Would I be unreasonable to call his work?

mindisdoingovertime · 14/12/2022 10:22

So the hubby left early this morning for work. He drives around all day attending different work calls.

It is very, very icey and the weather was awful when he left at 5am this morning!

Ive tried calling him but both his work phone and normal phone is unavailable. Ive also got one tick on WhatsApp.

He sometimes works in areas of no signal but this is very rare (think once or twice over the last year).

Would I be unreasonable to contact his work and ask them to trace his works van or is this crazy woman territory? I'm so worried, ive been crying all morning, this is not like him at all. Ive checked all the local traffic reports and there was a crash this morning close to where we live and would fit his route at the right time but it says no injuries.

What would you do? Shall I wait a bit and keep trying to ring him?

4 pages in and no one has suggest the OP's fella is having an affair.

I'm impressed.

Lol

Hope it’s nothing OP though why do you ring each other so much when someone supposed to be working?

Presumably if the OP works from home both of them are supposed to be working.

JustFrustrated · 14/12/2022 14:14

.....so I'm guessing she heard from him and all was well.

Frazzled2207 · 14/12/2022 14:25

hope this is all resolved op? I wouldn't have called his work when you posted but probably would have done by now.

Cherryblossoms85 · 14/12/2022 14:25

Just a friendly reminder to everyone though, make sure you have emergency contact info updated on your phones! I was called by a passer-by who happened to be police, because my relative in question had the foresight to store the number correctly, so that it can be accessed without the PIN. Otherwise I would have had no idea she was in an ambulance and I wouldn't have been able to call her work and let them know. (of course in reality what you do when a stranger tells you your relative is unconscious in the street is laugh and ask who put them up to this. Woops, sorry good Samaritan! 😬)

Maybe because they love each other and enjoy talking throughout the day?! It’s a good thing id say.

How is it a good thing? Sounds obsessive to me but each to thier own.

OP i hope you've heard from him by now.

Sundayvibes · 14/12/2022 14:41

Must be having an affair. 😉

I feel that’s what’s wrong with a lot of relationships. Worrying about being obsessive because you want to be around or talk to your partner all the time. Nothing wrong with that, they are your partner, I love talking to mine. Well it’s my opinion but I get it isn’t everyone’s

I8toys · 14/12/2022 14:43

I'm just trying to get my head around the every hour thing. Personally wouldn't contact work. Hope you've heard from him.

mindisdoingovertime · 14/12/2022 10:39

He works alone driving around and I work from home so we like to chat all day. No don't suffer from anxiety, if you've had a regular routine for years you know if something is up, I just hope he's ok.

Your employers are paying for your time. Do they like you to chat all day?

AreOttersJustWetCats · 14/12/2022 14:43

mindisdoingovertime · 14/12/2022 10:33

We ring each other at least every hour through the work day and have done for years. Both phones are not contactable. This is the first time this has happened in the 4 years he has worked there.

Holy shit. That is some next level neediness.

If something had happened you would have heard.

AreOttersJustWetCats · 14/12/2022 14:46

Those who think it's normal to do that - what do you do when they have a night out with their mates? Or go to any forn of social / hobby event without you? Do you call them every hour then too?

Or maybe they just aren't allowed to go out alone because "you enjoy their company so much".

kingtamponthefurred · 14/12/2022 14:48

Just go and do something else for a bit.

That's a useful tip but emergency services can quite easily trace next of kin without a person's phone. Police have access to all databases including birth, marriage certificates, the DVLA and car insurance policies, place of work, NHS etc

People weren't left in the dark before smart phones were invented in the 2000s.

Pettv · 14/12/2022 14:52

I'd call his work for sure. People are weird OP saying you're being over anxious. I'd feel the exact same.
I'm sure it's something simple but at least they might be able to put your mind at ease x

TwoRockSalmonAndAHaporthOfChips · 14/12/2022 14:57

Ice plays havoc with mobile phone masts. He’s probably just out of range, and that’s most likely the explanation for not being able to reach him if neither his work nor personal mobiles have signal.

Speaking hourly is a lot, and unusual, though. DH and I both WFH, with only three feet of landing and two doors between us, and I still speak to him less often than you do your husband. We both have jobs that require concentration and are pressured so we just wouldn’t have time to keep stopping for chats.

Bad news travels fast, OP, and you would soon hear if something untoward had happened.

Yeah but when you both are working it’s not appropriate or good conduct.

In designated breaks or if there is an emergency - absolutely fine.

When you should be doing your job in which you are paid to do - wrong.

I like talking to mine too but constantly throughout the day would be a bit much!

Wow every hour is alot. I have one quick chat in a work day or sometimes nothing! 😅 If its really not normal to hear from him all day, I would call his workplace to put your mind at rest.

caramellattelove · 14/12/2022 15:08

So does for those that break for a cigarette or a coffee break or a chat with a colleague or a number 2. I take you don’t do any of those during your working hours

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 14/12/2022 15:11

Hope he is Ok OP. I would be just as worried as you, I get my DP to message me when he gets to work every day as the route is notorious for crashes, let alone when the weather is crap

Well done 50% of posters on here for being a shit to someone who's anxious and making it unlikely that she'll come back...

But posters shouldn’t add to her MH issues/anxiety telling her what she wants to hear.

it’s absolutely not normal to worry after 5 hours or to speak to your partner every hour.

her behaviour is irrational and knowing this will help her in the long run.

WisherWood · 14/12/2022 15:21

Generally employers are fine with people taking short breaks, especially toilet breaks. (Amazon warehouse aside). Having a quick chat with a colleague is also fine and indeed often necessary to aid good working relationships. All of these are very different from contacting someone outside of work hourly. I mean if your performance isn't affected by that, fine. But in that case I'd question the nature of the job.

It is miserable being as anxious as the OP was this morning. Fingers crossed it was just poor phone signal and all's well and good.
