2022 20:42

Lovely name, not chavvy at all. Your SIL is a bellend though.

she77 · 14/12/2022 20:42

Lauren is a lovely name. Nothing remotely chavvy about it at all.

StateOfTheUterus · 14/12/2022 20:46

I have a DD6 called Lauren. Have been told it’s a bit of an 80’s name but I don’t care. It’s beautiful and so is she. We do call her Lozza sometimes though!

AutumnColour89 · 14/12/2022 20:47

It's a lovely name OP. It goes against the grain of the majority of other comments but I do know 2 Laurens at work, both nicknamed Loz/Lozza by colleageus, but it maybe be a regional thing as they are both from Liverpool.

I have a classic name (think Beatrice, Cecily, Helen, Gwendolyn - not one of these) and my oldest friend male started calling me a very common nickname derived from my name as kids. The arse still sometimes does.

Strokethefurrywall · 14/12/2022 20:55

I love Lauren, it's a gorgeous name!!

DarkKarmaIlama · 14/12/2022 20:59

I have a friend called Lauren and a cousin. My cousin does get called Lozza and she suits it, she’s a real Jack the lad. My friend doesn’t get called Lozza mind.

Gerwurtztraminer · 14/12/2022 21:02
  1. Lovely name (but pp's are right, this is the reason to not tell people the name until after the birth)

  2. SiL is a horrible cow., probably only doing it because she wants to get under your skin. (What has your DH done about it BTW? It's his bloody sister so his to deal with)

  3. Having said that, tell her off in no uncertain terms. Definitely start calling her a horrible nickname of her own name. Or tell her she's a chav for being so rude.

  4. Never come across Loz/Lozza as a nickname for Lauren or variations of it and there are a few Laurel/Laura/Lauren/Lorna's in my extended family

  5. Nicknames or shortenings only 'stick ' long term if person allows it by answering to the nickname and not correcting people every single time it's used (or when small, parents on child's behalf). So if she keeps it up when baby arrives, make a BIG deal of correcting her every time she does it.

YellowTreeHouse · 14/12/2022 21:04

Yes, it’s very rude. But this is exactly why you should never tell anyone the baby’s name before they’re born.

Whitewolf2 · 14/12/2022 21:04

There’s quite a few Lauren’s from Towie which might be what she’s thinking of, but I think it’s just a coincidence, I don’t think of it as a chavvy name, it’s no Mercedes!
